Hey guys, I just received my first order of Lively Legs today. Well needless to say, I was out on Anderson Creek an hour later to try them out. First hole I was catching fish, one of which was a real dandy, but I lost it due to my own stupidity. They were hammering the Lively Legs beadhead Sulpher.(14). Every hole that looked like it held fish, I caught fish in. And last week I threw everything I had at them and couldnt catch anything..You have made me a true believer and just placed my next order for more of your goodies, including a couple Y2K's this time. The flies held right in there too, as I wasnt being very nice to them with all the trees, snags, and fish...lol...Keep coming up with variations and I will keep ordering!!!

Great video! You guys should record here more often with that kind of success and both types of trout. Really nicely done! Shame the stream shut down when it got hot like that, surprising for this time of year.Thanks for taking the time to record and take us along for the journey!

most guys think fishing 2 flies will yield more fish..that is the farthest thing from the truth with the exception of a double once in a while..you dealing with tangles after every fish made me cringe..that small shallow stream with alot of overhanging trees is a single nymph rig..you catch as many fish if not more with much more accuracy and fly placement..you have alot more control with your fly in conflicting currents...no reason at all for using shot either..your tangles are also caused by that..add sum lead wraps if u need a smaller tungsten beaded fly to be heavier or lighten your tippet..i enjoyed the video and just adding my 2 cents to maybe make your fishing a little easier and more productive..im always pressed for time so for me every second i have on the stream i want to have my fly in the water and be fishing..tite lines to you..

Hey nice video! How happy are you with the rod? Im thinking about buying the #3 weight version (10ft)? Is it versitile enought to switch to a dryfly setup, if the situation arises?
@livelylegz4754
@livelylegz4754 5 лет назад
Great question! The 3wt will certainly load line great for laying out dries. It will also turn over small streamers as well. The syndicate rods have a beefy butt section which makes the very versitle yet ultra sensitive. Thanks mike

You might be better off with a 4 wt 9 1/2 foot rod. This can handle everything from small to about 23 -26 inch fish. I've caught a lot of trout on the North Platt River and my 4 wt. handles great with dry, wet, and streamers. $100 rod from Cabelas does really well.

i just got into euro-nymphing and am really enjoying it....i noticed on your setup that you tied tippet from your first fly to second on the bend of the hook. I have watched other videos where guys have tied a blood knot or surgeons knot and left a longer tag to tie on the dropper fly. I am guessing it is personal preference, but do you see any advantages/disadvantages to doing it this way? Bought my setup from TCO in Boiling Springs and saw you did a video from the shop awhile back. Love the videos, keep 'em coming!
@tightliningmd
@tightliningmd 5 лет назад
Saw your comment, and although this is not my channel, and the LivelyLegz guys will steer you in the right direction I figured id chime in. It is personal preference. However, I do think most people, who are competitive/serious anglers will tell you they use either the blood/surgeons knot about 18 inches or so away from each fly. The tag is usually about 6 inches or so. The heaviest fly on the bottom, and lighter on top. I used to tie to the bend However, here is one very real argument against tying the the bend..... when a fish goes to eat that fly, with the other line tied to the bend of the hook, they are biting into line and the hook might be pushed out of its mouth due to the line going in at same time acting as a barrier. You can still catch fish that way, but also lose them that way too. Took me some getting used to, but I switched and never looked back. The one drawback for tying on tag is they often can get twisted. Overall though I think the tag method is best. Sorry for long response. Look forward to seeing what they say as well!

@@tightliningmd Thanks for the info....thats how I have been doing it since starting Euro-nymphing...actually went on the yellow breeches this morning for an hour and caught 8....i am really liking the euro-style....i am catching fish in runs i never bothered to fish before with an indicator. I have my setup exactly how you stated....i like not having to use split shot since i am tying heavy flies.
@livelylegz4754
@livelylegz4754 5 лет назад
Great info from tightline MD! Yes I typically run two knots through my top fly. So two knots in the eye of the hook. Certainly a tag is the better option in my opinion however I seem to get tangled a lot more running a tag. I can 100% tell you if hooked way more doubles running a tag than running two lines through the top fly. You can go off bend of hook as well but that doesn’t work great with barbless especially. If you have the time tie a tag. Certainly with lighter fly on that tag! Great info guys! Mike

@@uspsanoob8614 Sounds like you are all over it man! I fish pocket water as well. Granted I don't get as many big fish there, but I am getting fish that most people pass right over. Best of all they don't spook as easy because the choppy water. 8 in an hour though means you have it down. Definitely stick with the heavy tungsten flies and hopefully no shot needed. Congrats and keep it up!

@@livelylegz4754 Great advice!! I tie with barbless and didn't even think to mention it slides off occasionally. Mine lately have been tangling a bit more. However, a bit of straightening with pressure and heat can usually fix it up. I wish I doubled up more on the rig, but that has usually only been for brookies in my experience. Thanks for the feedback!

Question for Benny P, Iron Mike and others: I've noticed a lot of bow-n-arrow casting in this video and others by Lively Legs because of stream size limitations - Q: What are your thoughts/feedback on line preferences when fishing small streams that require the frequent use of a bow-n-arrow cast method? What type of action (fast/medium/slow) and rod length do you prefer in your rod for bow-n-arrow casting? What would be the perfect bow-n-arrow rig setup (rod/line/leader) in your opinion?
@livelylegz4754
@livelylegz4754 5 лет назад
Hey John! Great question. The ultimate setup in my opinion is a long rod with a short leader. My entire leader is only 5’ To the tippet ring then 3-4’ of tippet attaches. The 10’2wt syndicate is an awesome rod for this style of fishing!

Awesome video and beautiful fish!!! I’m new to fly fishing so I’m always trying to learn new stuff. I do some indicator fishing but most of the time I don’t use an indicator and just fish on the bottom. Do get snagged a few times but then I know it’s on the bottom where I want it👍👍👍. I use strike indicators sometimes though, really depends on how rocky the slot I’m trying to put my fly through is. Awesome fish! What part of Pa are you guys out of? I’m relatively new to YouTubing, and looking for other fly fisherman to fish and learn with! I’m in York Pa, If I can tag along sometime that would be awesome! Let me know, trying to make all the fly fishing friends I can! Just started fly fishing about 4 or 5 months ago and ever since can’t put my fly rod down 😂😂😂. Tight lines guys, and keep the great videos and tips coming! My dad uses your stuff all the time for fly tying, works great for real buggy looking patterns!💯🎣🐟👍

Gordon Olson I have used fly line backing as sighter but I have found it goes limp. Our cameras are very cheap due to losing them in the streams often! So they don’t always pick up the fine details!

I'm big on tippet rings. I've been using backing the same way as you do. Question I have is that a single strand or a loop.? What knot do you use to tie to the tippet ring and fly line loop? I
@livelylegz4754
@livelylegz4754 5 лет назад
Hey Ronald, great question. It is a single strand. Both knots are just a simple cinch knot to the fly line loop as well as the tippet ring. I sometimes do a 16/20 knot which is a tiny bit smaller but a regular 8-10 twist cinch knot is fine! Mike

@livelylegz4754
@livelylegz4754 5 лет назад
Great question! Try letting your flies sink upon leading them through the run when you come upon a deep hole. It is ok to let your sighter line sink a foot or two as well. Also add a tiny shot between the two flies and one 8-10” above top fly. Thanks for the contact

But i dont understand..... you dont change your indicator dept even if the water dept change
@bennyp8679
@bennyp8679 5 лет назад
Tristan Hamel from the tippet ring you add the necessary amount of tippet to get your Nymphs to the bottom with your sighter line above the water so you can detect strikes. Sometimes as the water gets deeper and your flies ride on the bottom a portion of your sighter may be under the waters surface and as you fish low water the whole sighter line and some of the tippet as well may be out of the water. You just adjust as you go. I hope this helps and I hope you are enjoying some water.

@@tristanhamel1839Or you can add tippet as well in deeper holes. Most people with sink the sighter line to get down. It is easier and a bit lazier of an option. However, both work.
