i just did the water pump in my 18 as well. you literally don’t even need to replace the entire pump, just the pulley that detaches from the pump. that was probably the smartest design gm has ever done. took me ten min. i even slapped on a new thermostat and did a radiator flush along with putting on a new belt

It still is a 20 min job. I can’t figure out why he disassembled half the stuff he did. He skpped through a lot of steps like the ac compressor which is the most annoying part of this whole job to lign it up with the block, and a few other things, i do it that way for the ppl first time doing it, and give details

It’s a great video, it helped me a lot but I took out the water pump without having to take out fuse box and fan shroud. It wasn’t that much more difficult. Only thing is that you’ll need to take out the alternator together with the water pump. The long alternator screw on bottom won’t come out unless you remove the passenger side fan. There’s enough wiggle room to take it out together. I watched video several times to guide me.

Hey do the bolts need to be torqued to a specific spec on the water pump ?

No torque specs ,tight them in sequence so that they can evenly seated

Nope it was too easy,i used to change water pump on the older gen in 10 min, now it pays about 3 hours to change one, and they like to fail

@@mikemckenna1929 you don’t need to pull the fuse box or the fan just disconnect the passenger side fans and put take out the 3 screws that hold it i believe they are Torx 25 or Torx 27 so you can’t get the alternator bolt out
