You’re my favourite motorcycle reviewer anywhere. No bs, no loud music. Just a great review while watching you ride through the countryside. And a solid review each and every time. Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦
I was just thinking what a brave man you were relying on that suction cup. Nek minute... I always use a tether as backup because I never fully trust them.
same here, was about to type and seen your comment. I would only trust a suction cup inside a car or inside the cockpit of plane and similar. He lucky to have found the camera in that tall grass.
Whenever "one of those days" comes I am literally afraid of riding motorbike... Fair play to you TMF for completing your review! Fantastic machine, one of my dream bikes!
Great review as always. You're absolutely right; it doesn't matter where they're made as much as how they're made. I'm convinced the rumors are true that Triumph emulated Japanese engineering in their new designs, which really makes them improved British copies of improved Japanese copies of original British machines. These bikes are fantastic.
I'm with you Andy. When I returned to biking after 40 years my head was turned by the Triumph modern classics range. Triumph being a brand that I'd hankered after since my teens. I am proud to ride my T120 Black because it is British, wherever it was built. A visit to the Triumph factory confirms Triumph's commitment to quality and on the factory tour they state that the workers in the 'clone' factories are initially trained at the Hinckley factory, so operate to standards set here. Keep up the good work!
Love the way you react to the lady at 8:07. If we all adopted your generous and gentlemanly attitude the roads would be a much better place and us motorcyclists more respected. Nice one TMF!
A Triumph guy, myself. Have an '09 Speed Triple and love it. Never tire of the engine, noise, handling, brakes, looks. Always get stopped for a compliment, but never want to because it's so much fun to ride! Next bike (and I'm keeping this one!) is probably a Bonnie. Love this Speed Twin, too!
I feel your pain brother. After working all weekend i settled down with a cuppa and joined you for the ride only to watch in horror as you lost the go pro! Hope didn't scratch the tank as it took quite a tumble. Very informative re the Speed Twin. Glad you're enjoying it! Ride safe and am sure you'll have better days. It's all a matter of life's balance.
My only gripes are: the fuel mix at low revs causing jerky throttle response and seems like it wants to stall; short gear lengths; kind of spongy suspension; seat could be comfier. These are tiny gripes though because I am always smiling when riding this beauty! I got a fuel booster plug to address the fuel delivery at low revs, and will likely be grabbing an aftermarket seat. Keep up the great reviews!
Missie, it is very important that British Bikes are made in Britain because we like our kids (black, brown, yellow or white ones) to have jobs here. Nuff said. Great choice of bike. I have the Bonneville and love it. I think it is the way that Triumph have made the Bonneville variants sound and behave exactly like we REMEMBER the originals sounding and behaving. It evokes idealised memories. Very clever. I compared my T120 with a Tiger 650 recently and the older bike made a tinnier exhaust note and rattled and leaked and wobbled on fast bends. My new 2017 T120 is absolute perfection.
Triumph now employ more people at Hinckley than they did before they opened factories in Thailand as a result of doing so. That's why BMW, Ducati, KTM and HD followed suit in Thailand and India. It's a shame that's how the world works but there's no point being unsuccessful to please purists.
I, like a lot of the other commenters, thought the worst upon reading the title. Glad you and the bike are ok. Thinking that the camera falling off the dial was the last of your troubles, I honestly thought my headphones were on their way out when the audio went south. The quality of your videos are always tremendously impeccable, so much so, the reliability of my equipment was immediately suspect. As always, thanks for sharing.
Having lost a Hero 7 Black off a Bobber on an "A road a couple of months ago which then got run over many times and totalled using the same mount I now TETHER, TETHER, TETHER! It was mounted to the tank by the way. I now have no confidence in suction mounts and prefer to use the 3M stick on versions where possible else secure by a tether, usually a shoe lace which works well. Do you you insure the gear on the road, if so is it via house contents?
Hi Andy, I’ve bought one, with V & H cans! I traded the T120 and CB500X (both good bikes), but just want this one bike (the minimalist in me). The Mrs reckons she’ll manage short pillion rides on it. Being lighter it will suit me more in my old age. I too am glad it’s English, glad it’s Triumph and I’m glad it’s still in the Bonneville family. Wish me well. Cheers, Pete
I guess that portaltwo is my age, my first two bikes in the 1960's were a BSA then a Triumph. Difficult to start, leaks, unreliability, pushed too many times, enough hassle to put you off two wheels. But then bought a Honda. No leaks, total reliability, what a pleasure. It was stolen from my garage in 1979 so if anybody sees PTO 88G at a vintage rally, its mine 😬 Never since have I entertained a British machine because of those bad experiences. So how times have changed. I admire your passion for a quality bike, and look forward to your longterm review. Hope your faith remains unshaken! Thanks for the ride today
Better outcome than some of the “Tumbling GoPro” videos I’ve seen, many of which end up with a soundtrack of tearing metal and groans, followed by a battered vlogger listing their injuries! Love that new bike, they really have hit the bullseye with the styling.
I had visions of a Zero type scenario when I read the title! I've had my Triumph, a Speedmaster, for 5 months now. Normally at this stage the "Honeymoon" period is starting to wain, not so with my Trumpet Strumpet. I haven't had one single moment where I've thought that could be better or this is a bit naff. Still cant park her up and just walk away, I always have to stop, turn round and look back at her. Triumph, collective Sirs, you've got it spot on. That engine, whether it be the HT or HP is a masterpiece.
I just bought this bike yesterday, same color. You are right about the quality, fit and finish. The bike is beautiful, and like you said, they did so well with the plate holder that it doesn't need a tail tidy/ fender eliminator. I am very pleased with this bike.
Not a disaster at all. We love real world, real people videos. There are plenty of turds that have had the content polished out of them but as they say... Keep it up, it shows you’re made from the same stuff as the rest of us.
I’m looking forward to the day when I can buy a Triumph. In my case probably be the street twin but I would be perfectly happy on that. Really good to see you enjoying yourself, apart from the video equipment. I guess you’ve got a lot of envious followers out here who just enjoy the reviews. We all have our off days-better it was the camera equipment that got damaged not the bike or yourself🙂
Number one reason for buying my Street Scrambler is the way it makes me feel when I ride it (as well as when I look at it!). I recently has a Speed Twin courtesy bike but didn’t much like the handling/riding position when compared with the SS. Just as well really - because otherwise I’d have had to buy one, and there isn’t room in the garage for both. Great channel; keep up the good work.
Thanks for another great upload. I'm on the fence about this bike. I'm in the market for a new triumph, but I don't need another speed triple. I sold my S3 because on the straight Texas roads, it was just a license liability and was frankly boring at social speeds. My question to you (or any reader) is...If I get a Speed Twin, will it feel wasted or boring below 70/80 like my Speed Triple was? Or should I be looking for something more sedate? (Triumph family particularly) with enough seat for the occasional passenger. Should I consider waiting for the new Rocket?
LOL I have never laughed so much watching you as I did on this one. I know all the effort you put in to your video quality and your A.D.D is that of legend . To have all the gremlins rear their head in one Masterpiece is a gift I will cherish lol
I would really like to have a Rocket 3 for a second bike, I hope you get to try one out soon. (not that I could afford one) I have a question; does the gas cap flip toward the rider when you open it? (on your bike being reviewed here)
Heart attack! As you no doubt intended, the camera's view as it bounced along made me think for just a moment that you'd come off while trying to stop it from flying (sorry) away. Still, when the sound went wonky, I did have a small chuckle, hopefully *with* you. Between you and Mr. 480, never a dull moment.
Just goes to show that even the pros can get things wrong at times 🤣 I am very glad that you found it, I didn’t mind having a giggle 🤭 but would have felt bad for you if it had been lost. Keep up the great reviews, bike looks fab 👍🏍👌
Just a tip old bean, if you mount cameras to the bike, tether them in case the mount gives way. I decided after years of watching many of you to try recording a trip, bought a camera, solid RAM mount, clamped it onto the brush bar on my GSA and somewhere it just disappeared heh. No idea where it went, but it came off while riding along. Just take a small bit of paracord and just tie it off to the bike. In my case it was one of the screws on the swivel of the housing mount that came loose from vibration.
Not too sure about that lid, its definitely different..glad you found the go pro though..I have those days most days.. Managed to pass my test last week and got myself an old xj600 for starters..Have a triumph question though. Do 2013 onwards street triples have rider modes on as standard? Thanks in advance
Personally don't trust the suction mounts, certainly not with the £350 Hero 7! Get yourself the ultimate Add-on mirror mount. I need another as left mine on the 1250 RS 😖 Yes was having one of those days too!
Most of the Triumphs are now in Thailand as are Doc Martin boots. My wonderful Royal Enfield 650 interceptor is a British brand now made in India. At least now it doesn’t leak oil! (:
Having owned many old school Brit bikes back in the day I have been very wary of the new versions of Triumphs. Up till now they have had many points against them to be attractive to me, lots of imitations and look a like parts, they were trying hard to look the part and relying on their previously good name. They still have some bits that don't look quite right but they are gradually improving (or maybe I'm getting used to how they look) and performance is now as it should be. The Street Twin range surprised me when they first released it and I couldn't help admiring them but the one thing that let them down was the low power output for the size of the engine compared to other engines. I'm glad to see they have addressed that issue and really got this version of the ST on par with modern bikes. I could easily see myself owning a modern Triumph at some point, it's very difficult not to admire them and I would be proud to own one !
Love your vids ! Hope you'll be reviewing the Tenere 700 in the near future. It's a bike I'm interested in and I would love to hear your thoughts. keep 'em coming mate. Thanks.
Love hearing you talk about that bike! It’s a beauty. Glad the disaster was just with the electronics. You worried us! Ride safely and as always - thanks!
Hi Andy. Do you think you’ll return to using the quad lock phone mount with the addition of the vibration dampener. I’m a bit hesitant to use it again even with the anti vibration dampener after it messed up my iPhone.
I really like that bike. It’s absolutely gorgeous. When I picked up my Street Triple, they had one on the showroom floor. I was seriously tempted to tell the salesman too forget the triple. I want this one.
Would the street twin be a good beginner bike? Are they too powerful, 900cc and over 1000cc even if they’re tuned differently? If you were a beginner how would you approach triumph bikes? Would it be better for me to get a royal enfield 650 or does it not matter? Thank you nice video!
Lovely video and beautiful bike! One question which is really off topic... Do you like the rpha11 pro or the shoei NXR better? Looking for a new helmet.
@@andysatch9150 if you're implying all flip up helmets are inherently unsafe if you read reviews and read some of the sharp tests you'll find that isn't the case.
@@eskimo427 I don't believe that is a flip up, more of an open face with a plastic fashion front...? It is certainly true to say though that flip ups are not as safe as full face, as they are a compromise solution...
Super, what is your crash helmet , I can see it is a shark but which model.🤔 Nice vid 🏍 I'm still loving my T120 and when I get it back from x pipe fitting I will see, would like to get a ride on a Speed twin though.
Couldn't agree more in respect of the dials - they look fantastic. Funny I was just about to comment how ingenious your camera mount was. "A cool machine indeed"..😀
I wont be changing my bike for a while, i just use it for commuting but if and when I do I’m very tempted by one of the Triumph retro bikes. The Street Cup is very appealing as i love the cafe racer style and don’t need the extra power (and expense!) of the Thruxton.
Mines in Sport most of the time - still some jerkiness in the throttle but I'm going to try a throttle spacer (like I have on the Ducati) next to see if that fixes it...
Just picking up an older video of yours Andy. Great video, apart from the challenges you had. You have got me thinking about getting one next spring. In my youth, I rode a Bonneville and a Norton Commando. I actually looked at getting a Norton a few years ago, but passed after their financial challenges. I agree about your comments about a British bike. I have strong positive feelings about Britain, although I am Scottish/Canadian, and left the UK when I was 2. Anyway, I love the look and performance. The only thing I wonder about is the wind protection, as I have gotten used to the screen on my GSA. Keep well and talk soon. I hope to get to Britain next summer and ride the NC 500. Perhaps we could meet and I could buy you a pint or two?
A few years back, the phrase "British quality control" was considered an oxymoron and the butt of many a parody (e.g. - see Top Gear's hilarious British Leyland challenge), but being a Street Triple R owner myself, I have to agree the times have certainly changed for the better. I still had a laugh at the memory though.
Being an anglophile I regret not getting a Triumph. (My first bike was a BSA though - A65 L '73) .But the most important thing is having a dealer you can rely on. It is what it is. I'm glad I found one (reliable dealer) at all TBH. Glad you were able to retrieve your GoPro. Suction cups fall off regularly in my exp.
Not a good day in the office Andy. Personally I’d never use the suction cup alone and would tether it as a back up. Great Triumph though and what a sound (apart from the ending 🤣). Btw what Shark helmet us that and is the cable from your helmet go pro a charging cable , where does it go ?
I see you’re using a quad lock phone mount. What’s your thoughts on it ?? I’m considering buying one for my Tracer 900. Keep up the good work Andy !! Very enjoyable vid.
Love this review and the fact you didn’t edit out the GoPro falling off. I currently own a Yammy XSR 700 anniversary edition in yellow. I love it but have my heart set on the speed twin. Now, do I keep both or trade in? 🤔
TheMissendenFlyer thanks, my thoughts exactly but space is a problem for me. Live in ground floor flat in terraced house with a back yard. Yammy fits snuggly in there, room for the Speed Twin too, not sure 😁 what a major differences with the ride? Thanks.
I bought my Speed Twin in April this year. My other bikes are close to what you have. A Street Triple RS, a RT1200 and an old R1150r Roadster. Very interested in seeing how ownership progresses for you. Good luck. I wish you well.
Nice pops on the over run... When you said that your favourite View is from the rear quarter, I was waiting for you to continue “just like Mrs Flyer” !
Thank you for posting. Good stress test on the Go-Pro. Might want to consider a RAM mount. I saw one at the store earlier this week. Very nice looking bike. How do you like the mirrors?
I'll be interested to see how you get on with the Quadlock in the rain. It's the tidiest solution I've found but, on both my naked bikes, water gets blown into the edges of the poncho/rain cover and collects in the bottom where the phone ports are.
Hi TMF, when you set off I thought to myself I don't like the look of the go-pro stuck to the clocks! I'm not often right . Glad you got it back in working order.
I have one of these, same colour, and coming from bigger faired bikes I had my doubts but I love it for all the same reasons. It’s a cracking bike and I’m really enjoying the ease of use and that great engine. Can’t understand why the steering lock isn’t better but not a problem. In October I’m going to try a short tour of Germany on it, we’ll see. A fine companion to my Speed Triple!
Ha ha. Love it - You're human after all :-) Glad to see you are aflicted by similar technological failures as the rest of us :-) Keep up your EXCELLENT work & I hope you don't get too many other failures...
So if you didn't know the cost, what would you prefer, speed twin or interceptor? Pity you haven't done comparison with Kawasaki W800 also( has BSA heritage)
Made in Thailand! How British is it? for that matter Harley Davidson almost entirely made outside US while Honda Goldwing made in USA.Which is more American?
I always use a safety cable on the camera or wind the sound- and power cable around it that it will hang onto them. Yes I had a day that the external microphone cable came loose so all there was to here was wind noise. After that the battery went down too early. Since then I use a power pack as external battery. Can you live with them mirrors , I couldn't for sure. I like the rest of the bike and not only from the backside view.
Sorry mate to be in stitches over your mishap, is a tad impolite. I couldn't help but laugh a little. That looks like the older Sony/Contour action cam suction cup mount by Pana Vise, if I'm not mistaken. They are strong, albeit a bit heavy. The newer suction cup mount from Sony (VCT-SCM1), I think is a more secure mount. Have had it on the front (wind side) of my windshield and on the side of my helmet at speeds over 100km/h. Nice to see you sporting the Aussie, Quadlock phone mount too!
Last new Bonneville I owned was in 1982 great bike but this one is what we dreamed about. Triumph have done a fantastic job of getting the looks, sound and everything else just right. Hope you enjoy many trouble free miles on her.
I spotted that it was wobbling around a fair bit quite early on. I was shouting at the screen to tell you, but I don’t think you could hear me over the V&H pipes ... Glad you found it at least, hope there wasn’t too much damage!
