2018 Peterbilt 579 Epiq Sleeper Truck - Walkaround - 2017 NACV Show Atlanta 

We just ordered 5 of the new 2018 Western Star 5700 XE. With the 82 inch sleeper. Yes it's no problem getting snowed in here in North Dakota. Montana. And I want our grain haulers to be as comfortable as can be.

I don’t have a problem with the automatics because of the areas I do go like through dallas and Austin and Houston and the automatics come in handy because of all the traffic and people cutting you off

I have one of these - I rather like the way it drives. For the most part I like the Paccar MX13 engine which is quiet and smooth. Fuel economy is decent - however this comes at a price of it being somewhat gutless. I am no fan of the 10 speed transmission. IMO it should be a 12 or 13 speed. 9th and 10th are direct/over drive so the difference in engine rpm between 8th and 9th is huge - making it a real chore to pull a hill of really any size / length. Virtually everyone I know who drives one of these leaves the transmission in Manual shift mode - especially when in traffic or moving around a lot with a load etc. The reason is the stupid Automatic mode will shift the gears at the absolute wrong time. When you are starting off - loaded or unloaded - the dam thing will nearly always start in 1 or 2 for about 2 seconds then try to figure out what gear it needs to be in - while you come to a stop - then shift to the next gear. It is so unbelievably annoying, and will leave you stuck in the middle of an intersection if you are not watching it. So Manual mode it is. In summary - if you drive on flat roads - at 70 mph this truck will get 8.5 - 9.0 mpg. Throw in some hills and you are looking at about 8.0 mpg. over 130k miles - my average is 8.3 and I drive 70 on the interstate with nominal load of 43k in a reefer - which puts the GVW at about 78k.

Nice looking truck, nice colour too. Although those exposed rivets on the sleeper cabin look out of date, its not a peterbilt 351

Love the exterior but not the interior, it's too much. Love the simplicity of the hood and fenders just kind of classic but not done before.

Oh Hell no, they're corrupting that thing with Freightliner styling!!! Put the gear selector back down between the drink holders, or put a manual in it, but don't make these things even more so like my Suburban!!! And for God sakes, show the 82" Ulti-built sleeper, not the shorter fleet build. After seeing this, I think I'll just keep my 2016 instead of getting a new one!!!

Everything is Ok. But, why paccar engine? This engine fails a lot. Why not cummins or Detroit diesel, even Cat are better engines.
