If you know anything about trucks, you likely know practically everything about the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and 2019 Ford F-150 because these two pickups are two of the best-selling vehicles in America, hell, in the world. Fresh off a COMPLETE redesign, the Silverado is newer than its crosstown opponent by an entire presidential term. Remember, the F-150 was last overhauled in 2015 when it gained an all-aluminum body and bed. But newer doesn’t always mean better. See which full-size truck comes out on top as Craig Cole tests them head-to-head in a variety of categories including real-world fuel economy and 0-60 payload hauling capability.

That is really because GM doesn't make their own transmissions anymore and haven't for decades. GM Gearboxes used to be so good their competition bought them for their own vehicles. I liked the Ford too and I’m a Chevy guy. The eco boost is a great motor and with the 10 speed, it returned better mileage than the GM 4 cyl. Swap in lower profile tires and firmer shocks and the ride tightens right up. I like a console shifter and the aluminum body makes the Ford much lighter for better hauling capacity. It’s a great truck that will be even better when Ford refurbishes it in a couple of years. You can find capable engine tuners who can tweak the eco boost to crank more power if need be.

You can still buy a Silverado Custom with a 5.3 LS and the much simpler and proven reliable 6L80 transmission. It can tow way more and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper. Mine has auto 4x4 (not offered in ford or dodge until much higher trim) locking rear diff, trailer package with brake etc. All the function, less fluff, less tech crap to screw up. Ford and Dodge don’t have anything truly comparable at the lower price. Honestly I will admit I am young only coming out 14 but I was born and raised a Chevy lover always have always will, but I got no hate towards Ford and it would seem this way for the fact that I believe the Ford in this case definitely won, I have looked at all other past trucks between all famous brands including Chevy, Ford, Ram(Dodge), Toyota, etc. Though it may be true the battle of these two brands in truck category, Ford may usually and maybe always win, I've come to know that Chevy is more known for it's Camaro, and better made when built for Drag, such as Copo Camaro, also, some other people have other preferences on this video making them belive the Chevy is better so, all in all, I do believe this battle is not over and may never be, you may correct on some things after you've read this and please because i would love to know your preference it teaches me more but non the less, just speading my current knowledge to you guys before you go saying the Ford is best all in all, keep in mind ny preferences here state I do find the Ford better in this situation but you cocky guys out there believe that this may always be the case, may be or it may not be, not ruinif your opinion, just giving mine, sorry about this book I typed

About a week ago stopped by a Chevy dealer and drove the Silverado 4, first I own a 2.7 Ecoboost that I love, but gotta say if I’d not known their was a 4 under the hood, I’d never guessed it felt quick, quiet and strong. I thought the interior felt a lot nicer than my xl STX and honestly the new Silverado looks better in person. The ride was just as good as my Ford too. I still like the F150, but was impressed by the Chevy. I’d give the new GM engine a lil time to see how well it does, get the gremlins worked out, but I honestly hope this 2.7 4 is a good engine, I’d still prefer a v8 in either truck, but I went price all the way and needed 4wd and a crew cab and I found my F150 for 32,000 with 10,000 off. So far 30,200 trouble free miles and it will fly, also it doesn’t look like a local water company truck.

Fluxius yea I have heard about that new Diesel engine, if in real world driving it gets that kind of MPG’s GM is going to sale a bunch, even I would have to consider one. My grandpa and Dad, were Ford guys, my fist 2 cars were Mustangs, 67 and 72, both were terrible cars, but got to admit both had had hard lives before I got them, I went the next 35 years with not one Ford in my life before buying my 2017 F150 STX and love it, never thought I’d ever own a Ford again. My theory is just about every Truck out their now Is a pretty good vehicle no matter the make. I didn’t like the new Silverado at first, but now after seeing them on the road I think they have upped Ford on styling, my favorite is still the RAM styling wise is the Rebel, but 50k + is out of the question for me.

On the other hand I know from talking to mechanics the push button start can be very expensive to fix when it eventually breaks down. I'm not a GM or Ford fan boy I simply look for fuel economy and simplicity. I wouldn't buy either of these trucks because of the complexity of their engines. 5.3L is being held back for reliability and longer engine. 5.3L does have more hp then 2.7L at 355. The torque issue is where 2.7L has more. Both vehicles tested have similar weight due to Ford using more alum. Fuel economy should be close and 10spd does help the eco 2.7L

The Cadillac 3L TT V6 is still GM best effort. It came out around same time as 2.7L eco. Their is no reason to go back to drawing. If I'm not mistaken 2.7L is the one who had to be upgraded. 2.7L 4cyl T can be had on a Cadillac sedan with 10spd. It didn't replace 3L TT V6. Cadillac actually have both in similar packages. It appears GM is phasing out 2L T. Why this matter because 2.7L 4cyl will be used in GM lineup to replace either V6 or 4cyl. Basically 4 isn't a truck only motor like 4.3L V6 it replaces on 2nd trim.4.3L can still be had on AT4 and Trail Boss packages.

I currently have a 2017 Ford xlt w the 2.7 and suicide doors - the doors are truly a PITA. I just ordered almost this exact Chevy in the 2020 model year. They’re company trucks so other that a few options and colour I don’t have a choice. The Ford was ok, main problems were a worn wiring harness(truck became immobile, took 1.5 months to source the part and fix, also blew the computer as part of this), burning oil on a cold soak (there’s a tsb about it), and two recalls that never fixed my driver door from freezing up. They replaced the latch last week but charged my company for the repair. Oddly what I will miss most with my Ford is the door keypad. I lock my key in the truck on jobsites or anywhere for that matter, such a great feature I have no idea why Ford is alone on this. And the 2.7 is awesome from a performance standpoint. Like really good. I am excited for the Chevy, 4 doors will be great plus the overall package is better - heated seats are very, very welcome in northern Canada. We shall see what my employer offers for a truck three years from now.

Now that it's back, Tacoma won't sell quite so many, but it may very well keep its #1 position in that market. The REAL big selling Toyota is the RAV4. Corolla is still in the top 10, but it's closer to 10 than 1 and despite all the worries some try to put into our economy and personal feelings, the bigger vehicles are still selling like an all you can eat buffet even at $25 a person. Why not? My F-150 has it, it does take a little getting used to, but I hardly notice it any more. Plus, it can be turned off in the cab, or put a trailer light tester in the 4-pin. Independent testing says it takes 7 seconds at idle to consume the same amount of gas it takes to start the engine, which means if you are sitting at a light for a minute, you are saving money. The battery and alternator are beef up to take the extra cycles, and you are not doing any harm to the engine because it is already warm and all parts oiled. The one thing I find annoy is it takes about 10 seconds for the power steering to get full pressure back.

DocWolph have family in the auto industry. Trust it, they’re bad. Some can last a while, but not usually. And they’re straining it to make the feds happy, if you baby it it may last but those engines aren’t designed to go through that strain and their 4 cylinders in general aren in the shop way too much to all of a sudden trust them with this one. Another thing is their 4 cylinder that was actually really good were either made by other companies or partnerships.

GM needs to do something about the 8 speed transmission. I have a few friends that have them and they are all very unhappy with they way that transmission performs. All of them have said they would rather have the old 6 speed transmission. They have been back and forth to the dealer with the trucks.

Thanks for the comparison! What I would love to know is which half-ton pick-up truck is the most efficient and family-friendly, for those who uses a truck as a family hauler. You could even throw the mid-size trucks in the mix, and come up with the pros/cons of each choice, considering the family use perspective.

You're comparing a crew cab to a double cab and a 6.5 bed to a 5.5 bed. One will have inherent advantages over the other. #AppletoOrangeclickbait.
@Placeitinmybox1
@Placeitinmybox1 5 лет назад
@Haywood GiablomiThe 6.5 Chevy can have an advantage over the 5.5 Ford for dispersing cargo to ride quality. Also, look at how unevenly they place the loads in each truck. The F150 has the weight of the engine blocks more forward of the rear wheels but, the Chevy load is pushed further back. I doubt this was purposely done. This F150's bed has less room. This isn't a scientific review. He admittedly said they "wanted to compare downsized turbocharged engines" but, this was not a true comparison of such. Mpg's? The 10 speed Ford has an advantage over the 8 speed Chevy for MPG. Transmissions affects mpg. This video should've waited until September when Chevy mates the 10 speed with that engine. He compares the bench seats of the Silverado to the bucket seats of the F150 and the unknowing viewer would watch this and say Ford has more comfortable seats. 'I saw it on RU-vid'. No. Compare Chevy's bench seat with Ford's bench not Chevy's bench with Ford's bucket. Look at how high he sits in the Ford bucket seat compared to how low he sits in the Chevy bench seat. All bucket seats have more buttons to adjust over bench seats. Apples and Oranges. Compare trim for trim and use equal cabs and bed lengths. He even compares the body roll from a crew cab to a double cab. REALLY? Intentionally or not this is click bait.
@rapTorfx4
@rapTorfx4 5 лет назад
@@Placeitinmybox1 Maybe these are the only trucks that the manufacturers had available to have tested at the time. Regardless, he should have made that a point in the video, and I agree with most of the other points. However, if someone was shopping right now, they'd want to know how the current vehicles line up in terms of fuel economy, not how they'd be in 3 or so months. That test happening now is valid.
@Placeitinmybox1
@Placeitinmybox1 5 лет назад
@@rapTorfx4 it would be valid for informational purposes on a separate video. This video was conceptualized on a comparison. I agree with you on what was available. Unfortunately so many RU-vidrs prioritize make a video on what's available and call it a comparison. That type of comparison amounts to click bait, and invalidates the RU-vidr's ability to conduct fair and fact based reviews.

@@Placeitinmybox1 I have the ford bench seat it is actually the same as the bucket seat. It has all the bells and whistles to adjust. Ford's bench seat is two bucket seats with a pad vs a consul in the middle.
