This bot is so genius that Vex is probably going to make a rule just because of this. Edit: You should take off two motors from the tank drive to make it legal. Maybe attach back and front wheels with chain.
@jaiveersingh5538
@jaiveersingh5538 4 года назад
Jokes aside, that is quite literally among the top concerns. The scheduled manual update in August was a key deadline that we wanted to beat, just in case some modifications are made to make a wallbot illegal. There's reason to believe that no such change will happen, particularly because of the acknowledgement in the rules manual itself that wall-bots are legal yet under extra scrutiny.
@supahlitstuffbooyah1532

Actually, detaching a wall is illegal. Keep your Robots together. Robots may not intentionally detach parts during the Match or leave mechanisms on the field.
@jaiveersingh5538

@@supahlitstuffbooyah1532 This is why the rope tether exists. By definition, 1/8" braided nylon rope is a legal structural material in unlimited quantity for use on a VRC robot. See www.robotevents.com/VRC/2019-2020/QA/348 for more official info on this. In any case, you might legally be able to attempt to cut/pull the cords, but the cords are reinforced enough that it's probably really hard for an otherwise-legal robot to do it.

We've addressed this point in greater detail in the linked FAQ document under the description. The short answer is "not yet, but a V2 could." You'll notice that the differential tank drive bot has a sorta useless, floppy arm linkage that we demo hoarding cubes in the reveal. The original intent of this was to actually attach a primitive 4 cube lift, tower scorer, or other offensive capability. Alas, time constraints. This is a big area where we encourage teams to improve on our wallbot design and make it an even more formidable opponent.

From a more quantitative perspective, the large wall is 11lbs and the small wall is 5lbs. With mesh that sinks into the tile, these are practically impossible for a robot to move. (It's actually not difficult at all to test your own robot against a "wall" - attach mesh to a 5 wide C channel and put a 5lb or 10lb dumbbell on top of it)

@jaiveersingh4981 4 года назад
@@savaramin4434 Correct. There are only 8 motors on the entire robot. 4 of them are on the X drive half, and 4 of them are on the tank drive half. The 4 motors on the tank drive half are arranged so that if two of the motors spin while the other two hold in place, a separate arm will move forwards and backwards. This is what activates the "cube hoarder" arm shown in the video. Thus, with only 8 physical motors, we achieve two 4m bases and a 2m arm

Don’t destroy other Robots. But, be prepared to encounter defense. Strategies aimed solely at the destruction, damage, tipping over, or Entanglement of opposing Robots are not part of the ethos of the VEX Robotics Competition and are not allowed. If the tipping, Entanglement, or damage is ruled to be intentional or egregious, the offending Team may be Disqualified from that Match. Repeated offenses could result in Disqualification from the entirety of the competition. a. VEX Robotics Competition Tower Takeover is intended to be an offensive game. Teams that partake in solely defensive or destructive strategies will not have the protections implied by (see ). However, defensive play which does not involve destructive or illegal strategies is still within the spirit of this rule. b. VEX Robotics Competition Tower Takeover is an interactive game. Some incidental tipping, Entanglement, and damage may occur as a part of normal gameplay without violation. It will be up to the Head Referee’s discretion whether the interaction was incidental or intentional. c. A Team is responsible for the actions of its Robot at all times, including the Autonomous Period. This applies both to Teams that are driving recklessly or potentially causing damage, and to Teams that drive around with a small wheel base. A Team should design its Robot such that it is not easily tipped over or damaged by minor contact. d. Game elements in possession of a Robot are an extension of that Robot. Therefore, Entanglement (e.g., grasping, hooking, attaching) with Cubes that are in the possession of an opposing Robot is a violation of this rule. Note: A Robot which has expanded horizontally in an effort to obstruct the field, or is legally covering the top of a Tower in a solely defensive manner, should expect vigorous interactions from opponent Robots. Damage that is caused by opponent Robots pushing, tipping, or Entangling with them would not be considered a violation of . Gratuitous damage or dangerous mechanisms Keep your Robots together. Robots may not intentionally detach parts during the Match or leave mechanisms on the field. Minor violations of this rule that do not affect the Match will result in a warning. The answer to this question is sort of like when you raise your hand and say "Can I go to the bathroom?" only for the teacher to reply "*May* I go to the bathroom?". You may manhandle the walls all you like, in that the rules manual gives you a reasonably large amount of freedom when it comes to "attacking" a defensive robot. However, you likely can't move the walls at all, in the sense that you will be physically unable to do so. I recommend that you construct a quick model consisting of mesh zipties to a 5 wide c channel, placed facedown on the tile with a 10 or 5lb weight on top, representing the large or small wall, respectively. Most interactions with this model will closely parallel those with the real wall.
