I finally am replacing the 20 yr old stained and trampled carpet in my 98 Suburban. ACC makes good product. This being my first ever attempt at such a project, yeah, not all went as well as I might have liked.

I'm currently doing carpet on my '99 k1500 Suburban. I wouldn't reccomend doing it yourself if it's your DD. I've been doing it off and on for more than a week. It is my spare truck. I did learn some things. First, lay it out in the garage for a few days, and try to get the molded parts in shape. I did not use the peel and stick insulation. The GMT400 platforms are prone to leakage. Water will sit under the insulation and rust the floors. If you have any leaks, address them now. GE Silicone ll will be your friend. Second, the interior must be taken out completely. This includes pillar trim, kick panels, and rear wheel well covers (where the jack is stowed and the rear a/c. These you just remove the screws and lift them a few inches). Now would be a good time to clean the 20 + years of gunk off the plastic trim. I use ZEP degreaser, mixed 50/50. Have someone help you fit the carpet in the vehicle. Like mfg. instructions say, start in the middle. Fit rear cargo step, and tranny tunnel. I did the rear seats first. Next is the front console. Seat belts must be installed first. Then the console bracket, then the console. Fitting under the dash is a pain in the ass. Take the center floor vent off, then the bottom of the heater plenum. Be careful not to damage the heater core. Take your time. Trim a little at a time to get propper fit. Beer is not recommended, even though you need 1, or 2, or.....well you get the idea. The end result will be worth the sweating and cursing. Again take your time. If it pisses you off, close the door and walk away. Good luck all.....

Bob so I’m looking at all your fantastic advice here on my video and wondering why didn’t you record the process of doing yours? Sounds like you coulda helped add to the base of knowledge. This truck IS my daily driver and this WAS my first time doing vehicle carpet. I don’t know of any other videos on recarpeting a Suburban (or my S10), so I videoed both trucks. So I’m hoping it helps others considering the job themselves see what they’re getting into. And I’ve always used sound deadener and never sen them cause rust when properly applied. They shouldn’t leave space for water to infiltrate. They ARE an additional waterproofing when properly applied on a very hot day like I did here. A lot of your other advice is just repeating what I already said in the video. Again, why aren’t you recording your jobs and sharing them?

If you are 100% sure your carpet is where it needs to be, I have heated up a screw driver red hot to poke through for the holes for seats and seat belts. It goes through everything like butter.

Soldering Iron is the other heat applied method I've heard used, too.

I am finishing my carpet installation on my 98 1500 ext cab, it was definitely not easy to get good holes but it looks pretty decent.

If it makes you feel any better we put dynamat in ours and it clearly deadens the sound to our ears. I can have an easy conversation while the engine is at 3000 rpms and 4" peformance exhaust. It's like we're floating on a cloud compared to how it was. We're in Utah so we're driving up and down all the time.

Yeah, the whole project did help a ton, but I'm not in the Cadillac range of internal comfort by any means. I'm thinking reworking the 3" dual exhaust is about the only real option left for sound control....which effectively means back to square one. I just can't take that drone on the long pulls on I-80 to Wyoming. The trip to Colorado on Hwy 6 is much improved, though.

If you still have some scraps left maybe you could sew some extra length on. Use heavy fishing line or something. Just an idea. Looked like the decibles are a little lower. I am not sure how sound is measured. I know there are all kinds of frequencies and we are able to hear them differently. The drone might be the same decible but different frequency. I know when I did my Ranger it still had a far amount of noise but it did sound better.

I was thinking about that. Kinda like how carpet gets stitched and glued together in construction.

Great truck.. Great video. Just got a steal on my dream truck. 95 2dr Yukon. All original aside from 4" lift on 33s and dual exhaust. CA truck all its life, no accident history and straight body. Seats are clean but needs carpet. Same interior color scheme as yours. I'm thinking of just buying Charcoal or Med Grey ACC for passenger area only. Get some molded rubber black floor mats and matching mat for cargo area. Noticed the Tx sticker, We're just N of Houston in Conroe,Tx. Any regrets with the purchase/install?

Nope, the carpet is still holding up strong.

Use a strip of your carpet you trimmed to go from underneath the rocker cover (where it is short) to under the seat in a clean rectangular shape and it will look way better…. Also, I ordered an ACC carpet for my vehicle and it arrived too short and moulded improperly…..

Any chance you could add some links to the sound deadening stuff? I was able to find the carpet from the beginning shots. What is "The Quadro" ??

Ben Kanobe Quadro is one of GT Mat’s products. They’re a company outa TX. I’ve used their products on my trucks and like them. When I re-did my S10’s interior I ordered the sound deadener from ACC with my carpet. They offered a really good price on 80mil. I ordered the foil backed jute padding from LMC Truck as well for the S10.

Gotta install a new floor carpetin a '96. . NOT looking forwad to it. In hindsight would you do it again or pay to have it done? Where can I get the same step boards? Sure like those.. ThX, Dee

Thanks. Yes, I’d absolutely do it myself. Doing that much teardown on my truck I don’t trust other people to take care of my old trucks. Steps are Nfab. I did two vids on the instal. Go watch them, avoid my mistakes. They’ve been great and take far mor abuse than I ever thought they would.

Hello, question on 17:58 when you talk about the t-Rex tape, those 2 wires with orange tape on it, do you know what there for? Been trying to figure it out and I have no idea, if you don’t no problem. 👍
@rockymtnredneck4888
@rockymtnredneck4888 4 года назад
Anthony Garcia the ones I picked up and set down on top of the airbag module? Those are to the power seat controls. If your truck doesn’t have power seats, but does have the wires, guess what? You can get a power seat from a Pic n Pull and hook it up!

Hey there Rocky, no if you look up on the video on exactly 17:58, there’s 2 wires there, looks like bulbs go in them? But can see why or where they go, and I have no power on them.
@rockymtnredneck4888
@rockymtnredneck4888 4 года назад
Anthony Garcia which 4wd system do you have? Orange a lot of times is power to accessories. If you have push button on the dash like me, that explains why no power. If I’m seeing what you’re trying to get me to see, it’s the wiring to the floor shifter 4wd system. Basically just lights it up. The power isn’t given to it because you don’t have it? Probably interrupted at the under dash junction box or at the fuse block.

I have them too, on my'99 K1500. I think they're for a different application. GM may use 1 harness for all. They would take a 194 bulb. Maybe for the pre electic 4wd ? Lights for the floor shift console ?

It has laid down very nicely. Only some minor areas that need some more attention.

Nice. I just so happen to pur hase mine Nd was nervous about it so I looked and seen you did yours. One more thing, have you replaced the motor on your driver seat? Mine is going out, and have been looking for replacement with no luck.

@rockymtnredneck4888 5 лет назад
Isaia Falo my seat motor is sluggish, but I don’t normally move it unless I’m doing work under the dash, so I haven’t even looked for a replacement.

I'd enjoy your vids a lot more but you talk too much about nothing. You address a problem then keep harping on it over and over and over. That's time that you could use to actually demonstrate what gourd doing in your projects except talking about them. I come to these vids to learn how to do projects. What I've learned from yours is to fast forward thru them. I don't mean to be a sick but make it worth your viewers time to want to watch your blogs. As for your cutting things measure twice, cut once. Looking forward to your next blog.

Terry Myers, you do know how those of us that post our adventures/misadventures feel about those who post nothing making so called constructive criticism, don’t you? You say you aren’t trying to be a dick as if that makes your dick comments okay. It does not. There’s no call for being rude to someone who is trying to show others what to expect should they attempt similar repairs or projects. If I’m talking, it’s to say something I wish someone would have told me and I do try to post videos about repairs/projects I haven’t found elsewhere on RU-vid. Until you demonstrate your superior abilities to do just that, you really should refrain from making dick comments to youtube creators.
