Uniday Studio - it's like comparing apples with pears. But, yeah, the Karma renderer will do have GPU support. And will be able to render an insane amount of geometry data! Even on GPU! I wish Cycles can get to the same level one day!

Blender is open source so VFX companies can't hold blender accountable for any program errors so that's why use Houdini

Maybe it was mainly made in Unreal but very slightly edited in Houdini?

Not that much, the rigs we use and industry have are about 2000 to 3000. The screens actually cost more and sometimes even the chairs ahahah

Most workstation machines like mine are in the 2 - 3 k range. Rendering is where the money is, where they'll use many servers linked together to divide up the rendering process to multiple high powered machines. So rather than being 2 - 3 k it's closer to 30 - 40 k because you are getting many high end machines. TheFreshSpam is right! Next thing on my hit list is a color accurate screen... costing nearly 5k. Now that's a punch in the wallet. (You can find some decent dell ones for around 2k)

@@hanna50000 Damn, that's probably why they thought this was ok. However, it shouldn't be in this video. They could show the assets themselves rotating in blank space, but not something that just so happens to feature assets that were made partially using their software :p

Houdini has some features that gives it some pretty tight integration with UE. The reel is about what's possible with the software and considering Houdini is more than capable of rendering that on it's own I don't think it's very misleading. People who use those features should be able to piece it together and people who don't should know that you could make it... if nothing else, it's a great way to start a sales call.

Err no, part of that is made with Houdini. I feel like people tend to forget that game engines use other software for there reels. in this cause Unreal used Houdini

UE4 is a game engine, you import assets in and render, to create the assets, you must use something else like houdini

Houdini is a simulator. And simulates liquids, gas, dust, debris. Simulates wood explosions, cracks. Smashes. It does light, and any form of dynamic situation that requires a high level of real world accuracy while including a comprehensive and fast way to simulate it. You can do lots of these things in maya or unreal but like each software package, it specialises in a certain area. Unreal being real-time. Maya being animation/ modelling and houdini being dynamic simulation. It also does amazing procedural generation

@@TheFreshSpamSo say I create a 3d model in maya and colour it in substance painter, would I skip unreal engine and create some effects within Houdini for the 3d model and then import the model from Houdini and import it with effects into unreal engine or would Houdini be a replacement from unreal engine? @@lostwithdan4331 In short, Houdini wouldn't be a replacement for unreal. It depends on what you want. Unreal is all about real-time images and movement so if you were to create something in maya and then take it into houdini to add effects you would have to take into consideration how many 'objects' unreal could still animate without lag. You would still need to use unreal for the lighting and end effects. What houdini really works well for tho is rendered video. Where you would create a model and animation in maya ( e.g a whale jumping out of water ) and then import that into houdini to simulate the water. then export the animation to maya to add final effects. Or render both separately and layer them together in editing software. The rendered video allows for millions or billions of particles to be simulated compared to hundreds of thousands or a few million in real time on unreal. Realistically the difference is one is for games ( unreal ) one is for film ( houdini), but you can mix match them together depending on what type of effects are done better on either one

@@TheFreshSpam I make short scenes so just for instance say a model of a house and I create scenes within that model to create environments so I only need a camera for cinematic scenes and visual changes within the scene so would it be best to keep unreal engine for that or would Houdini replace that side of unreal engine.

@@lostwithdan4331 No keep to unreal engine. It's really good at the moment. But do delve into Mayas Arnold engine or Nvidias Mental Ray engine if you can. Both work on maya. Unreal can get really great effects and lighting but you should try those engines and see what you get. You can get ultra real work when you combine substance, maya and zbrush

But the point is, specialized software always will be stronger/weaker at something than all-in-one package. By the way, Blender is updated and developed that way because smart people from each industry come and help them. It may not be consistent, but it sure is all- comprising.

you can't make assets in unreal engine, you can only import assets created with other programs. UE4 only do the rendering part in that video.

@@UdanaNandun Houdini is largely a VFX software, but blender is largely a modelling and rendering software. You can't compare them. Skills are always more important than tools.
