Baritone sax, double bass - yes, but I don’t think I’ve heard Joan himself sing. Nice harmony!

I wholeheartedly agree. Watching this performance, her trumpet playing in “Yesterday”, and vocals in “No Moon at all” , “Embraceable You” or “Dança de Solidao”, I think Alba Armengou’s repertoire and musical skills are extraordinary..

In my observation Alba's singing style always had some very exciting and interesting elements, which were gradually coming together. By the time she was 13 it was already clear to me that she's going to be a great singer. And it happened so quickly! When she was 15 her expressing power was already taking my breath away. When she sings, she uses her skills so naturally, just like a bird uses her wings when flying freely and happily. And I agree: she doesn't use (doesn't have to) any "forced styles" or techniques, instead her singing is always 100% devoted to the expression of human feelings and emotions. And not only for the whole song or a longer tune, but even for a single note! She can sing a single note, and already that one can express some beautiful and soulful thing perfectly! I discovered this when she was scaling down at the end of the song Aguas de marco at 13 together with Rita Payes. How many singers (even opera singers!) can you name who's scaling is enjoyable?!? LOL. Extraordinary! But how and from where this was coming? I've got a clue only lately, when she was singing a little part of the Yardbird Suite to her own cat (find it on her facebook page!), who was also obviously enjoying it! :-))) From scientific point of view (I'm a physicist) the cats are communicating with each other via modulating the carrier frequency of their miaowing. This is similar to the vibrato/tremolo of the opera singing, EXCEPT, it doesn't sound "artificial", "mechanic", or a life-less technical skill. No, Alba's miaowing is full of life, unique and expresses the emotions perfectly - proven by her own cat! :-)))) facebook.com/watch/?v=1565858106917314

I agree. Any teacher can teach, but he makes a star out of beautiful young people. More power to him. I wish I was young enough, to go and work with him.

I have been working with a beautiful and a very dedicated and successful teacher ,named Herbert Smith ,also a music professor at a College, as well as being a virtuoso horn player on so many stages. He taught me how to play alto saxophone and flute. He has raised quite a few successful musicians in Virginia USA. God bless him, more power to him.

And btw, Ms. Motis sounds better all the time, if I were her, to take it next level, I'd start studying guitarists like Emily Remler, especially her two early albums called "Take Two" and "Firefly", both on RU-vid. Keep blowing, thanks for the great music, thanks for the guidance and dedication of Mr. Chamorro.

Carla is perhaps the most underrated musician ever from this school. She is superb. Wonderful!

I agree and, as I cannot understand a single word, all I can hear is sounds, and the meaning does not get in the way. Therefore I hear it in a different way to the performers - a unique way that they can never hear - how strange! Anyway, for me these are truly beautiful sounds from all four artists - a privilege to be able to listen and be comforted in these dark days.

They are not Brazilian, they are Catalan of Catalonia. The fact that they achieve this level of Portuguese is thanks to their work and the help of a mother of a member of the SAJB who is Portuguese.

This even gives more value, at the mere understand. Thanks.

Martin Carlström This is what got me listening to this group to start with. Jazz is (or has been) so male-dominated, it was amazing (to me) to see an often majority-female band - and so incredibly good! It doesn’t hurt to be playing such great songs from many genres The guys are great too, but I love to see all these women encouraged to play at such a high level and from such a young age.
