What an excellent idea. Enjoyed your dad and his comments regarding the differences between the consecutive model years. I like the grey, but your dad's bike looks killer!
Hi from South Africa. I progressed from F800GS, 1200GS, 1200GSA, S1000R and now the new S1000XR in exactly the same colour and lowered seat spec. I love the silent pipe, coming from the S1000R with Akropovic The seating position is fantastic, and long rides are a breeze. Seat is a bit hard especially on the edge where it makes contact with your thighs. Mine goes in for the 1000km service this week, which will unlimit the rev (currently governed to 9000rpm) Best bike I've owned so far.
Really enjoyed the format of this video. You make a great presenting team. There is no substitute for experience with a model. I love you Dad’s comment “They haven’t finished painting it yet”. The colour is growing on me but I like the rich blue. Triple black looks very good. The XR is at the top of my list for an urban commuter with some light off-road capability (with suitable tyres). Good point on the peg position. Looking forward to the riding vlog. These conditions are a great test as wet weather performance is critical in the UK. We all need three bikes - big tourer, middle weight crossover and sport bike. The XR seems to be the ideal middleweight. My Dad also had spadehands, obligatory for a master craftsman.
@@UsernameKate I love it, it is insanely fast and manageable at the same time. My commute is 70miles near San Francisco. Which is worst if you are in a car. The bike makes it so much more enjoyable and I look forward to it every morning.
Just ordered one in ice grey with all the bells and whistles. Waiting for it to be delivered to my dealership in South Carolina. Most people really like this bike. I hope I do as well. Nice video of yourself and your dad comparing the two different generations of this bike. 👌👌
Hi Kate and Dad, It was nice to get Dad's perspective between the old and new XR's with his long history of riding, I like the colour, it looks classy, and the adjustable levers are a great idea.Dad's is a lot higher and left your legs dangling. The make "biggerer" pad is handy and Dad is as relaxed as you in front of the camera and I'm sure we will see more of him, riding the new XR maybe!
Huge thanks to your dad for his valuable inputs! I must agree with him wrt the looks department. The vibes question has been answered! I've heard differing views: for some people it was an absolute deal breaker. And some people couldn't be bothered.
Nice video. Being able to lower this bike from factory is a big plus compared to other manufacturers. With only a 29" inside leg many bikes are just too tall for me but with the BMW lowering set up I think this bike should be spot on. When you add to that a seat designed for two people, a comfortable riding position a centre stand and 160 bhp what more could you want. Although nearly 70 will be trying this out in the new year. Thanks again.
Great review. I owned the 2016 model year and loved it. The new lineup is making it very hard to choose a new one, like the Triumph 900, KTM1290, etc. Such first world problems 😅😅😅. Loved the real world approach with your dad.
Your dad does an awesome job. Subtle explanations not just saying specs like power and torque. Just regular stuff anyone and even an enthusiast can relate to. He needs more airtime here 😂😂. Username Dad
Thank you for posting. Nice to be able to have two models side by side for comparison. Would have been nice if either you or him had ridden both bikes followed by comments. Looking forward to the follow up video. :)
Haha thats the sad thing... he wasn't insured on the works demo at that moment in time and I cant ride his because I cant touch the floor 😅 i'm sure there will be a follow up along those lines sometime in the future - just need to suss logistics lol
Great looking bikes (both models) the grey looks absolutely fantastic and the tft, have to agree with TMF class leading, one day hopefully I will get a GS,nearly got one 2nd hand once but unfortunately the seller let me down. One day🤞🏻 Great video as always, stay safe.👍🏻
I have exactly the same bike as your Dad , I’ve ridden a 2020 twice now they are different and I think the bars are narrow compared to the 19. At 70 mph the new one is doing 500 revs less to keep the great vids coming Kate 👍👍
Nice to have the two bikes side by side especially that your dad is the owner of one too. Good review! New XR is 👌👌👌 Getting on the bike, just climb on it. Put foot on foot peg like a step and swing over. So much easier like.
Your dad seems like a very nice man. I have the 2019 Triple Black XR, and my 30-year-old son Has the 2020 Ice Grey XR. I love my Triple black, but I am jealous of his.
Great vid, really good insight from an owner of the previous version, I think they’ve done a superb job of the new xr and I think the ice grey is the colour to have, but I prefer the panniers on your dads, anyway keep up the good work 👍
I`m new to your channel. After watching your gutsy performance in the rain on the G310R I simply had to subscribe. I`m liking the content of your videos and I clearly have a lot of catching up to do. Incidentally your Dad comes across as a cool guy and I enjoyed his input. You two obviously have a great rapport.
Strangely enough, I prefer the look of my red 2015 s1000xr to the new shape in red, but looking at those two side by side I've suddenly seen the new shape in a new light. I love the primer colour. Just shows how a colour makes so much difference to any vehicle. Love the video btw. You have a new subscriber 👍
I've had 3 XR's including a triple black and a new ice grey model. I do at least 12500 miles a year both here and abroad most of it Two up. I really enjoyed the two previous models however, the new model is lighter and easier to ride. The new engine is superb and very smooth, I do miss the noise the old model made in dynamic though. My passenger reports that the rear seat isn't as long however the suspension is better.
I rode the new XR when I brought my 1250GS in for service. That one for all "cured" me from thinking ever swap the XR for the GS. The XR is a nice bike over all, but I didn't like the riding position, and of Course the engine was totally different. One has to rev it quite up to get the torque kicking in, when I picked up my GS it was much more my style to ride a bike and the torque not less brutal much more cultivated if that makes sense. The overall handling is far too "excited" for me. That's the main reason why one buys a GS over a Sports or an Adventure-Sports bike I suppose... :-) Good video.
The new dash is lovely, I wish other manufacturers went with a matt finish display, get no glare off that and it also looks more touchy feely than the gloss finish dash's on other bikes! :-) Preferred the old headlight set up though.
Good comparison. Nice to see both side by side as you did. I wasn't able to hear you both especially your dad for a lot of the video though. Have you heard of the new DJI Pocket 2 with the wireless mic package? Yeah, that would step your footage up a great deal I think. Keep up the cracking vids.
Oooh, I hadnt! I will check it out. 2020 has been a good year to see where my vids fall down so for 2021 I'm hoping to invest in some better equipment 😊 thanks for the comment!
Love this! What a great dynamic you two have 🙏🏻 I have to say I prefer the look of your dad's triple black 😈😈 I absolutely love the Sport SE you sold to me. Having gone from a 1200GSA I just needed something a little more spicy. Needless to say I've gotta throw the bog roll in the fridge before a ride out... 🤘🏻🤪
I’m with your dad on the colour. Liked the rapport you have with your dad ; I prefer the look of the new one colour apart but like the older non TFT dash. I love an analogue Rev counter. Good review 👍🏻
Wow, just came across this one, wanted to buddy your Dad;s channel, he is definitely a great guy and hope to say hi one day, may buy him a brew when I jump the Pond :) So anyway, I have adj levers on my 98 k1200rs, interesting they didn't on his 19 s1000? hmm, intereting.. course i have the flat 4 "brick" motor, and you all have the new short stroke Rippers! Congrats and greets from Fla, usa, stay cool and stay safe! TWD! DF
Quality bike... I’ve just traded my 2017 model for the new 2020 model ... ice grey... not a fan of the colour so I’m having it painted... full titanium Acrapovic arrives today... canni wait.... I call in at Williams Manchester just the other day... Great review
Ridden both back to back I have older version and much prefer it it just feels more aggressive and nippier I changed the clutch lever as well and had criuse control issues it was little metal plate within housing if you bend it even a little it stops it working hope your dad got it sorted
I'm afraid I'm with your dad on the colour, not a fan of the primer finish. Perhaps its and age thing 🤣 How do you get on with being subjective reviewing BMW's ? You do a great job on your review vids 👍
My xr is awesome put heavier bar ends on vibes virtually disappeared.changed to adjustable levers doesn't and shouldn't be an issue with cruise control your dad needs to get that checked out. I added a brake modulator xr didn't appreciate that so took it back off . But what a machine it's great 👍👌 cracking video I think personally my 2018 hp colours are better jmo keep up the good work lass take care and ride safe..ps I'm 67 yrs young and feel like a 16yr old when I'm on my bike.
Good looking bike looking forward to the review it's a bike I've been keen to try for a while now as my multi is ageing ( gracefully but still aging) maybe try one in the spring. Watch those leaves 👍🏍
You do great vids, and very knowledgable about the bikes your on. You and your dad are brilliant, I laughed when he said this bike was in primer i.e. similar to the colour of his front door. Your dad has become more than an EXTRA in these vids and soon due a wage from your BM shop (or a cut of your's lol). You mentioned before he had an old Beemer, what's he got? I think I told you I have a 1973 R75/5. Thank you. I do have a notion for an immaculate low mileage GS1250TE with box's for under £12K if you have one lying around the showroom you're having trouble shifting lol. What is the differences with the Rallye?
He's not wrong about the primer grey. Very popular at the moment but along the lines of the "blacked out" look....cheap finish look. Daughter and Dad review team, very, very cool!
Great video, would be good to see a Father and Daughter ride out on those beasts. For what it's worth I prefer the newer bike but in the triple black colour ....
Hi Kate IM also with your Dad on the Matt colours dont look great in my view also the seat is cupping you in to a fixed position , i think i will stick with my Ducati 950 S ,even if it has a few Vibes Though the Seat least i can move around and get comfy yes , Love the Video Stay Safe .
I think the new bike is much nicer. I was thinking about buying an XR last year and I'm very glad I waited. My 2007 Hayabusa and 2013 ZX14R Kawasaki aren't going to be sold, however.
Try Climbing on by first putting your left foot on the left peg (bike still on sidestand) then standing up (one foot), hands on the bars, and you have plenty of clearance for the right leg to swing over (even with a top box). So much easier! I see the hand guards have shrunk on the new bike! why? How do you find the low seat after more than 10 miles?
Other road testers say it vibrates at 70 mph. Have you found that? Front mudguard very short needs a fender extends or all the muck will be on front of engine. Not much padding in seat.
