2019 Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320, Clearcoat Issue (Not Impressed): 

It seems as though a lot of people are missing the point of the video. The first 2 defects aren't a big deal and I even said in the video that they're small and I don't even care about them. The main issue is the paint drips hanging down below the rockers and bubbling clear coat in the wheel wells which is inexcusable. Also, we are obviously Mopar fans, since we are of course a Mopar dedicated website. We didn't make a video just to whine and complain. This car is was bought as our long term test vehicle, as part of having integrity and being transparent, that means we cover the information for everyone both good and bad.

So the disappointing aspect of this video is the paint? Change the title, it seems that I was going to watch on how it was underperforming or rattling or interior was outdated or vibrating chassis. But paint? Extremely disappointed with the paint ONLY! Waste of time.

I have a 2019 Challenger R/T built in March, delivered April 2019 andI am completely satisfied with everything including build quality. After viewing your video I again checked every inch of the exterior, including the fender lips and they are smooth and perfect. The paint is flawless and panel fit just as tight and smooth. I can’t imagine how yours missed the mark, but it seems to be an extreme exception. My son also has a 2019 Scat Pack Challengerthat exceeds his expectations. Just letting you know that this may be one that got away. I hope it is fixed to your satisfaction.

I would be disappointed as well. These cars aren't cheap and I would expect better a better finish from a brand new car.

How sad! You don't expect a car of this quality and Price to be Having Issue's, especially Paint Issue's?! I'm A Mopar Dodge Girl my whole life,I have saw P.t Cruisers and Neons with the Clear coat Bubbling and Peeling ,but these cars were much older! I hope the Dealership stands behind you!!

Sorry to see this. If they repaint it, you can almost bet it won't be as good as a factory job and the repaint will be spotted on a trade and the car will certainly be devalued. Better to see if a wet sand will solve the problem. Or, get a lawyer to help you get them to take the car back and exchange it for a different car.

I bought a mustang in 1989 that had paint runs and obvious problems from a quick fix body and paint job. Never found out if it was from factory or the dealer. Betting you have same issue.

Jeez. After your second complaint I had enough. Good luck with your car. Hopefully you can eventually be happy with it if you can stop picking nits long enough to get out and drive it.

Personally I would see if Dodge would give me a cash adjustment and take care of paint myself. Would not want a dealer screwing with it. Good luck.

That sux man. I'm so proud of my Challenger if I saw that crappy paintwork on mine id be pissed. There made in Ontario Canada. My Honda civic was made there too so I assumed shitwork like this would have not made it off the assembly line. FCA needs to make that right. Keep us posted.

The more issues I see with these cars the less I want one. Too many unacceptable QC issues. I have no plans on having it at the dealer every other week because most people think that is NORMAL. It's not. Some of these issues I have seen are a joke and horrible QC and workmanship. Thanks for the video.

I'm a retired body shop owner and, like you a big MOPAR fan. In 2000 I purchased a new Dakota, was at the dealership when the truck arrived on the transporter. Several years later my truck was struck in the rear bumper which caused minor damage to the box and back of cab. While doing the paint repair I decided to fix a small crack in the paint on each front fender. Big surprise, the crack was the result of both fenders being repainted at least 7 times which created a film thickness many times thicker than spec. In your case I question why so much of the car was repainted as well very concerned at the quality of the repair. If the car has to be repainted again that is at least 3 paint jobs. The repair on my truck was so good I didn't know it had been repainted and I'm pretty much an expert at spotting a repaint. If your car has to be repainted again that is at least 3 paint jobs.Not Good, it will eventually crack from excessive thickness as well as reduce the crispness of all lines and edges on the car. I suggest you find an experienced painter to inspect your car and advise you as you deal with Dodge. Best of luck, I love my Scat Pack and hope yours gives you as much joy as mine has given me.

That stuff dripping below the rockers isn't paint. It's actually much worse. That's foam injected to fill in the rocker and quarter panel voids. Over time, it absorbs water and rusts out the rockers and quarters from the inside.

Take it back...I've owned 3 challengers 2015 Rt/2016 SRT392/& 2017 scatpack and I never had a problem...simply take it back

I had similar issues with a 99 Dakota R/T. They were hard to find in a regular cab version when they first came out. The one I finally found had lots of trash in the paint, stamping flaws in the hood, flaws in the powdercoated wheels. I complained that these combined issues were not acceptable. Fortunately the regional rep agreed, they took the truck back and let me order a new one. I would NEVER accept a brand new car to be refinished, MAKE THEM REPLACE IT!!!!!!!!

Dude, that car was repainted by the dealership probably due to shipping damage. Those are NOT factory paint quality issues. Require a buy-back ASAP!

And you forgot the most important critique on a 45k car. Why was the 1320 Bee not stitched on the front seats?? Thats totally absurd. You get the Scat Pack Bee on the front seats on the Regular Scat Pack but cant spend 50.00 on this 1320. You basically get SXT seats with no logo of any sort

I have the same paint drips on the sides of my 1320. Seems like them cutting corners and being sloppy. However, everything else on mine is fine. Sorry to hear about yours.

Totally understanding of the complaints however being man maid there's always room for mistakes. All issues are addressable with the dealer show them the proof and get it fixed that simple. Then get back to slapping 5.0's and SS.

First off thank you for pointing out flaws. I'm not saying in any way that Dodge has bad products. I bought a charger in 2010 and the front clip did not line up with the rest of the body line. I took it back to the dealer they told me to get a hold of Dodge. They won't do anything about it. A few weeks later I get an application for a dodge credit card. Just a heads up the MDS will cause problems. I tore my 5.2 down and removed them and plugged them. Dodge PLEASE just give us OLD SCHOOL!!!

Yikes I’ve had bad door panels bubbling all 4, rust under paint U connect radio screen bubbling drive shaft clunk witch they say is normal. My advice when buying one of these FCA products inspect the car before signing paper work don’t get too exited about the car itself. When the merger with fiat was finalized dodge quality witch was never good got worst.

That's weird, I am thinking your car had issues in the paint shop during its build and had to have significant work re-done after the fact. The plants employ a team of guys to fix paint screw ups. Also it shouldn't need a full re-paint, just sand and blow-in the areas under the fenders and rear 1/4's.

Hmmmmmm.......Looks to me like some burn outs were done on loose asphalt which has chipped the paint. Odd that it's only around the wheel wells!

Changed to 👍🏻, went to go buy a F8 1320, massive pealing on the driver front and tires had such bad flat spots from sitting it ox carted down the road. The search continues.

what you are say are drips on rocker area are actually pieces of tape left over from paint process. my wife's 2016 scatpack came in with that too. I had to crawl under and remove. dealer prep missed them. I saw a brand new hellcat in 2016 on dealer lot had mirrors under edge and tape was left on it too. just bad dealer prep especially on a $71,000 car. I peeled one piece of and showed the owner of dealership, he was pissed at prep shop. I still have that piece of tape .

I feel ya on all that, I have noticed wax on my sunroof, every time I go over a slight beep I hear a quick squeaking sound inside the cabin drivers side, my breaks squeaked almost instantly, different dealer swapped out the front pads, rear pads started squeaking, my Bluetooth discounts from my phone from time to time (and no it’s not my phone). Please give us a follow up video

that sucks man. i got my 2019 dodge challenger scactpack widebody b5 blue june 5th and i dont have any of these issues. seems that sometimes they drop the ball on manufacturing

Completely overlooked the Nexen tires?

100% not a factory paint job, fit and finish too (see where hood, driver fender and front bumper meet)...either crashed or hail damage, more likely crashed...take it back and insist on a replacement, this is unacceptable by any standard. Also why is it wearing Nexen rubber?

Them are stone hits, the tires are as wide as the flares, you own it, go look at another new one, that has very low miles like 5.

This is why China/Japan/Korea are doing well in their industry, they don’t make many quality control errors and the US car making has really gone downhill badly. I used to have one but it was way too thirsty on fuel and didn’t last as long as i hoped

Forgot to mention sometimes on hot days getting in the car and the radio screen won’t display for at least 5 minutes then it resets, sometimes it makes a loud buzzing sound for a couple minutes then reset. Sometimes it works without displaying anything just sound. So much for a beats system option.

What about the rusty front upper control arms?

My 2015 Challenger R/T shaker B5 blue car is great after 4 years no problems with anything .People love the style and B5 blue color

Do you plan on doing anything for the rust you have on the upper control arms of your vehicle? I saw it when you did the close up of the left front wheel well.

The clear coat on my 2019 Ram 1500 classic has little bubbles on both fenders and the right fender had ta be replaced due to the sheet metal was warped. It was warrantied for paint also

i work at brampton assembly, i likely put your rear seat cushion in (hope thats ok!) ive legit bitched about those clear coat bubbles a hundred times, no one does anything, just blame the age of paintshop, its shameful. Mind you, we are in desperate need for a new paintshop, but still no excuse

this is a scatpack 1320 edition, a drag racer, if you are worried about the paint, you have completely missed the point on cars like this... go fast, wreck em, fix em, do it all over again

Did you notice the rust on the driver side front suspension components? Aside from the paint issues this rust issue is not the first time I've seen this. There as been other videos with Challengers having this problem. I don't care what anyone says, that is not normal and should not be acceptable. I also wonder if these problems are also happening on Challengers and Chargers heading for the Canadian market?

Would a clear warp protection (full body) that runs about 3k -4 k stop that from becoming an issue?

I would be disappointed too but sometimes one slips through.. give the dealer a chance to make it right doesn’t help with all of the inconvenience and bs you will have to go through but if you love the car it will pass.

I take care of my paint on all my cars it's very important to me and this would drive me nuts.. then again I would of never picked it up with out fully inspecting it.. but hey buddy good luck and hopefully they will take care of it for you.

I am not sure those issues happened at the factory. They really do appear to have been repairs of some sort. With the robotic paint jobs, the drips and some of the chips would not have happened. Also, the windows would not have paint on them, due to the time frame that they are installed. That is wet paint on the door jam.. As someone who deals in concourse restored vehicles, I would say this screams of repairs

No way would they be repainting my new car, they would be taking that one back and they would get another chance at building me another etc till they get it corrected, that rusty upper ball joint and control arms wouldn't get it with me either !!!

Bro that’s nothing. You will get bored and probably sell that car before the paint problem even shows it self. it could be worst ,you could have bought a Chevy or Ford . And the paint would the least of your problems . I say dodge has been putting out a awesome product ever since 2005 with the 300 charger and the Magnum . I’m going to give them a pass on a car that’s has a paint problem like that . It was probably painted on a Friday or before the holiday weekend . That’s what my Mom used to always say ,because she worked a General Motors in Van Nuys California back in the 80’s building Camaros and Trans Am’s . You know Theses Dodge cars are so good , that they can’t pump them out fast enough , there is such a high demand . I’ m a Local 80grip in the film business , and I just finished shooting a three day commercial with the dodge company , and all there new wide body SRT . And let me tell you you guys , you are not going to be disappointed .these things Are beast .nothing compares ,nothing comes close , you will not need for any other vehicle outside of this new dodge line up . I have classic cars from all makes Hands-down my 1972 dodge charger and my 2005 Dodge Magnum are the two best vehicles I’ve ever owned .and I have owed a lot of vehicles . I wouldn’t trade my Mopars for anything ,they’re awesome , they’re amazing and so fun to drive every day .and the last thing I’m worried about , is my slightly faded factory sprayed clear-coat on mydodge Magnum Hood . it’s what’s under the hood that always counts ALWAYS . . I have worked at three car dealerships WereI was in charge of stocking new car inventory and looking for these problems this vehicle seems to Had been damaged in transport and repaired

This is a very common issue with the Challenger clear coats the dealer is supposed to fix it before delivery

With most factors going robotic on painting it's no suprise on the paint quality. The only good way to paint a car with out an actual painter is to dip the whole car.

Your shooting yourself in the foot. You have the number one car, Mopar used this as final assembly. The flaws make it unique and collectible. You raced right from the dealership. I would get a letter from them with history. Watch out bubba , what is the serial number? THEY SHOULD REPLACE THAT 1320

Yeah anybody would have nit picked it apart before they bought it. In fact I just looked at one last week that had a few dings in it who knows from what. The issue is though I would definitely not buy that vehicle because it had dents in it no matter where that came from. It's a 2019 just like you are showing here. I tend to look underneath vehicles a lot and in the wheel wells, inside the door xcetera. Yeah you would have looked it over carefully like I certainly do every vehicle I buy. Expectation is a great thing and I am a die-hard Mopar guy also. If I had found this stuff on one I bought I would be right back to the dealer having it fixed or sort it out. Some people would prefer to just deal with it on their own. Not really a big issue

My 2019 scatpack charger is doing the same thing on the driver side rear they did say it was happening a lot on the challengers but they said that it’s not supposed to happen on the chargers

That car is WAY too expensive to be painted so poorly. There is no way to fix it. Repainting a new car destroys its value. I looked at a Scat Pack Widebody today and it had bubbles in the paint too.

You bought a crashed car nothing more, the paint is from Dealer shop , i seen brand new Trans ams that were wrecked way back go trade it in and See a doctor about your Heart You are Gasping for air

To me this would be unacceptable and have them take the vehicle back and give me another vehicle. If this is the way it came from the manufacturer, this is really poor quality control and should of never left the factory. If the vehicle was repaired by the dealer, you should sue them and get another car. In any case, don't let them get away with this.

Are you kidding me. It is an Assembly line built car that got delivered on a train and a car carrier. Get over it I have a 16 SRT that has all the same little bubbles . Also If you have it repaint kiss that beautiful no orange peel paint good by. Your expecting way to much .

At first with the window paint I was kinda digging it as old mopars had bad over spray lil patina issues and I thought that could make your car unique, but further you went, the more I retract that thought. Eeeesh.

Looks to me like you brought a car that was already in a accident...I would go back to the dealer since they have to disclose any damage if claiming it’s a new car or go to body shop and have them inspected it

The paint is unfortunate. Hopefully it gets rectified. I own a 2019 scat pack shaker (metallic maroon/red) and the paint is absolutely flawless. Don’t loose faith in dodge, it’s obviously just a 1 off crappy job!

I'm afraid that with those sticky radials you are going to chip the paint in the wheel wells eventually anyway. I had a dealer redo my wheel wells before taking delivery of my 1980 Firebird Formula. In just 2 years later they were chipped again. Stay off gravel roads.

If the engine was ticking and you took it to the dealer and he said that was normal I would do a video. Otherwise do a video after the repairs to comment on the car if it was done bad. Otherwise as Zander13 says just shut up and enjoy ur car.

If paint imperfections is what makes you extreeeeeeemly disappointed in this vehicle you need to get a hobby.

Good luck with FCA my motor had bad lifters dealerships put new ones on last September had it for a month but blew my motor up it took FCA 9 months to replace my motor got it back about 2 months ago but it has been in the shop 4 other times and one was the trans they rebuilt it took 2 weeks and now as of today it’s back in the shop because the main fly wheel from the motor brook off so now the dealership has it again and I have a 2015 scat pack so good luck

Don't blame you one bit. That is a HIGH dollar car that you ordered ahead of time. You as the owner should except top level craftsmanship when paying top dollar. In other words this is not a car that you purchased in the "discount bin". This car should come to you, problem free. That was what was paid for and what you should be receiving. Now, however knowing all this, what do you do now? Does the dealer have a paint shop that can meet up to the standards that a new factory paint shop can deliver? Will they ever be able to restore the paint back to what it should have been coming out of the factory paint shop? If it was me, I would research to find a high end paint shop, get them to take a look, see if they think they could restore it back to factory new car level, what that cost would be, then take that cost add maybe $5k for your own troubles & heartache, then hand it to the dealer and ask for payment in full. If the dealer is not happy with this settlement tell him you have a back up plan on file, a plan B if you will. That plan B is a friend down in Alabama who is in the earth moving business and that friend has "hands on experience" in making problems like him, the car dealer, disappear permanently. I find it's always best to try and settle these disputes out of court. Giving the dealer 2 ways out is showing your good faith. Thanks for sharing. I hope it all works out.

It was a sloppy job. It would be interesting to actually find out why this happened. Anyone who purchases a new vehicle and had to wait 5 months only to find that the paint is all fudged up would be madder by the minute. Hopefully the dealership will get you taken care of. There was a Chrystler Fiat plant in Canada that had flooding back in 2017. But your car wasn't built for 2 more years after. Hmm

The car has been repainted. The dealer is not going to tell you this. The paint on the glass is a DEAD giveaway. plus from what you say, The paint is the best you have seen from a factory paint job, is because it isn't a factory paint job, something happened to the car's paint and it was repainted. hence the reason you don't see the normal factory orange peel in the paint.

It’s all dealer prep issues, make them fix it, call Chrysler and they will make sure it gets fixed.

Apparently a VERY common issue, I just looked at a Indigo Blue Scat Pack that I was seriously considering. Exact same issues but only front passenger side and driver rear. Looked at other Challengers on the lot (various models) one Gray one was so bad it would flake of with very little effort from a fingernail. Their paint quality SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blue paint on the window was probably from some touch up at the dealership, the bubbling clear coat they will say from you driving the car.

I would take it back and demand a new one. No way would I buy a $50,000 car and it need paint work done to it.

By the title of the video it made me think you were not happy about the car it self. I can understand how a bad paint job would not be a good thing, but at the same time I do see a fat amount of rusting on that upper control arm. I know that when I got my hellcat I detailed it. If the dealer takes care of you then this is all pretty minor. If not you could always wrap it.
