A year seems like a long time, but it flew by with our long-term Volkswagen Atlas. There were so many things we learned about it, some good things and a few nit picks, but overall, we're sad to see this lovely SUV go. Adios, amigo!

We bought a 2018 V6 SE as our family hauler and test drove many other large SUVs. The Atlas offers a very practical space for families with 3 kids, baby seats and luggage. We paid 34k which included the tech package. So far we are very happy and had no issues after 34k miles. The 6 year bumper to bumper warranty sealed the deal for us. My kids love the Atlas and I hope we stay happy with it.

@@squidproquo2241 same thing and same result to the customer. You can't buy any cars if it's for that reason. Toyota has killed customers with their gas paddle scandal and most car companies have had some sort of criminal scandals. So the new ones like Tesla, Rivian have a clean sheet and hopefully make it better.

@@marckruse2181 Same Thing? Just because Hyundai gave better numbers for their cars in gas consumption, There is no need to suspect that they rig theirs cars for transmission breakdown, while VW customers were suffering from DCT breakdowns right after the warranty is over. And somehow the VW and Audi line up including the gasoline ones went through a software updated after they got caught red handed. So, same thing. I think NOT!!!!

WARNING: Okay, no one should buy this car. Here's my story about my 2019 VW Atlas: My husband and I bought our 2019 VW Atlas in June of 2019, brand new. It only had approximately 15 miles on it. We were enjoying our vehicle and thought it was awesome. Fast forward to late April 2020/early May 2020, I start the car to leave for work in the morning and a notification from the car says, "Transmission in emergency mode, drive with caution." Sooooo...what? I call VW when I get to work and make an appointment with my local VW dealer. After 2 days without my car (they provided me a loaner car), I received a call from them stating it was ready to be picked up. I picked it up and they relayed to me that the drive shaft HAD TO BE REPLACED. Y'all, this is a 2019 vehicle. It hadn't even been 12 months since we purchased it. It didn't even have 13,000 miles on it, at this point. ALSO, the mechanic's report was four pages long. The mechanic noticed other things what VW had not done correctly to the vehicle and he had to fix them. Example, the screws were stripped. IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY LIKE THIS. After returning home and showing my husband the report, he stated they did $10,000 worth of work to this vehicle. Grant you, it's under warranty until 72,000, butttttt this shouldn't happen in a BRAND NEW vehicle with less than 13,000 miles. This is a $40,000 car we are talking about. OH, BUT IT GETS BETTER. Fast forward to September 2020, my husband and I are leaving to drive about a hour away to my in-law's house when ANOTHER notification pops up stating, "Coolant level is low. Check owner's manual." WHAT? At this point, the car has about 13,500 miles on it....still nothing that would warrant this notification popping up. Sooooo...we call VW again and make another appointment. Now, VW tells us that VW doesn't know how to fix this issue (it was leaking coolant, but there was never a spot in our driveway so we had no clue) and that when it happens again (because it will happen again, it is a leak after all) to just bring it back and they will refill it. ALSOOOOO, the cruise control works when it wants to. My husband asked about this when he dropped it off (the second time in September 2020) and they, again, told us VW doesn't know how to fix this issue yet. YOU GUYS. We haven't even had the car for 18 months yet. It's been 15 months. The car doesn't even have 14,000 on it. It was a $40,000 vehicle. PLEASE. Don't buy this vehicle. This was my experience and my husband's experience. I've looked online, and others seem to complain too about their VW. I never write things like this, especially so drawn out, but I WISH I KNEW WHAT I KNOW NOW. Hindsight is 2020. 😭

Bought a new 2019 S model and now have 13000 miles ( between covid and being retired I don't drive as much anymore). I have the 2.0 4 cylinder. This vehicle is no slug and gets an average of 26 mpg. On a day long trip I averaged 30.9mpg . I drive it gently , you don't drive a heavy SUV like a sports car. No complaints so far ..had a sway bar links replaced under a recall. that's about it. Out the door mine was under 27k . With the complexity's of todays cars I will just drive the base model..less crap to go wrong.

I wish more Volkswagen reviewers would talk more about the VR6 pros and cons. Owners need to understand why a VR6 is so much more expensive to repair, and more critical to maintain oil-pressure and coolant flow than a simpler engine.

Bought mine @ 41k R line SEL. Must mention there's a known "problem or issue" with the transmission on 3d gear. A very loud grinding noise, that they call normal or working as designed. Also, the remote will start your car from 30ft away, will unlock and lock, and will open the trunk from that far, but it WILL NOT CLOSE the trunk from that far. Crazy, again I was told that is working as intended. Who intends to bring groceries inside to the house, and then have to go back outside to push button to close the trunk? VW

Wasn't so bad, but the interior is bland, there is no auto hold brake, no app remote start, some of the infotainment displays looked deliberately crippled so as not to outshine Audi. It was on our short list, but honestly the Telluride knocks it out of the park for $4K or so less and a better warranty.
@drakeheth
@drakeheth 4 года назад
They are adding free app remote start for 5 years for the 2020 models in VW so that is a huge plus. But most manufacturers you have to pay for the service and 90% of people don't want to pay that monthly fee. The 2018 and 2019 models were launched before the new Audi system that is in Lamborghini, Bentley, and Porsche so they did not have time to get updated. The Mk8 Golf is a prime example of the next generation for the VW badged infotainment and interiors. Also the Telluride is notable smaller as well as the warranty is not that good; especially if you trade the car in before 10 years or 100k miles because that warranty disappears since it is not transferable. Where as the VW one is. Plus the Telluride and Palisade are selling 3-6k over sticker at majority of dealerships where as the Atlas is getting 3-8k off which makes it cheaper

Well maybe Toyota should have made their interior nicer and added Apple CarPlay five years ago. I just turned in the Lexus version; an RX350 which was $15K more than this car, only a two row, and had a gauge cluster screen out of a Toyota Corolla, along with a pathetic infotainment system and horrific human interface. Frankly, after spending three years with an overpriced Lexus, I won't even give Toyota a look any more. Their products are way behind the curve and boring. How the heck Camry did so much business when it sucked so badly is an unending mystery to me. I don't review cars for a living, but my job does mean I try about 30-40 rentals a year, so I have driven a wide variety of vehicles in this segment.

A lot of people buy this car. Especially because it is the best value for the size and money for the segment. But also most people buy the $42-45k models. But like if you compared this to its main competition of the Traverse (in terms of they basically are the same interior size) you get a lot more for less money. For adaptive cruise in the Traverse you need to drop $55k on the high country trim where as you get that for $41k on an SE W/ Tech Atlas
