Concerning the question about the price paid for a "Beetle", I paid around $1900 for a new one! However, that was 1960 and it was a new 1960 model. It was my first new car after graduating from college!

lol my girlfriend has a 2016/2017 denim edition convertible. Same wheels, replace seats with literal denim jean inserts (including jean pockets), heated seats, pretty much the same car. With the denim top and trunk spoiler, it looks like it's wearing a jean baseball cap. She has a turbo but like you said... not fast lol. Convertible can probably fit 1 box max so practicality is not there. So funny about the gloss black door sills, her car is white but still gets uncomfortably hot on a sunny day. I'd say this the better looking of the other gen Beetles. Great vid as always! Beetles cuter 100% P.S. SHE PAID LIKE $23K FOR HERS NEW! $27K??? THAT'S ABSURD
I actually have myself a Beetle, a 2015MY Classic Edition. It has the exact same rims as this car but the interior trim is done in the body color (mine's Reflex Silver Metallic) and it's got these sweet-looking seats with checkered cloth inserts and carmel brown leather bolstering and headrests, complete with creme and brown stitching all over the interior. It is such a sweet little car, such fun to drive and I always get compliments on it since I clean and detail it every month or two.
Ah nostalgia. I miss mine! Bought a 8 month old Turbo with a 6MT with 2k miles for $15,000 USD back in 2013. Had all the same gripes though after living with it for 3 years. Always had to adjust volume with the steering wheel so the power logo would stay correct. I would burn my arm on occasion on the black door trim, and definitely had to wipe lotion off it too. Learned to do the underhand grab for the seatbelt, made life much easier. Did you guys ever have issues with the windows freezing during the test? Always had that issue every winter since the windows need to lower when opening to clear the seal.
My aunt had a Beetle convertible and during the winter the windows will freeze so it was hard to open the door, and I have a VW CC and it has frameless windows too and i have the same issue during the winter

Great review. Thanks for pointing out the volume knob! ;-) We drove this car in extremely windy conditions and it held the road great. I love the teal color. Apple CarPlay works really well. The rear seats don't lie totally flat like the did on the last model. Handles well.

Fact -- I am the ex-owner of a previous generation New Beetle turbo and by folding down the passenger seat, I was able to fit an 8' longboard completely inside and go surfing AND the best thing about owning one was watching people punch each other in the arm as I passed by.
I totally agree with Yuri on liking the retro beetles more. Currently the owner of a 01' GLS turbo beetle, and my friend has a tuned 03' turbo s with ~200hp now, both have auto-deploy spoilers which is totally unnecessary but awesome at the same time. I feel like at least Yuri would love to drive any of the retro beetles, but if Jakub was there doing a review would recommend at least a turbo GLS to somewhat please him in the handling and power department.

The 2000s Beetle was unreliable. Hope this one will prove itself otherwise as it also looks much better. I dig the retro rims. So unique and reminiscent of the first Beetle and Bus. Yuri, it is freezing in Ontario, what's with the summer outfit?? Hawaii is ancient history!!😂
Im driving my moms 2003 Beetle 2.0 with 116hp in cybergreen. She paid like 5k for it and it is so much fun. You always meet new people because of the car, they also want to take photos with and of it or even want to take a ride. If you are a person who isn't that into conversations with strangers it's absolut the wrong car for you ^^ 116hp isn't that fast but it's perfect for learning to drive like in mine case. If you want a sports car buy a Porsche. My dream car is a 2018 Beetle R-Line but unfortunately VW stopped selling the coupé in Germany.

I went to Volkswagens Facebook page when they introduced the 2017 beetle without offering a manual transmission, I wasn't the only one lots of people still want manuals
So- I just rented a 2017 beetle and it didn’t feel stupid slow to me. That turbo was fun! I mean I also just tested a model 3 last week and it was like 3-4x quicker but I still had fun in this little bug.

Is a bummer that the beetle was discontinued here in brazil. For the price people've chosen the GTI instead. but we had the original beetle in production until 1994 so you can find the original (not the new beetle the 1950s one) in good shape. Which is better because it is manual AND has rear engine.
The cruise control controls are easy to use. I have those in my 2002 Polo. And the visor is just vw saving money. For example my car has no door sensor for the passenger side. So the interior lights only light up when the driver door is opened. That sensor cost extra.
? No they didn’t. The 1.8 turbo had 150 hp, and wasn’t around anymore in 2008. The 2.0T took over with 200 hp. And the displacements don’t mean much nowadays anyway...I’m pretty sure the 1.8 and 2.0 are the same engines, just tuned differently.

edmaluf That’s not fair, that’s an Audi engine, used in a two door sports car..sure it’s derived from VW but it’s still an Audi. VW isn’t moving backwards, these engines are far more efficient and cleaner in every way, not to mention it doesn’t make sense to give a Beetle 250 hp.

Nice demo video. I’ve driven one now for 4 years and got bored of the not really retro design/ round forms . It’s all too voluminous outside/ tiny inside. In frozen winter ( Norway) doors don’t open without a custom made tool to loosen glass from the horizontal rubber lining. I’ll buy a more square little premium car .
in that list of retro cars that have left you should of included the challenger as one that survived. its the beetle and the challenger not just the beetle but still dope
Andrew Denisyuk They definitely are 2.0t engines. VW updated their lineup for 2018 with another reworked EA888, the 3B, which uses the larger 2.0 displacement.
Volkswagen say they are going to discontinue Beetle.. do think there is still a lot of life with this car especially now with the transitioning to electric power. And if this had EV tech VW can actually go back to Beetle's original platform which is rear engine/RWD ( batteries ) or an option of all-wheel-drive electric. This car needs the Porsche 911's more rounded side mirrors to gel with it's looks.. and would be nice if the front turn signals were placed on top of the fenders ( like original Bug ) but be aero-designed.
