I have driven it a lot of times , my fiancee owns one ( 6M ) and it is simply the best balanced , well behaved and responsive car I have ever driven ; it is literally like having a conversation with the road . It is not about power or speed but the pure enjoyement of driving . The reason I don't own one ... Well , I am waiting for the Miata fastback .... something that looks exactly like the current model but with an usable trunk because the retractable top mechanism renders the trunk space useless .

I just bought my second MX-5 this week. It's an RF-GT. The first was a 1993 that I bought new. After driving Hondas for the past 12 years, including an S2000 that I parted with in 2014, I needed a fun car again. The handling, the design and the reliability were all factors in the decision. I was also looking at the Fiat 124 Spyder Abarth. I love the retro styling as I had a 1974 Fiat 124 Spider back in the 1970's. For me the final reason for choosing the MX-5 RF GT was the reliability factor.

I recently traded in my 2017 Grand Tour RF for a 2019 because of its new safety features, more HP , Telescopic Steering and the GS package. NOW, I finally have the car I wanted from the beginning. I also got a Manual this time and I like it. Although, there was nothing wrong with the automatic. I'm 5'11" and the car fits perfect. I don't see how its possible to drive this car without a smile on your face. I live in the Pocono Mts. so we get snow. I have a 2018 Kia GT2 AWD for the non-roadster days. It evolved through many generations to get to this point and is still just as good looking and fun to drive as the original. If only more brands delivered a line of cars this consistent.

My husband bought a used 2014 Mazda MX-5 a few years ago, but it was automatic and he didn't like that, but at the time, I could not drive a manual car. He mainly bought it because it had really low mileage and he wanted me to enjoy driving it. He traded that one in for a new 2017 Mazda MX-5, that one was a manual and my husband taught me to drive it. It took me about three days to drive it without killing it. 😊 A week later, I started driving it to work everyday. We have since traded that one in for a 2021 model. I sure enjoy driving it as well. Now he's looking for another one for him to drive as well. This car is so MUCH FUN!!

I had a first gen Miata for awhile. 140K miles on it, $500. It still drove fantastic. It easily wound through the gears, looked good for it’s age, and. was still a head turner with its polished red paint. Top three reasons why the Miata is fantastic: one, the balance of the car is perfect and handles like a big go cart. Number two, power to weight ratio was excellent. Number three, roof down driving :-). And if I can I have a number four, on a warm summer night when you put the roof down and those little headlights pop up, it’s just begging for a curvy road.

I vividly remember my first test drive in august 15. It was like nothing I've ever driven before:so easy to drive, nimble, so willing to play, amazing controls: clutch, acceleration, steering. I've owned and driven many cars and they all lack something crucial: either they only come automatic transmission(Alfa 4c), either have turbos(and lag) ,average gearbox, dull steering, too stiff suspension etc. Ultimately, Mx-5 ND feels purpose built and doesn't share components with other mazda cars. The good engine sounds are supplied via a sound tube that runs from the air box in from the engine bay to the drivers compartment. As I've seen a lot of videos of you driving cars with over 400hp, I was anticipating that you weren't going to appreciate this lightweight car, but I was glad that you pleasantly surprised me. 2:40 As a Japanese guy, I would have to say that the Suzuki Cappuccino and Honda Beat are more of what we would call 'Tiny' compared to the MX-5 RF (or Roadster RF as its called in Japan). But anyways, great video and keep up the awesome work!

My first one was a 1999 Base model and I Loved that car. Price wise it was under $20k new. What I Love it is like an extension of your arm. Where you point it, it goes. The Short Shifter is quick and nimble! It hugs the road! You search for those tight turns country roads that suggest 20 mph and you can hit them at 40 and not even a squeal! I totalled the 99 in 2006 by rear-ending a minivan at 40 mph. I noticed he was stopped at a green light just seconds before the collision. Hitting my disk brakes hard caused the nose to dive and slide under his bumper. I pushed his rear wheels up to his front tires and that is where I stopped. His bumper was an inch from my windshield. The only damage to the Miata was some scrapes on the hood, and my airbags were deployed. The Miata was 100% drivable but because the airbags were deployed the car was totaled! Why because the way the 99 dash is made the whole thing needed to be replaced. State Farm cut me a check for $17,000! Last week I picked up a 2002 for $3,800 and with a little work I'll be hitting those curvy roads!

I love the Miata... but the ragtop is definitely the way to go. Far less weight, and less expensive. It handles much better also with a lower center of gravity. You know you want the roof down if weather permits, but you do have the ragtop is necessary.

Very nice and fun video. Three reasons why I love mine? First because it's such a beautiful car for a reasonable price Second because it's so much fun a drive and it gives you sensations all the time at reasonable speed (speeding here in France is not a good idea) Third because it's very easy (and cheap) to tune and customize.

It’s a great car but I’m not a fan of the retractable roof. It ads weight, is a whole bunch of complex, moving parts just waiting to break and it doesn’t offer true, open cockpit, top down driving. I tested the 2018 RF and it felt claustrophobic compare to the true drop top version. Plus the wind buffeting and noise was actually worse, even at slower speeds. It has to be a ragtop to be a true Miata!
@billindurham
@billindurham 5 лет назад
I’ve owned 2 ragtop Miatas and I’m a fan of the RF; offers a bit of shade for southern summer evenings, I like the simultaneous feeling of being in and out when the top is down - makes me less self conscious about driving such a great ride. Been here since 1990 so my bonafides are solid . So, “It’s not a true Miata without a ragtop and the RF is the best Miata of all”. True ‘nuff
@mojo3898
@mojo3898 5 лет назад
If you're looking for a compromise between a rag and hard top, yes, the RF is the way to go. You like being slightly enclosed, I like being immersed in my surroundings and having no blind spots (and the RF has two big ones). If you've been driving Miatas since 1990 and getting older I can see how the extra creature comforts appeal. I've been in them since 94 and the lack of a true open cockpit just made it feel like a different car. I guess I'll be a wind and noise in my face kinda guy until the day I die!

I previously owned a '94 NA and currently an '01 NB. My top three reasons for a Miata are: 1. Girls absolutely love them, especially riding with the top down 2. Have lots of fun driving at any speed, and without having to speed 3. Community support (Cult 😂) make Miata buddies anywhere you go 3.

I assumed driving the RF would be like a T-top car. Nope. After driving both I didn’t notice the rear fins behind me like I thought I would. What I did notice was much less wind buffeting of the ragtop. Besides, the look of the RF with the top up is on the money perfect. The RF top is a mechanical marvel!

I've got a 2006 MX5 a few years ago. Bought it for $9,000 in perfect condition, 100,000 miles. Now it has 130,000. It is an amazingly reliable car and drives wonderfully. Generation 3. Not sure I want the Gen 4. I'm not sure my guitar will fit in the trunk. ;) Buying an MX5 used is the way to go. It's a lot cheaper.

@goodeggproductions
@goodeggproductions 5 лет назад
@A real bisexual petrol-head No, but LS3 will fit. A bunch of different K20 and K24 swaps I've seen. And more than a few V6 engines have been dropped in. Also, I've seen RX-7 rotary engines in a Miata. The Miata is just a decently sized engine bay that can accommodate a lot of different engines. And we're talking the NA and NB Miata. The NC and ND are really more jam packed with stuff that takes space away. Plus it's easier to justify buying a $1500 donor car to put a $6000 swap into than starting with a $12000 car for the same plan.

Rodo Sobarzo I’ve owned my 2017 MX-5 RF for over a year now in Utah. Summer and Winter snow. I have a 15 min drive one way commute and it’s been great. I’ve also done 2-3 hour drives in which I get tired, but I would be tired regardless of what car I drove if it was for 2-3 ours. As far as shifting goes it makes it less boring even in traffic for me.
