I just bought mine a week ago and they arrive tomorrow, how long are the base station cables, I prepared some things to put them but all depends on how long they are
They are surprisingly long, mine are right now installed in cable channels but from measuring it along the wall it seems to be just about five meters in total. Keep in mind my set is now three years old, it's not impossible that some aspect of the SKU might have changed, but it seems a reasonable to still expect that length.

@@mukafahat_aldubab_al-alktruni depends on your use case, if you like full-body tracking and generally tend to spend more time in VR, then I would go for index, since it’s basestation tracked, which results in super-easy + super accurate fullbody setup, it’s also wired, which results in no streaming artifacts, no fucking around with battery life and less hassle in general, just click a button on your controller and you’re good to go, also knuckle controllers are unmatched, full finger tracking is highly appreciated… but if you’re getting your first VR headset and just want to experience casual VR, then quest would probably be a better choice (and cheaper, of course)
I know this is about 2 years late to the upload but what's your experience with the index, Been playing vr for years now just never had enough to get one until recently. Do you have any suggestions or useful information from having one for so long.
While the upload was two year ago, the video was more than five years ago 🤣 The main tips would be: 1. Be careful with the cable, if you see RGB pixels in your image the cable is giving out, spares cost a bit. 2. Be careful of sweat, rest the headset lenses down after an intense activity to make it last longer. 3. Wear the back of the strap fairly high on your head, it's in the official fit guide. 4. If you have big hands, you can get boosters and/or reroute the elastic (I do both). I think that's it!

they sell new for $1k which is what makes a lot of people not get them, but you can get a really nice used one for anywhere between $400-$700, im about to get one soon for about $450 (i know this comment is like 4 months old but i figured i'd respond anyways)
I think I will save up for a new pc and then get a index, im not sure if I’m just ganna use my quest 3 instead (no problem about the late reply I actually appreciate you replying)
@@Mental_Meno what are your pc's specs? you might not even need a new one for the index, if i remember correctly a nvidia gtx 1080 or better gpu can run vr just fine. might not be the best graphics but it gets the job done
@@Mental_Meno i see, if your computer is kind of outdated i would upgrade instead like you said if i were you. one last thing though, facebook marketplace is probably your best bet for a used valve index btw
hey man, im picking mine up tomorrow. finally, after 1 year i got rid of my oculus and i already have the valve 3.0's trackers. Trust me, youll get there. im getting mine of facebook market place, and im going in and making sure everything is working.
Can I get a valve even if i have a gaming laptop with core I7 and a 2060 I’m pretty sure I have a 2060 or more so doesn’t that mean I only need the correct plugs??
Performance wise that should work, I think, unless it being a laptop means it has limitations I don't know about. The main problem is to get a working DisplayPort connection then, I don't think most laptops have something for that directly, although might be accessible through USB-C I guess. I don't have any experience of running the Index off of a laptop myself.
@@jandti7335 do you mean if it provides power? I don't think so, that's very unusual for PC devices in my experience, what would be called plug-in power on a recorder. But, I've never used the port myself, so it's just a guess, you'd have to look up specifications to know for sure.
you can edit commens, and yes the pc dosnt matter the specs and os do, you need at minemum a gtx 1070 and a i7 to run comforablty, and windows is recomended as thats all i know works for sure
I know im 2 years late but i just got a index and im haveing some weird lag framdrops and some form of a resolution bug. My pc should easily handle the index so anyone watching in 2024 plz give me advice lol 😂
Depending on your GPU, SteamVR can automatically set your resolution multiplier pretty high. I have an RTX 3080 right now, and I pull mine down to 100% just to ensure more stable frame delivery. Check the SteamVR settings and it should be in there, if not on the main page, then on the video section.
Nope, controllers connect straight to the headset and I believe if you want to use BT power management for the base stations that is in the headset? In any case, it is not required.
@@pianoplayz7910 It updates it through the cable witch connects to the pc and the controllers and base stations connect via Bluetooth built into the headset.
Base stations don't need an active data connection to the PC, they just connect to power. Then if you can extend the headset cable to reach another room, or drill a hole through a wall, yes you can do VR in the next room over or the floor below, etc.
Because my extra base stations had arrived before this, and I already put them up, meaning I could save putting up the included ones until later, giving me a total of four v2 base stations.
It requires DisplayPort, but if you have a Thunderbolt/miniDP on it, possibly. Kind of depends on specs if things will run well, so mileage will definitely vary.
