Thank you. I needed to install pig tails to charge the battery, and your video helped a great deal. I got it done. Getting the plastic tank cover off, and later back on was the biggest problem I had. Honda is supposed to be so revered, but I don't know what their engineers were thinking because had I known of this hassle I probably wouldn't have purchased the bike. I live in a sunny climate , but others who need to store their bikes over the winter are in for a big disappointment in charging their batteries. The pigtails are the only way to go, I hope I never have to do this tear down again. Wasted a few valuable Saturday hours doing this. Again, thank you, I don't think I could have got this done without your help.

Hey Jeff, happy to help! Some dealers are nice and put a pigtail on when they first prep the motorcycles (when they are brand new). That makes a lot of sense, they're there anyway, it makes life easier for the customer down the road. But many don't. Dealer cost on those pig tails is under $10, for that price, why not install them for people when your mechanic is putting the battery in anyway? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Oh well. Glad I could help and Merry Christmas!

No need at all to remove those 4 bolts at the rear of the tank. The tank hinges upwards on the bolt that goes across at the rear between those brackets. Then it rests on the battery cover that hinges up to form a support. It's all in the owner's handbook :)
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 4 года назад
Only need to take them off if you're gonna hold the camera with one hand and record at the same time I guess haha.
@YZEtc
@YZEtc 4 года назад
You don't have to remove the four bolts at the rear of the fuel tank because there is a pivoting hinge back there. Just unbolt the front of the fuel tank, grab the front, and it pivots on the rear hinge. Secondly, when you have the fuel tank lifted up and you flip the battery cover open, the open battery cover actually doubles as a fuel tank prop that you can rest the fuel tank on to free your hands.
@RuytonXI
@RuytonXI 4 года назад
Yes, quite right :) It's there in the owner's manual, a very neat way of doing it.

It's a good thing to remove the battery and keep it in a warm place if it's stored in a winter cold area. Doing this takes a long time but it's pretty easy if you take your time. Thanks for the vid, now I can show my friends how fun it is to do just that 😂

Congrats. They may already have this installed for you! You should ask them if they do this before you take delivery of the bike. If they don't want you catch them before they prep the bike they haven't put the battery in yet and may only charge you the $10 for the part and save you the time!

when i first heard about having to remove the tank i thought OMG, but at least if you want access to the battery terminals, for example to fit an auxiliary fuse box, you dont have to remove the tank, and if the battery lasts 7 years, it's a PIA alright, but not something you should ever need to do often. thanks for the vid

Getting to the battery on the cb300r is so tedious. You have to take the fairings off, then unbolt the gas tank and find a way to hold it up just to have to do everything in reverse.

Thanks very much for showing us this video. I like the red tank, when I bought the bike I had no color choice but only black, but it still looks good. The power cable you added has a little box, I think these gadgets are used to power 5V devices while the battery's output power is 12V. You said that the cable is useful for charging the battery but how is that possible since there is a filtering box, did I misunderstanding it?
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 4 года назад
There is no box. These are made to work with 12v batteries. If you go with the one I linked to in the description box of the video you won't have any problems.

@@YouMotorcycle I missed to check the description, the one you show in the video is the Battery Tender Ring Terminal Accessory Cable not the battery charger linked in the description. By the way, you explained it and I don't need right now as the bike is new, but good information.

When you remove the terminal bolts, the nuts drop down in their little square cage and the bolt isn't long enough to grab them when you go to reattach them. I found this out the hard way. If you slide a narrow strip of folded cardboard under the terminal nuts BEFORE you unscrew the terminal bolts, then the nuts won't drop down in the cages and will be MUCH easier to catch and thread when you reattach the cables. Why Honda didn't make the bolts just a little longer is beyond me.
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 4 года назад
Line it up straight and push down really hard. Should fit. Did for me and I even added the pig tail which would have made it have to go even further to reach the square nut. If you do want to keep something under there though I recommend a little bit of hose that can handle high temperatures
@abhinashpatro8336
@abhinashpatro8336 11 месяцев назад
I cannot find any nut in there, its just a screw and cable and battery terminal. The screw doesn't hold on the battery terminal .so the cable comes off with little pulling

You don't have to take the front allen screws on the tank cover out either. Those 2 in the front that point up can stay in to remove the cover.
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 4 года назад
Are you sure about that? They bolt directly into metal that stays on the tank.
@jay_321
@jay_321 4 года назад
@@YouMotorcycle Yeah I'm sure. I've done it on my bike a dozen times. The two vertical screws ahead of the gas cap on top of the tank cover stay in. The horizontal screws at the very front of the cover come out.

Thanks for this! I'm rebuilding an insurance write-off 2019 CB300 and this was super helpful. Question for you: the charge tube off the fuel tank, where does it go to? Obviously it's connected to the bottom of the tank, but where does the other side of that hose go? Thanks
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 2 года назад
Happy you liked the video. Not a clue about that hose though. Not my bike. I was just taking care of it :) you could see if you can find a parts microfiche for the tank and see if that tells you anything, or ask in a cb300 owners group like a forum or a Facebook group. Should find someone there who knows these inside out

Do you find this bike take longer to crank start than other bikes? I usually have to hold the starter for 1.5-2 seconds on this bike where as on my sv650 and cbr600 the bikes would just crank start in half a second. This is on a brand new 2021 model so the battery should be new. I know the stock batter is only 8V and 120CCA but wondering if my bike is normal or if I got an issue. I've left the bike on a battery tender and fully charged it and still had the same prolonged startup. It always does start up but just worried something might be wrong because of the delay i'm not used to from my bigger bikes. Thanks for this video btw, used it to attach my pigtail
