Hey all! We realize this is a review on the “old” 2018 model and a new one is already out, but since we hadn’t posted a review on a Porsche Macan yet, we figured we’d just do a video on this 2018 model and hopefully get our hands on the refreshed 2019 model later so we can reference this for that video. Also, some of you probably noticed that the video on the Model 3 update was taken down, we will plan to repost it at another time but we hopped on a plane to Seattle early this morning for a few days and plan to film a TON of content to be posted later. Be sure to follow us on Instagram (redline_reviews) and Facebook (liketheredline) for a sneak peak at all the cars we will be filming while in Seattle! Thanks for watching guys!
I’ve had the chance to drive a 2018 Macan with the same engine and I thought the same.. nothing special and won’t give you that Porsche feeling that you would expect. It’s a Q5 with Porsche badge
I love how you take every opportunity to review a car. If you ever end up near a Power Wheels, do a review on that and let us know how the door slam sounds and if the glove compartment is damped and/or lined with felt!
It absolutely is. The quality of the interior is part of what makes the base Macan so successful. Sure you can jazz it up with alcantara in the GTS/Turbo along with carbon fiber pieces, etc. Long story short, pushing the A/C button on a Porsche and then pushing it on anything else just doesn’t feel like quality. This includes other vehicles in its class.
@@fishtherapy100 I've heard excuse the pun. A lot better sounding cars with the same displacement. Like the Hyundai Veloster. You need to work on you sarcasm too.
I'm a huge fan of your channel and reviews, but I have to say... were you in a bad mood that day when you shot this? Your videos are generally really well-balanced, but the negativity towards the Macan noticeably stood out (down to the hood cover / headlamp design, as well as the sound of the door closing - which I wouldn't have thought would sound any worse than a Q5); was just a bit shocking and unexpected. In addition to the new Macan, hope you can review the redesigned Cayenne as well (curious for likewise any similarities between that and the Q7). Keep up the great work with your channel, Sofyan!
Watching this makes me continue to be happy with my decision buying the 2019 RDX with tech for fraction of the price. Better materials throughout, keyless entry, and good power all standard.
@@clearcut6818 yep you got it spend all my time driving and having fun with a great Japanese luxury family and sport SUV never in the shop under repairs.
Acura makes some of the ugliest interiors in the industry and they aren’t using superior materials to Porsche. Also, I’d take Porsche drivetrain over Acura any day - especially when it comes to transmissions. No contest.
@@theylive2749 you just won dumbest comment of the year. Acura has one of the best most engaging transmissions in the automotive industry with their 10 speed. Also their interiors especially for the money are quite simply put, beautiful.
I have taken one for a test drive, and wow! The driving experience is amazing.Don't look at the comments in the chat about price, only cheapskate complain about price. I am planning to buy this in the future.
aayan goverski We definitely did mention the smaller trunk space and rear seat, button heavy center stack (but the buttons don’t feel cheap to us), and halogen fog lights. Our criticism of that and just bi-xenon headlights were addressed when we mentioned how Porsche makes you pay extra for everything, when some things should be standard for the money.
Also this ‘sport edition’ is kinda silly because why would anyone want to add all these performance options w the lousy base engine + smaller brakes. At this price point you are almost at the GTS base price w superior driving dynamics and engine sound
I see alot of people bashing this car. The Macan to buy is either the Macan S or GTS. A low mileage (20k or less) ranges from 35k to 50k. The base Macan in the video was offered at the dealerships 2k to 4k miles for 40k or less. Porshce dealerships use these as their loaner cars. If you think 35k to 50k is too much you probably would never own a Porsche. Go buy a Kia or Ford Escape.
Jmoneypoprocks there is a huge amount of divergence of option from the USA and Europe. Americans are more abusive and loathing of European brands. Bear in mind, this is just a random camp dude that owns a mid-range Porsche and this is a base model loaner. Maybe he should stick to reviewing make-up. A notable absence of testosterone and WAY WAY too much soy and lube. As such it’s not loaded with creature comforts. This is more of a example of a gay bitching competition rather than a car review. He is far from a professional reviewer. To the haters: Porsche is not a cheap car. It’s not supposed to be. That’s how they maintain the brand. all Porsche’s are fantastic cars...for those that can afford them. The Macan GTS or the Turbo Macan are beasts and the best Small SVU’s by far.
Great review! Really wish you got a chance to drive the GTS because it’s far more a Porsche than the base model. Just wanted to mention that the Macan S and GTS have twin turbo engines in this generation, looks like going forward the Macan S has a single turbo.
D H We had to take it down due to an issue that went unnoticed during editing. We’re on our way to Seattle now for another event and will plan to post the video back up later. Stay tuned!
It's better to get these German vehicles new and only for five years. After that, they will become a headache. That is why a lot of people lease these from new. The Japanese competition is better if you are searching for a used vehicle.
yes Porsche is crazy about options, that's why u should never purchase a "base" model Porsche. I mean if u only have 65k budget, don't even consider a Porsche, because a bmw/audi/benz will be a better choice, I think 65k u can get a sq5. people say the interior is not premium enough, yes its not, but I love thatbutton cluster, sadly they replaced it with the new one, but I still like it, it looks more high-end. if you have over 80k budget, maybe consider the macan s or gts, u can get a decently equipped one with ur personalization. btw any chance for reviewing a new Porsche cayenne turbo coupe? looking forward to that cuz its a possible replacement for my x6m right now, my local dealer doesn't have it.
We’re it not for the maintenance costs this would be mine. Since I purchased my cars and keep them for as long as I still like them I wouldn’t have the luxury of walking away from it after the free maintenance period expires. This is my favorite car of all cars on the market presently. If I had my druthers it would be my primary car and possibly my only car.
Good review. Just one thing, the CD door below the screen closes by once again gently pulling back on the door and letting go, not forcing it shut manually. It’s a Porsche thing. Interior quality is fantastic of course. The buttons are great.
He seemed a bit unimpressed, probably because he has an upscale Cayman. That's okay. I really like this small Porsche. Not a fan of the base plastic dash or the odd starting knob.
nhprman We just struggle to find a reason to buy the base model Macan over a comparable Q5, X3, or RDX. That being said, we haven’t driven the Macan S, GTS, or Turbo models yet.
@@theredline I stopped at an automotive repair shop that specializes is Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, VW and BMW to ask about the Macan prior to purchasing ours used. The owner says the Mercedes and BMW are what's keeping him in business. And believe me, I saw a lot of them in his shop waiting to be worked on.
People that need to feel validated and need to be seen in a car with a luxury badge on it. Hence why luxury car makers are making so many 'entry level' luxury cars that aren't even luxurious but just has the badge Like a base trim Lincoln would have cloth seats, etc but for $3-4k less you could have gotten the top trim Ford with leather seats and tons of features.
Devon Gee Porsche just spend €1 billion++ on their factory upgrade. It’s like an operating theatre. Your comment is ill-conceived as it’s the same people that designed the 911 GT2 RS and the recent-launched 911 Speedster. I have ordered the 911 Speedster. Nice 😀
Hello people i bought a macan s whit 58000km 2018 for 42000 euro 1 owner all the check in porsche garage. Bose sound system... whit few option like that. Very clean look almost new. Is it a good deal?
@@asitmc where did you see or hear that from? The new RDX is only getting great reviews. I'm not looking for an SUV, but my parents got a new RDX A-Spec and has been perfect for them. I think better than perfect because my mom is very particular with alot of things and this car doesn't have any of her concerns, plus lots of compliments on it. Even Redline Reviews has a glowing review on it.
@@asitmc I have the 2019 RDX and it's been amazing so far. The only complaint I've really seen is that some people's infotainments are a bit buggy but I haven't had any issues so far.
Eh. “In typical Porsche fashion” this thing is overpriced and underwhelming. I’ll take the quality and simplicity of my ‘19 XC60. Also...very biased review. You never let halogen fog lights slide like that on any other cars.
I would love to see the numbers with the 400 horsepower version. I bet it screams down the road, as it just emptied your bank account for the cost of the upgraded motor LOL
I would buy the Cadillac XT4 and the Mazda CX-5 turbo before even looking at this. 65k for this example is highway robbery. You should have been way more harsh towards this vehicle like you were in your review of the Regal GS. This Macan looks like it should be no more than 40k max price for your tester.

If you don't own a Porsche then you don't really know what you are talking about. I would rather have a Porsche over any american compact SUV. I wouldn't buy this one. I would opt for the Macan S or GTS. You can get a nice used one 40K-50k.
@@YouWillNeverKnow actualy Porsche leads in JD Power ratings. You cant hate them for exterior design, but You cant say its shit. And also collage girls will suck You in much cheaper cars.
Porsche doesn't stand behind the quality of their vehicles. Transfer case on my 2015 Macan S has failed twice now in only 27,000 miles. This is a known issue which caused Porsche to extend their warranty to 7 ys. Their "improved" transfer case lasted only 2 years 2 months and 9,000 miles. I am out of warranty by 6 weeks and Porsche turns their back on problem and sticks me for $3,200 repair. Don't buy a Porsche w/o extended warranty for entire length of time you expect to own it. #1 rated warranty company - Endurance - won't even sell coverage on Macan. That should tell Porsche and all potential buyers something. Customer experience is far from an expected premium car brand experience.
13:36 Oh Goody Gumdrops! Felt..😂 But on serious note, it looks like Porsche just wanted to piece together something to fill that empty slot in their lineup. They make phenomenal cars but their CUVs seem to lag behind most competitors in build quality and especially especially especially reliability.. Even short term.
Wasn’t expecting so much hate for the Macan in the comments. Porsche vehicles are expensive. Of course they are. That’s nothing new. And I bet most of these are leased, and really, the only time you have to worry about maintenance or reliability is if you plan on keeping a vehicle for more than five years, or if you buy it used.
Edit: Retract my original comment. Apparently to the internet says the compete but at quite different price points (at least in my area) the Alfa is the far better deal. By me you can pick up a Stevlio for around 35k and some even a round 33k but have fun trying to find a Macan under 50k. Interested to see what Alfas go for in other parts.
This is a much nicer car than a CX-5 Turbo (they aren’t in the same price class) and noticeably quicker, but when you properly compare it to what you get in an Audi SQ5 for the same price, the base Macan is pointless. The SQ5 is much more of basically the same car, including much better performance and more storage space. Only reason to get the Macan is for the badge.
You mean the Porsche SUV's and Panorama crossover or all Porsche cars? If you mean all Porsche cars i would call you crazy. Porsche has and still does build iconic and amazing sports cars. From the legendary 959 to the Carrera GT to the 918 Spyder to the 911 GT2RS
100 thousand sold a year? Have never seen 1 on the road. I live in Las Vegas and Florida. Only people who need to show off would wast money on this 4 cylinder 30 thousand dollar car.
It is not the first Porsche to have a 4 cylinder engine. For example, at one point, the 944 had a 3 liter 4 cylinder engine- the largest 4-cylinder production engine ever in any car.. I'm surprised that you don't know what you're talkin about. How about the Porsche 912? I could go on and on.
Alfa stelvo ti sport awd is a way better bargain and more hp and tq to boot!!! Plus the stelvio outperforms this in every way!! No brainer porche wants to much money for the suv marketed vehicles
You where way more harsh on the Maserati for parts sharing but your way more soft on this car. Maybe it’s because you have one ? Maserati doesn’t share a platform with A chrysler. This car shares too much with VW and Audi This car is garbage hard plastic back doors in a Porsche . Lmao
I always thought dealers would give you mid-tier or top trim loaners to try and entice you to trade in your current car and get a higher trim model on your next purchase.
The macan is a nice car but it needs a refresh, the design is starting to look dated. When you compare it to the Audi, say the sq5 , I could see someone passing over the macan for that reason
3.0 Biturbo in the S/GTS is NOT the same motor as in the SQ5, it's a porsche large bore, short stroke that's also in the previous gen panamera 4S. It has no relation with the audi 3.0
really bias reviews from this guy he didnt cry about halogen fog lights but any other car he does and he makes up excuses for this car he knocks at 26k hyundai elantra thats fully loaded real funny watching this joke
I agree. I’ve noticed the “snob factor” awhile ago. You know what’s funny, his CAYMAN interior looks very similar to the very interior he just whined about.
