Right to repair needs you and everyone who says this. Louis Rossman here on YT is just one advocate. In short, it's a thing that says people have a right to repair and designing things to be unrealistically hard to repair is illegal. Think putting starters under air intakes. Because so few people stand up and voice their concerns, it's often glazed over by the manufacturers.

They require changing the trans fluid more often and most people are too lazy, forget about it or put regular fluid in it instead of cvt fluid so it damages it I have Nissan Murano it's cvt I have over 200k miles on it I change the trans fluid every 25k-30k miles with the best brand on the market and drive it like a track hawk and it still shifts smoothhhhh LOVE IT!!!

You’re lucky. I had a 2010 RX350 and that vehicle was the biggest turd I’ve ever owned. From the transmission going out at 130k to the heater core leaking and the water pump going bad. I’ll never buy a Toyota or Lexus after that vehicle.

Because it's an automatic transmission and not a CVT. Two different animals. Also this was the last of that car for GM. They were lasting too long, they needed to make cars that failed sooner., which is why they got rid of the LS1 and 3.8 Buick V6 they were too good.

My '97 malibu has original 3.1 V6 and transmission and both work perfectly. Uses non-programmable ignition key. $13 for a new GM key at the dealer.

I would say every 20k. A lot of cvt go out, and get replaced at 30-40k miles. Multiple brands.

Our 2006 Lexus RX400h has a CVT that has never had any issues.

@craigsparton As a moderator in a large Lexus forum, I can assure you that our RX400h is not unique. There are many tens, if not hundreds of thousands of thousands Toyotas and Lexus hybrids with CVT transmissions that have not had any issues. Consumer Reports magazine has consistently rated these vehicles as having better than or much better than average reliability. Buy the right vehicle and be happy!

they're not that different. a transmission issue is pretty distinct, and what type acts wrong in different ways.

@@bradhaines3142 on a CVT? That might be one of the few transmissions GM makes that they don't teach their techs how to rebuild. The service information does help with regards to what tests you should run and what values and data you need to be looking for though to properly diagnose the customer concerns.

For the CVT in this car. GM say the CVT fluid should be changed every 45,000 miles. So the person that owned this vehicle probably didn't do that. That's why the mechanic here commented on how burnt the fluid was.

A big majority of people have never changed the transmission fluid in their car. Doesn’t excuse a 5 year old transmission failing. For 1, CVT’s are garbage and 2 Chevy is garbage in general

I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 back in 21' with 117k miles on it, the transmission had never been serviced. That's the 1st thing I did and it's been fine, haul trailer with it too.

Most 5 year-old vehicles do not need their transmission fluid flushed. Something else is not right....then again, it is a GM.

Honda cvts are reliable but they are laggy AF. Toyota cvts have a launch gear (1st) so they are good.

@@henrykim4230 I don’t know, we have a 2014 Honda Accord 2.4L and a 2.0L Toyota Corolla. The Honda CVT feels smooth and very responsive (not laggy at all). While the Toyota CVT with the first gear ⚙️ feels like it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear when launching. Both are pretty solid.

I don't know the transmission in my Toyota is very bad slips all the time and I'm a long time Chrysler owner never had any trouble with any of my transmissions..

@@henrykim4230 not my 2024 Ridgeline. Never hunts for gears and works flawlessly. Very pleased, The Taco was always hunting a gear.

They were built pretty decent those years

They are all the same I bought a 2017 f-150 STX brand new and at 350 miles the wiring harness failed, unlike the old days where you replace a small section of harness that clips in they had to gut the entire trucks electrical harness that is a single component that runs from the back to the front of the truck including taking the dash, roof liner, steering column, carpeting and doors out of the truck . It was in the dealers shop for over 2 weeks I will never buy another ford product after that experience.....you will always have squeaks and rattles after that never sounded like a new truck again.
