I've been renting cars to drive Cleveland to NYC (and back) for years now (482 miles), and the Altima SL is the first vehicle I was able to make the trip on one tank of gas! Actually, about 3/4 of a tank! I was blown away by that alone.
Joe radio screen? You can always upgrade that. I will be upgrading my 2018 Nissan Altima SR radio screen soon to a 9” Pioneer. I love that car and it’s my first.
I've owned a 2014 Altima 2.5SV for just over 3 years and 27,000 miles. Only purchased it because somebody screwed up entering the odometer reading at an auction and corrected it immediately after. Flagged as Odometer Fraud and I got it $5,000 below blue book due to it lol. Figured it would be a decent commuter, ended up loving this thing it's like a Lexus to me compared to my previous base model cars and trucks. You weren't kidding it is pretty peppy for what it is, and the fuel economy still impresses me.
I believe the Altima was Nissan’s top seller for many years before the Rogue took it’s place recently. I personally had three Altima’s in a row. A 2009, a 2013 and a 2015. Never had much of a problem to speak of. Got great gas mileage and many would comment on how comfortable their “Zero Gravity” seats were. I was even hit by a drunk driver and totaled on a freeway in the 2013 Altima and walked away without a scratch! But I would never waste my money on anything but the base model. That’s where this car made most sense to me. Super cheap leases.
I rented a base model Altima back in 2011 and was quite pleased with its comfort and fuel economy... took me all around Kansas City for a weekend trip... can't wait to see and drive the 2019 Altima in person. BTW, the SL is actually the top-tier trim level in terms of features (only option this one doesn't have is the nav system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), the "hierachy" of trims per sea is 2.5 S (base), 2.5 SR (base model with sports package), 2.5 SV (mid-level), 2.5 SL (top-of-the-line I4 powered model), and 3.5 SL (top-of-the-line and only V6-powered model). :)
Hey Vincent! I haven't checked, but are there going to be major updates in the 2019? And yeah, Ben Dunn pointed out my mistake with the trims levels too. I had (wrongly) assume the SR Midnight Edition and the SR Special Edition were higher trim levels, but they're not. Sorry about that! Thanks for pointing out my mistake.
SR is in reality nearer to the SV than the S. S does not include fog lights, sport seating, and possibly power driver's seat. Also, SR includes auto braking. It's much more standard equipment on SR than base models.
Versa is a sub compact sedan. Versa is a compact sedan, Altima is a mid size sedan, maxima is a full size sedan, and the leafs is an electric and doesn’t really go with the sedans
I love the Altimas elephant head steering wheel....lol. The 2.5 Altima SL was one of my choices recently when I was considering buying a used third car for my wife and I. It's a good looking car with decent options and features for the price. Ultimately I bought a used Honda Civic but I still think this Altima would've been a good choice. I just wish Nissan would've included Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in their cars.
J High I agree. Nissan Connect sucks, lack options and apps. It hardly ever work at times. I wish Nissan would do a serious massive update to the app, that would also allow screen mirroring for mobile devices.
2018 Altima does have apple car play and Android auto. This car just doesn't have the passage... Plus Nissan updated the infortainment system to what they use in the maxima
If you're looking for excitement, you really shouldn't be looking at this kind of car to begin with. It's meant to be a regular daily driver that will get you where you need to go. If you want excitement, you need to be looking at sports cars, or at least at a higher price bracket.
Ack, you're right! I assumed the SR Midnight Edition and SR Special Edition were higher trim levels than the SL 3.5. But I guess not? Thanks for pointing this out. I'm straight to really hate all these trim levels...
Probably the Camry, but they're pretty close. I did some light internet research and the consensus is the Altima goes 0 to 60 in 7.8 seconds while the Camry is slightly faster at 7.6 seconds. I'm not sure either of us would be able to tell the difference. I mean, it is .2 seconds.
You missed the key on the key fob on the back of the key fob there's a lever that you can press down with your finger and slide out the hidden key. You can lock your jockey box with it. you can also hold down the unlock button and roll down both front windows and you can also hold down the unlock and lock button at the same time for 3 seconds then your lights will flash three times and you can turn off the horn beep every time you press the lock button. If you want to turn it back on do the same thing but except your horn will honk 1 time and then that means it turned back on..
Is there any difference between the 2017 and 2018 sl ? I'm in the market and I see a 2017 with less miles for a little less. Occasionally I'm reading that there is a difference in "standard options" but the sl isn't considered standard so I wondered if there was any difference
Donavin Roberts yes, I just road tested one and it had absolutely no throttle response at all, it was going but it felt like it was just sitting there, if that makes since and the engine sounded like a cat growling. The rest of the car was cheaply made it only had 30k miles on it and there was already something broken and rattling around inside the dashboard, I had to get out and adjust the mirrors by hand because the switch was broken, and the list goes on.
Donavin Roberts he's a liar. Go to my channel and you can see yhe trottle response. Its not bad at all. I can refer you to some vids on my channel so you can see or even make a new video for you.
I don't think so. I've driven lots of CVTs and enjoyed them. The main complaint I've seen is that they don't last long, but that seems to be going away especially with Toyota's CVTs.
100 Rental Cars i guess it relly depends on how youndrive or if you get a bad apple. I had my 2008 versa cvt for over 200k miles and no cvt replacement and i drove that car super hard. I neutral dropped it 1 time. It smelled like burnt clutch. I'll never do that again but it never broke.
Sorry Kay, I'd love to help, but that would be really hard to do here in the comments. Have you checked out Nissan's site yet? It breaks down the differences pretty clearly.
I just spent 8 days with an identical car during my Florida vacation. While the powertrain makes the most of a weak thrashy 4 cylinder and CVT, the 13-17 Accord CVT does a far better job in terms of performance and fuel economy. Not to mention the build quality of the Accord is far superior to the Altima.
@@patschrodinger4105 It's a mixed bag. Accord typically rates better in long term reliability along with resale values that are higher than those of the Altima. Altima might have a slight edge initially, not necessarily over a lengthy period of ownership.
