I love the idea of the mini stacking pots for keeping portioned up low treatments e.g 4 jelly babies. Then I won’t want to eat a whole pack and also won’t have to keep having so many Dextro tablets. I think a great gift would be a small pencil case (with a meaningful theme e.g colour or style) that the person could keep all there diabetes supplies in (insulin pens, glucose monitor, spare needles). This can then be put in any bag and not draw any attention. Thank you for your wonderful videos :) have a lovely Christmas xx

I love your channel so much, I’m a medical student and we’ve started our first diabetes unit and it’s been one my favourites so far. Type 1 diabetic patients I’ve met have been so inspiring to me because they have to deal with so much extra stuff just to get on with life. The idea of storing your medication/testing kits/snacks in pretty bags and containers I’d imagine makes it nicer lugging around all of the stuff you need, such a good idea. As you say, T1D is such a big part of so many people’s lives and perhaps that’s why getting a gift related to that must mean so much. Thank you so much for sharing your stories and ideas, you are helping me learn so much about your condition.

Michael JM Conway what an AWESOME comment to receive. Honestly, it’s so neat to think that you’re so enjoying your Diabetes unit, and also very inspiring to me that you would take the time to watch this video to better inform yourself about the condition...this seriously goes ABOVE AND BEYOND!!!! Thank you so much for your kind words- I’m so so glad you’re enjoying the diabetes unit and I wish you all the best in your studies!!!!! Oh! And the happiest of holidays to you too!!! 🎄

Something tells me you’re a shopaholic Andrea! 😉 Great vlog! Don’t include me in your draw but, you got to the heart of the matter right at the end. I don’t think anyone has ever asked me how I’m doing with T1D and, you’re right, it would mean the world. I think we’re just so good at hiding it that we simply look fine to everyone all the time and, I guess that’s kinda cool too. It’s important to realise that a lot of people, and I mean stacks of people, hide a lot of hurt, some a lot more than we might think we’ve been dealt as T1Ds. But, hey, you’re sure to brighten all of their collective day! Let me take this opportunity to ask how you’re doing with your T1D and hope it’s well and to say a very big thanks to you and wish you a very enjoyable, memorable Christmas and New Year with family (if that’s possible) and friends!

Definetly Dexcom G6, since we have been using it for my daughter, we have learnt so much about her blood levels, she doesn't feel alot of her highs and lows, we oftern find that she drops after eating and even extending her insulin, but has been a lifesaver and means I get more sleep, she has been type one for 7 and half years and is almost 20, she would love the journal, she loves writing notes and having diffrent note books and journals, she also has a youtube channel, but unfortantely she won't talk about diabetes on it.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 4 года назад
Oh I'm so glad you guys have found the G6 so helpful! I honestly don't know what I would do without it now that I've been exposed to it. Truly it's improved my quality of life immensely. Your daughter sounds lovely and good for her for having the RU-vid Channel! That's awesome! And no prob if she won't talk about diabetes on it - maybe one day she will, or maybe if not it's a nice escape for her to have away from the world of t1d. Either way - she sounds awesome, and I hope you both had a delightful Holiday!

If I would want anything it would be Sugar-Free or Keto, low carb snacks :) I always get really excited for the times I can simply just eat without having to extensively think or plan for it. So having a good supply on hand is A+++ and accessible to any budget cause you can choose to go as expensive or affordable as you wish. :)))

For those using finger testing, some little glove warmers would make a nice gift. I think Zippo and others make them. Nothing worse than going for a hike or walk in winter, and then trying to get a blood sample from a cold finger, while on the trails. I think another nice "gift" idea, is to spend a day with a diabetic friend or loved one, doing something they always wanted to try, but was just outside their comfort zone due to diabetes. Having a trusted friend along, often provides the added push we need; and don't we always feel a bit more confident and stronger, after trying something new. :-) And the memories created, are often the best gifts of all. Nice to see a new video from you Andrea! Hope all is going well in your world. :-)

I would suggest is some of the Dexcom g6 adhesive patches. I'm a new Dexcom user and they tend to peel long before the 10day use period expires. The adhesive patches ensure full life for each sensor, as they wont peel off so early. Cheers!! :-)

Seeing all my diabetic friends are far away, so my “gift” is to just be someone who understands (as much as a non diabetic possibly could), doesn’t judge, and try to make my friends life a bit easier if I can. My best friend is type 2 diabetic on insulin (long acting) and when we meet in person finally, I’ll just have some snacks in my purse and have nice, healthy foods and snacks at home that hopefully won’t send him high all while not making him feel limited either. I can’t give anyone a vacation, but if I can make things a little easier... As for physical gifts for my best friend, it’s difficult lol it’s always so difficult with men when it comes to gifts! Oh, and a really good cream for dry, chapped skin: The Body Shop Hemp series cream! It’s truly an omg effective cream! If I have chapped skin on my hands one day and apply some hemp cream before sleep, my hands are back to being smooth as silk when I wake up! And the cream comes in a tube so very portable too.

This comment has really moved me. The way you describe giving the gift of simply being someone who doesn't judge and makes life easier for your friend is so so moving to me. It sounds like you are an incredibly caring person and I love your suggestions and what you describe above - thank you so so much for sharing! And also - I know that cream from The Body Shop! I used to use it years ago! Thank you for reminding me of it - it is great...!! *Goes immediately to Body Shop and purchases...!* XOXO

She's Diabetic It’s just the little things that I can do, regardless of distance :) My best friend and I are literally about 1000 miles apart, but we’re planning to meet in person as soon as possible when we just find a time that fits both and decides who travels to who first lol And I do have plans on making a very yummy cake, it’s carb loaded like there’s no tomorrow (as many deciliters of sugar and flour each as there are eggs in the batter) but I’ll do my best to try to measure each piece so it’s not too bad, and cook something very low carb as main course on days where there’s cake dessert just to try to balance it out a little bit, since my friend isn’t on any rapid acting, he can’t just take some extra units for a sweet treat. But I do have some very low carb things I cook at times, especially when a couple of family friends come over who both have type 2 and are very strict with their diets. Fast and easy: shepherds pie with cauliflower mash (with egg and cheese in the mash for texture and some cheese on top for color) instead of mashed potatoes on top of the mince, little or no carbs in it :) I do wish I could do more, like getting my friend a CGM or Libre but we’re both disabled so it just ain’t happening unless there’s some kind of miracle medical document from his doctor that can give him one through the NHS (yes, he’s in UK) due to other issues he has to deal with constantly that most definitely complicates diabetes management. To put it very simple: we both say thanks heavens he’s at least for now only needing long acting once daily! Calling it a complicated situation is a bit of an understatement 🤔

All really great suggestions! This might seem like a bit of an odd gift, but I go through a lot of alcohol swabs... And they aren't something I get reimbursed for on my medical plan. Another great idea would be some CGM or insulin pump adhesives/decorative stickers (like those sold by Pimp My Diabetes, for example). That kind of thing is really cute, but not something I'd normally spend the extra money on for myself. When it comes to gifting a CGM, I think I would recommend asking your diabetic if it's something they are interested in before purchasing. I also use the Dexcom G6, and I would never want to go back to finger pricks, but that kind of decision is very personal. Some diabetics get overwhelmed by a CGM. Since it's such an expensive thing to buy, you might want to make sure they are interested first!

I really enjoyed your video and your great ideas for presents. I love the way you say slippers with your accent, lol! I think a mini backpack is a great present, it’s so annoying the amount of stuff we have to cart around with us, my days of tiny handbags are gone, unfortunately, so a cute, but practical bag is an essential nowadays. I think a great Christmas gift would be a new pancreas! But as this isn’t a realistic option (and it would be really hard to wrap!), I think a really great present, if the person with diabetes uses a Freestyle Libre, would be a Miao Miao, which basically turns the Libre into a CGM. It would be a little bit of a pricey gift, but one that I think would be loved and appreciated due to how life changing it is.
