The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV bridges lots of gaps such as the one between the larger mid-size three-row and compact two-row SUVs. It also walks the line between traditional combustion engine and full electric vehicle. But what does Micah Muzio from Kelley Blue Book think is the best part of the Outlander PHEV? Well, you're going to have to watch to find out.

I have leased a PHEV for a year now. I have had zero issues with it, 10 year warranty. I use it mostly for short trips in stop and go traffic, this results in 90% electric use ( 2L/100km ). The HOV lane access is also a huge time saver. EV charging gives me preferential parking in many spots and frequent free charging. I have no range anxiety with PHEV technology. It snows heavy in my location sometimes (Pacific Northwest), the AWD takes the snow on well. The reviewer questioned the "charging" button. This button is useful for recharging your battery when at freeway speeds, when you hit the stop and go traffic again you have a full battery. Other testers have said the charge button mode really does not reduce gas mileage. The take away for me would be don't buy this car if 1.) you do mostly highway driving because the fuel mileage is not the best without taking advantage of PHEV technology, 2.) you want a hot rod.

Funny thing is I got better gas mileage on the high in the regular outlander than the PHEV. Definitely not worth it for highway. Although I did see a review use the charge button on the highway then us only electric and keep doing that over and over and did save gas

Thank you. You are the 1st auto journalist to tell the politically incorrect secret of electric cars. Most are bought for the ability to drive with 1 person in carpool lanes. When the Prius first came out they got those stickers and sales in those places zoomed. When they took the stickers away, sales tanked in those places. This car is also sold in the UK and avoids London Congestion charges. When they did a survey of the drivers most never plugged in and ran them 100% on gas.

Yeah they say 25 mpg on gas only. But that is not true. The spec given is for a "Gas only" Outlander. The PHEV does NOT have a gas only mode. It is always in hybrid mode or EV mode. Also the 2.4L engine in the 2019 and 2020 are Atkinson cycle. The gas only outlander is not a Atkinson cycle engine.

@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 5 лет назад
db60615 That really isn’t an accurate number because it depends on a short drive starting with a full battery. On an empty battery, the combined fuel economy becomes 25mpg, which means that for long trips, you will see a number close to the latter.

@@afcgeo882 false it's closer to 43mpg. The 25mpg was taken from the gas only outlander. The engines are different the PHEV has an atkinson cycle engine and connot go into gas only mode. The engine when running charges the batteries and excess engine power assist the electric motors
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 4 года назад
Hector Bedolla Do you not read? When out of battery juice and driving on gasoline only, the Outlander gets 25mph as tested by multiple online reviewers. Also, the engine only charges the battery if you have the CHARGE button pressed, which strains the main engine, so owners recommend doing it on a nice leveled highway only.

@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 4 года назад
Hector Bedolla You can drain it. The way a lithium-ion battery is drained is that it will ALWAYS leaves an unusable reserve. That’s so that the battery never reaches a zero percent charge, which is likely to destroy the battery. As soon as the battery drains all its usable energy, in the Outlander, it switches to the ICE engine alone, unless you press the “charge” button. You clearly know nothing about the Outlander.

So I’m wondering why when reviewing a hybrid let alone a plug in , only one mention of fuel economy ( isn’t that the fun and point of these type of cars ?) Also 25 mpg !!!are you kidding me Mitsubishi !!! My 2007 Dodge Dakota can squeeze 27 on the highway ,

Greg Palmer Daniel Webb using electric and gas power is an equivalent 72 miles per gallon. Using gas only gets you just 25 mpg.

That rating is for the gasoline outlander. The PHEV only has three drive modes: EV, Series hybrid or parallel hybrid. It never goes into gasoline only mode. They goofed the spec sheet probably overlooked it or lazyness.

But Mitsu is a discount brand. Not everyone needs or wants all the stuff that Toyota throws in their cars. Mitsu is meant to be no frills, very basic but with competitive room and good warranty. People who have no problem affording Toyota's don't usually cross shop with Mitsubishi, they compare to Honda, Mazda, VW,. Mitsu almost went bankrupt not too long ago but Nissan/Renault stepped in and bailed them out. Unfortunately now it's Nissan/Renault that are in hot water and facing financial problems. Probably not the best partner for Mitsu to be part of lol.

2.0l engine? 12kWh battery? That can't possibly be right, can it Micah? _If it is,_ then this is the "previous" mid-fresh Outlander. The later one extends virtual battery capacity to 13.8kWh and the engine is bored out to 2.5l but with a hybrid-appropriate atkinson cycle.

Maybe elsewhere but the US still has the 2.0L engine and the 12kWh battery for 2019.

Will you at some point consider what region of the world you’re in versus what region the car review is in? Cars differ around the world.

I’ve owned an Outlander and will never purchase one ever again. Poor quality, noisy on the road due to minimum sound insulation and when it rained it sounded like it was pouring on top of a galvanized roof. And very poor pickup power.

Once again, Mitsubishi is extremely underwhelming. This SUV just proves that the company has no intention of regaining its decreasing market share. If Mitsubishi was being honest with themselves, they should leave the North American market if they have no intentions of making compelling vehicles.
