I bought a new 2020 mustang with a rousch blower from a dealer who sold it to me claiming 700 hp. I put the car on my dynojet dyno that ive had for 17 years and couldn't believe it made 662 rhp with 200 miles. I posted the videos on my channel. Then i figured it was a phase 2 kit that the dealer didn't know they installed. Thanks for the tip on the fan to kick on. I was trying to figure that out. I enjoyed your videos!!
Awesome glad it helped! If that fan trick does not work you will need an updated flash from your dealer. Not sure how long they have had that in the calibrations I think it is a newer feature.
I have the other brand Gen 5 and would go with a Roush..I'm in the Pacific Northwest and don't have any support that I'm aware of. Having that factory supoorted warranty and those torque curves would get me there. Good video..
thereissomecoolstuff How is the power delivery of the "other brand" gen 5? Is it too soft down low for you, or would you go with the Roush simply for the warranty? Just curious, since I don't own either, but I know both brands are well respected, and the IAT's on the Gen 5 are supposed to be very good.
See you guys Thursday. For the LT install on my RS3, maybe we can see 680.. already has the phase 2 kit on it.. I know all cars are different so can't wait to find out..
You compare rWtq between the two kits. Just a fair note to that fact. Stage 2 Whipple runs at 10.5 psi while the Roush Phase 2 is at 12 psi. More boost equals more torque!
Correct actually I am comparing two kits that have a drivetrain warranty and are considered 50 state kits. Thanks for the comment! Yes more boost equals more sweet sweet torque! Gotta love them.
Fantastic to see this review. I have a 2018 Roush Jackhammer phase 1. Does this stop things like the heat soak I hear. What are the base numbers look like to the new phase 2 kit. And can you just put the new inter cooler with out the phase 2 tune load in. As I have a 5yr 60,000 mile Engine & trans warranty. Will this work on 91 Octane or just 93... Love your work and Video's.
Brian yes you can give Roush a call to get the updated heat exchanger. Do it. Also they might even have a new calibration for you. Keep the car up to date you will love it. Honestly I would jump right into the phase 2 at the same time. We have the phase 2 upgrades if that is the way you want to go. Link in the video description. THANKS for watching.
The heat soak comes from the fact the Roush chose to keep that particular design where the intercooler sits on the bottom of the blower and on the 18 and up cars that meant having to reduce the size of the intercooler to fit because of the valley being crowded with all the DI stuff and extra knock sensors. Whipple flipped theirs and Edlebrock as well putting the intercooler on-top. Them IAT2 temps of 125 with a big fan blowing like that are horrible in my opinion. Think about what they will be on a hot 90+ degree day....
Love the videos!!! The 3 year 36K warranty? Does that start from 0 miles on the car or from when you install the kit? My 2019 GT currently has 27K miles will I get 36K more miles of warranty or just until the odometer rolls 36K and how would this effect my 5 year 100K mile warranty I bought with the car?
The Roush warranty is for your drivetrain. That means you still have your other warranty for non drivetrain items. It starts from when the car was first sold off the dealership lot when new... not from when you install it. So no you don't start at your 27,000 miles.... start from however much was on it when purchased new so 0 or 20 or whatever it had...
Brent, how did fueling look with the supplied injectors and no boost a pump? Did the DI/47’s keep up? I assume u logged it, does it look to be on the edge (RWHP) without a BAP?
Nice car and nice performance...My GT350 is in your shop this week...LTH, CAI, Flex Tune and suspension upgrades...sure would like boost...Have you had good experience with vortech? I don't see many of those builds on your channel....or is Whipple your favorite due to low end torque? Do you guys ever turbo? Hellion?
Hi Don your 350 is awesome. As far as a GT350 goes yes Whipple is the most popular due to the fact there are very few choices for a 350. Many companies do not make a kit for it including Roush. I have used everything as far as brands of superchargers on different applications. I have owned pretty much every brand supercharger on many of my cars in my life. Most all have there place depending on what somebody wants to do with the car. If you want less low end torque down low then you would go with something like a Vortech as the boost comes in slower than say a Whipple on a GT350. Nothing wrong with either kit it just depends what you are after. THANKS for the comment. Also to answer your question I am a low end torque type of guy so that is why I like the TVS/Twin Screw kits on my drivers. I run a Roush on my truck also it really helps the low end on the F150.
@@BrenspeedEngineering Thanks picking mine up tomorrow and Whipple will be in the near future....Talk soon...Please tell George thanks so much. You guys have a great operation. Have a nice wekend!
What is the difference between the phase 1 and phase 2 of the roush kit? Is it literally just the bigger heat exchanger and more aggressive tune for phase 2 or does phase 2 also have a slightly smaller pulley for a smidge more boost?
As of today if you purchase a phase 1 you get the larger heat exchanger so now the only difference is just the tune. Back in the day only the phase 2 had the larger heat exchanger but now everybody gets it. Same pulley just hotter way more advanced tune.
How do we turn off that fan feature? Mine does it every time I turn off the car, even in the winter it will run sometimes which is not what I personally want. Nice to know it is a feature though lol I though something was wrong with it.
@@BrenspeedEngineering do you think this Phase 2 upgrade is as good as getting the car custom tuned?I have a 19 Roush Stage 3 and debating which route to go. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thats just because of getting into the throttle slower to make sure max traction is happening. A lot of times on this kit you just cant go instant wide open throttle at say 2500 as it may spin a little so by getting into the throttle slower you are making sure the tires are getting max traction. What you are seeing is just not being at wide open throttle instantly.
I have a 2019 with American racing headers, x pipe and flowmaster outlaws. Do you think this supercharger will also add to the quality of the sound of the car besides the performance on top of it?
Hello Brent. My 2020 Mustang GT 6 speed ready has a Roush Supercharge Stage 2 but still I don't feel the low end torque than my ex Challenger Scat Pack 6.4 had. How can I improve low end torque. Thanks for always answer our questions.
I run Stainless Power long tubes on mine and it helps low end. I run the Roush tune. Many clients do also. Here is a link to them we have them in stock. www.brenspeed.com/sm15hcat.html
Hello Brent with the intercooler on the bottom of the supercharger in the Roush and they are new LTR are the it temperatures roughly the same as the Whipple now
Also, bone stock, the speed limiter is 156. Does this mean that the top end for this stage II with Ford Performance tune limits top end below stock numbers? Thanks, Red
The Roush cal does not lower your speed limiter. In lower gears you will have RPM like normal. But once you hit the speed limiter in high gear the RPM will stop. They do not make lower than stock at high rpm.
Warranty clarification - as far as I know, the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty only covers defects in Roush materials and workmanship. It does not apply to any OEM components such as oil pump gears or crank sprockets or pistons and rods etc. Does anyone know anything different ?
It is for the drivetrain of the car not just the supercharger. So basically it is for 3 years 36k from when the car was new not from when you install the supercharger. It has to be installed by a Ford dealer or somebody like us that is authorized by them which we are. THANKS
Another question Brent. How much important is the exhaust for get maximum power from the Roush Supercharger. Any experience between 2.5" and 3.0" catback? or X pipe and H pipe? Thanks for yours videos.
X vs H, inches, not really a big deal. Increasing your exhaust diameter from a catback will give you a sweet sound but not really any sort of power gain. Basically none of those create any sort of huge measurable power difference. Mostly just a sound preference.
@@BrenspeedEngineering do long tube headers help at all? I have a phase 2 on my 2018 mustang gt and I’m checking to see if some 2” headers will help the mustang and going on e85 with meth injection
No E85 on this 50 state kit. The fuel pump and injectors would not support the requirements of E85. The Roush kit includes a flash card that you just use a lap top to load the tune on the car. No physical tune device included.
I have this kit on a 2020 GT Premiun and it is throwing Powertrain Fault and stored code and BCM fault and stored code . I understand the torque is calibrated to low from Roush any Ideas??
I have never seen that or ran into it and not only do I run this kit on my own car but we install them all the time. I would say do two things. 1. Make sure everything is installed correctly and 2. get the most updated calibration loaded on the car. That way you know the PCM has the flash that everybody else has been running. Maybe you have some old flash, or maybe it did not load on correctly, but you should not get those codes. So check every aspect of install and get the newest calibration. You should be good to go.
All good mods. I like IRS upgrades but it is not required. An upgraded one piece driveshaft not only makes it quicker but reduces the chance of breaking the stock 2 piece one if you drive hard on sticky tires.
I wish the phase 2 was out and they would have let my local dealer install it when I bought my 19.... Very good deal how they supported and updated their customers!!! Love the 3 min cool down option too.... Would be what 640 wheel on an A10? Did I hear you right that the new phase 1s come with the upgraded HE now? Or phase 2 only?
@@BrenspeedEngineering thanks man....a problem I have with my tune is enleanment unless the dyno plug is removed...( PCM commands all the way to stoich at full boost maybe by end of 1/4, on 4th engine now ). Does the phase 2 calibration keep it from using "enleanment" for traction control even with advancetrac off? Thanks so much for representing this supercharger and your videos....
@@BrenspeedEngineering car is my daily. I usually do some street pulls here and there and some canyon carving. Probably would do some pulls at the drag strip but very rarely. If anything I’d definitely upgrade clutch/flywheel and shifter.
@@redmcguire1824 ended up totaling my mustang. Was doing mustang things and lost control of the car. I want to say I’ve grown from it and once the s650 comes out I plan on getting one.
I have a 19 Roush Stage 3 10R80 with the Phase 1. In your professional opinion is the Phase 2 upgrade make enough of a difference to do the upgrade and cut my 5/60000 Powertrain Warranty down to 3/36000? I would hate to give up 2 years of warranty for negligible gains/improvement.
My opinion is yes do the upgrade. I love it and they drive great and they wouldn't offer a free warranty if the engineers felt it was dangerous. THANKS for the question!
Do you know the width or thickness of the new phase 2 heat exchanger? And, the thickness of the phase 1 heat exchanger? My 2019 was modified by Roush in Sept.2019 & it - has the fan option The dealer paperwork says 710hp Now, I’m curious - is it 710hp or 750hp ??
I had a phase 1 kit installed in January and it already had the thicker LTR. The thickness is about 1.5" versus an inch or slightly less for the older. Also look at the front-bottom-passenger side of the LTR.....there will be a brass allen key screw that you can't miss it. I am waiting to get teh newer tune till I am outta California and can actually get 93.
@@andrewallen6747 thanks for your reply. I measured the width of the tank by sticking a tape measure thru the grill. The tanks on each side are 2 inches wide. That, of course, is wider than the core. So, that verifies what you say. Thanks again👍 I'm on 93 octane Oh, and I just checked and the brass is very visible😲~~😄 The Roush Tech that did my car is Kevin Rahn and I've seen his name on the tags of Roush Builds from past & present. And, even a picture of him holding/installing a supercharger on the Internet. I wonder if he keeps notes on all the builds he has done. Hmmm, what tune did he put in the 2019 Magnetic Matallic Mustang GT in September of 2019??
They are rated flywheel. You wont make rear wheel horsepower what the flywheel is advertised at. Also the Roush tune hits the speed limiter when you dyno in the correct gear so you are not seeing max rwhp on the dyno because as it is still climbing it normally shuts off because you are at the max of the speed limiter (not rev limiter, vehicle speed limiter).
@@BrenspeedEngineering Good day Brent here was my results on my 2019 mustang gt premium 10 speed auto. 5th gear pull 606.2 (HP) @ 6600 rpm max torque 5.38.5 rpm. 6th gear 583.0 hp @ 6150 rpm, max T 4150 rpm. 7th gear 565.0 hp @ 6400 rmp max T 568.9 @ 4050 rpm... They told me rev limiter kept shuting it down so Vehicle limiter is the problem. If helps has both factory/Roush tune. Not really getting any boost. Is there something I could do to hit better #'s....Thank you Tony
Do you know how much a Ford Dealer would charge to install this? Edit: Besides a performance clutch, flywheel, and driveshaft are there any other parts that need to be replaced in order to handle that much hp ex. Transmission, differential, or axels?
My dealer charges $2000 for installation. Performance shops typically charge $1200 to $1500 for installation, but you will have an issue getting to keep that warranty.
Not sure as we do not drop pulley sizes on this set up on 93 and on the stock engine & the included injectors. Also it does not come with a fuel pump which you would need to upgrade if you are considering more boost.
Because I believe they thought it was large enough then enough time went by they decided to increase it. You got to give a company props for improving and not just moving on to the next thing. Im glad they increased size to improve performance.
@@primofx2sport in my research I believe the larger LTR started in mid-year of 2019, as mine was done by Roush in September of 2019. I noticed my IATs were always the same as outside ambient temperature. Then, I found out that I have the "turn On fan option" and a bright brass Allen head screw on the right lower passenger side of heat exchanger. Cool🆒 😊 👍
@@primofx2sport open the drivers side door and there will be a build date from Ford sticker and another sticker from Roush, which indicates the month that Roush modified the car.
Custom dyno tune. Forget that conservative Roush tune. Forget the warranty and send it. Custom tune with long tubes will make that over 700 wheel. 100%.
@@BrenspeedEngineering Is this true what they said? Idc about warranty, but obv do not wanna blow anything up at the same time lol. What do the engines safely take assuming you do not beat on it every day?
Yes that kit would be great. 65k miles is nothing anymore. We have installed superchargers on engines with over 100k miles. Here is a link to the kit. We have them in stock www.brenspeed.com/422184.html
That is sort of hard to compare. If you are talking 20 GT500 I really love the trans in that car and of course all the sweet options and built engine it has. Price is about half on this so that makes a difference if you are not looking for the GT500 sweetness.
The mustang gt is around 400 pounds lighter than the 2020 gt500 so I’m sure it’s way faster. Plus you get the better 18-20 headlights than those old 15-17 ones on the new gt500, don’t know why they did that.
Yes it does and as a matter of fact that may have hit a speed limiter not a rev limiter. THANKS for watching! I think they speed limit about 150 ish....
To be clear it is a 3 year 36k drivetrain warranty from Roush from when new. So you can buy a 2 year old car that has under 36k miles and still get the warranty. 1. As long as it is less than 3 years old from new, and 2. it is under 36k miles. Then it expires at 36k miles from new and 3 years from new.
@@BrenspeedEngineering Does that mean it actually voids the last 2 years of the drivetrain warranty? Isn't the factory warranty 5 yrs/60K miles on the drivetrain and then it becomes 3 yrs/36K miles after the supercharger install?
It is 3 year 36k from time of purchase of the car when new. Not from when it was built. So whenever it was originally purchased from a dealership when it was new that is when the 3 year starts...
