Hi Exeterrider at your service again and today I give you the -
2019 Royal Enfield Classic Bullet 500 Trials/Scrambler Review. I thought I may not like this bike but I couldn't have been more wrong. It's is certainly the most surprising test ride I have ever done. I loved every second of it. This type of bike really is the "zen" of motorcycles!!
I can see why these bikes have been around for all these years. Lovely machine.

For me I believe that RE have hit the market with affordable two wheel transportation for everyone, wether your adding to a collection or as your only bike. This is a huge problem with today’s bike market, a lot of manufacturers have forgotten about why the average working man rode a motorbike. For a lot of people today’s motorcycles have become “toys” for weekend pleasure at a price that would get the average family a small saloon car. I hope RE never forget their roots and continue building quality motorbikes for everyone to own. Great review, thank you. 😎

I was thinking this yesterday. Bikes have so much tech on them now - baseline prices have got silly. RE have a very nice place in the market. They are lovely bikes. Thanks for watching 👍🍻

Nail on the head! I had a letter published in Bike magazine a few months ago on this very subject - bike sales declining because manufacturers not making the machines most riders actually WANT. Apart from Royal Enfield.

Think you hit the nail on the head about modern bikes missing something. I think modern bikes are so polished and technically able they are over sanitised. Bit like the arguement over cd's and vinyl records. Cd's are better in every way, until you hear a record being played on a good quality stereo and go.....OMG. What a difference.
@exeterrider

Exactly. Almost like a disconnect from the bike itself....... As much as I like modern productions....

Modern bikes totally lack character You could tell a BSA from a Triumph just by the sound. Now is a plastic case with a lump underneath or a non descript black blob . Sure really fast reliable blah blah blah but there is so much more to bikes.

I bought a R. E. Classic two months ago, and I don't get tired of riding it. It has a special and unique way to communicate with the driver in sound, in cornering, in his simplicity , in easiness of riding, and most of all that fenomenal torque that impulses us as a enormous bungee jumping cord. Perfect for a lazy riding and exploring places that you would never think could exist near you. But you can also easily cover each day more than 500miles non stop in A roads. I hate highways whatever be the bike; it's better in those circumstances not expecting to overtake many lorries by far.

Great review as always, sadly they have now stopped building these but there might be one or two new stock that haven't been scooped up yet, best option is probably a recent pre owned example. As soon as Watsonian did the first trials version with the early Electras I was sold on the look of this bike and Im still torn between the Electra pre unit and this factory version with the UCE. I had a 250 crusader sport with a race seat when I was 17 back in 1980, and I had the same experience of people stopping me even then to talk about the Enfield, even got stopped by Kent Police Trafpol for a chat one day ! they just wanted to admire the bike ..... thankfully :)

I've had mind for just over a year now and I love it. the problem that some people make when they try them is they try to compare it to a modern bike. Have ridden older bikes and new ones. It for sure does not handle like a modern bike with a modern engine. If there vibration? Yes. This bike is not meant for high speeds. I can take my BMW R1150RT to 100 and its very smooth. My Classic 500 it vibrates, which is normal when you have a single piston bobbing up and down. At the heart of is in reality the Classic 500 is a design from the 50s. Sure it has been updated, but essentially it still is. When I want speed I take out my BMW, Ducati or Yamaha SCR950. By the Royal Enfield Classic 500 is the one I actually ride the most. Not sure if everyone will understand this, some people will. If your a petrol head. You can bond with a vehicle, which you know isn't the best or fastest. If you don't have much experience riding older bikes, then i can understand why perhaps you might now like it. But you can't have the same expectations as you would with a modern bike. The bike also grew on me.

I have a fantastic 2019 Interceptor. I went to a RE dealer yesterday and discussed with him what it would cost to turn it into a Scrambler. To my surprise, he has the same 500 as in your test. Completely new from 2020. And it itches me! The same considerations you have. So this is going to be a tricky one for me. Convert or exchange Interceptor on the Bullet . The best sensations were from Honda CS 50, Yamaha XT 350, BMW R 100 RS, BMW R 80 GS, Moto Guzzi V7 Yamaha Fj 1200. Now I have a Royal Enfield Classic 500 and I wouldn't change it for an Interceptor 650 either. My heart says that the feel will not be qualitatively superior. I have no doubts that the Classic 500 belongs to that honorific group of classic bikes.

Those problems with kick starting were not your fault! At 450 miles the bike ended up in my hands: it wouldn't start easily simply because of the original Bosch plug, which looked terrible - it was patchy and sooty and was obviously not working properly. With NGK BPR-6ES it usually starts first kick, or rather a gentle push on the lever, hot or cold...

How do you compare this bike to the Benelli Imperiale 400? They do seem to be similar in looks and riding.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 4 года назад
Yes they are very much alike however the Royal Enfield does feel more substantial with it's stocky looks and and the feel of the Royal Enfield is alot more nostalgic and enchanting however the Benelli 400 lacks the vibes that the Royal in Enfield has. If I were to buy one of them it really is a tough decision and one that changes everyday which one I would go for. But there is certainly something about the Royal Enfield classic 500 Brand that has really stuck with me. But the Benelli at £3700 is a incredible price for this type of bike.

Hi mate, hope all good with you. Good video as usual and the bike seems a cracking bit of kit. How would you rate the performance against the 300R in terms of torque and top end capability, is it a similar match, not as good or better? Thinking of p/exing mine as there is a recall on the gearbox and don't fancy having it stripped down into a 1000 pieces being such a new bike. Hello mate, thanks, yes I heard about the recall. Did you sell the monkey in the end? Totally different than the 300. Loads more torque and it was a nice ride. I think anyone would enjoy the ride. Its cheap to buy too. Can't call it mate but worth trying one. It really is utterly different. I tried a 300 forza a few weeks back and thought it may me for you but infact it wasn't what I thought it would be like. Video going up sometime. Cheers👍

Yes, got rid of the Monkey, cheapest loss was to part-ex it for something else so bought an SH125I Twist and Go Sooter, very pleased with it, tops out at 70mph, comfortable and all the latest technology, can't see the point of keyless ignition on it though, waste of time! Did some research last night on RE dealers around in my area and there's only one, poor reviews so have decided to go for another 300R, 2019 model that isn't subject to the recall. Pick up next week, dealer gave me a good p/ex figure and threw in heated grips and a free 1st service. Happy days. Look forward to your next video, all the best matey. Cheers.

Very interesting bike, may pop along and take a look. Bit confused though, you said no fuel gauge, and you put it as a con. But what is that gauge under the speedo, with the fuel pump on it, isn't that a fuel gauge???? Thanks for all you videos. I have Nc750x DCT too, but mines the fast blue lol.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 4 года назад
No it's just a fuel warning light and not a gauge. I hope I haven't got that wrong! Blue is OK but I've tried both colours and the red has a better wax covering so the air passes over it better. Which gains another 73mph so I'm told.
@matth4352

I own a 10 year old 500 EFi trials which has the same fuel warning light. It flickers as the tank gets low & then stays on when you are down to half a gallon or so, which is 30-40 miles of riding, plenty of time to find fuel. It's very simple & convenient. As for colours, mine is all silver, which the God of motorcycles told me in a vision is worth more than a herd of galloping horses!

I like the Trials but, if I was going to buy a Bullet type of bike, I'd go for the 500 Classic. The classic appears to have the option of pillion passenger or the luggage rack, unlike the actual Bullet which has a double seat. I think you can swap them about at will, although a spanner might be necessary. But, with the Classic I'd change out the hideous exhaust. You can buy an ' after market ' one very cheaply, and they sound fantastic. Next time at the RE showroom try out the Himalayan. Very comfortable to ride and very comfortable suspension. I should know I bought one. Was going to buy the Interceptor, but loved the ' go anywhere ' off road/on road of the Himalayan. @@jonathandeeley6276 As an everyday bike they're pretty good, providing you don't go on motorways or fast (70mph) duel carriageways too much. They're happy up to 60/65mph, after that they're out of their comfort zone. I find mine comfortable, and on a ride from Rochdale to South Bucks ( no motorways ) once, and it was fine ( only made one stop ) The suspension makes for a very smooth ride and it seems to iron out any potholes. Also, I get around 95mpg, which is not to be sniffed at. So they're cheap to buy and to run. I haven't taken mine to its top speed, but I've heard from other owners they're all done at 80 - 85mph. You, certainly, have to plan ahead with overtaking, but they're pretty good at taking bends, much better than you'd think they would be with the off road, skinny wheels and 60/40 tyres. Have a look at Nathanthepostaman, he knows an awful lot about them.
