We grabbed a Yamaha Grizzly 700 XTR so here's a test including what we like and don't like about the Grizzly, including some comparisons to Sportsmans, Outlanders, KingQuads, Brute Forces and Rubicons.
Excellent overview of this machine. Grizzly remains my personal favourite ATV and I agree with your points. Ditch that square tire setup and put a nice set of Terracross tires on instead 🤘👊💥
Man, have to severely disagree here. Terracross tires SUCK! They have to be aired down so low for traction, you start getting rim hits. And aversion to square tire setup? You just lost my respect. There is zero reason for staggered tires/wheels on these machines! Lose that extra rotational mass in the back end that isn't really doing much on trails and livin up the machine.
@@RedRocket204 Narrower fronts provide sharper steering because less mass means less flat surface area which allows the tire bite better when cornering.. The pros run square set ups with narrower front and rear tires for that reason, the narrower rears have less drag in ruts.. I'm good with 11" rears but I Prefer the performance gains and agility of narrower fronts. It's just a different riding philosophy that prioritizes agility over grip in the mud.. As for the Terracross tires, we're just going to have to agree to disagree.. If us, (and Dirt Trax) having different taste in tire set up loses your respect, so be it.. But sometimes it's more constructive to consider alternative points even if you ultimately disagree... Ive learned a lot that way, but certainly haven't adopted every idea I've ever heard..
We got our Polaris 1000xp at about the same time you did, so we followed along with ya on that journey. We just picked up a Suzuki King Quad 750, overall we really like it and agree on many of your opinions on the power needed for a trail machine. Suzuki’s fit and finish is amazing, gear lever and transmission engagement is phenomenal, power is just fine for the trails and many other great things. Not crazy about Suzukis power steering but it’s not horrible just not at the quality we would expect. We are in the opposite boat as we would love to get our hands on a new Grizzly and do a side by side video- hopefully this happens for us soon. Another great video!
Glad to have had y'all around since the beginning!! I know the KQ is awesome too, it probably doesn't get the credit it deserves.. But I also think Suzuki is shy now because the launch of the changes to the KQ in 2019 didn't hit as hard as they had hoped..
Nice review. I have a 2017 Grizzly 700 with eps. Has Elka stage 4 suspension, EPI performance clutch. Flexx bars, bead lock rims with Kenda bear klaw tires. Upgraded fuel controller and air box. I also have a 2016 Can-am 1000xxc. The Grizzly is such a balanced machine. I can ride it flat out most of the time. The Can-am is faster straight line but it’s like riding a hippo. You’re ever in the middle TN area come on out for a ride.
Just coming home with My 2020 xtr and the brand new SE.. from the Oregon dunes... both Grizzlies ate those dunes up! Climbed it all.. and was able to easily plane ontop of the sand as well... great rigs!
Well, as a total novice who just reintroduced himself to the world of ATV's 24 hours ago with a visit to the local dealer, I must say that I appreciate this excellent review! I have purchased a few ATV's over the years for work purposes on my farm, but am just now thinking I would enjoy one for use in my vineyard as well as "fun" use on the trails in some remote family mining property we own. The dealership here showed me the Grizzly models and the Kodiak 700 too...also showed me the various CFMOTO models that might be considered comparable. Keep in mind, I know essentially nothing about these vehicles except for what the salesperson was telling me, and subsequent views of videos like this. With that said, I am starting to think that the Grizzly is the machine I want. Probably the base Grizzly EPS with the smaller tires, thanks to the commentary on this video! However, reading the comments suggests that perhaps the SE or XT-R retrofitted with another set of tires would be good, too. Is any kind of reprogramming necessary for these machines necessary to accommodate a change of wheel and tire sizes? I'm thinking this is so, as these vehicles seem to approach automobiles in their sophistication.
Great review. My ‘22 grizzly took a little getting used to coming from a ‘18 outlander max 650 but after putting 3000 km on it in just over 6 months, I’d never go back to can am. I would fit the grizzly 700 right in between the 570 and 650 for power but the handling and lighter weight make it a very nimble quad. The price difference between the ‘22 and ‘23 models is just mind boggling for only changing the colour scheme. Yamaha should be paying more attention to the fit and finish for the price jump.
Great video guys. Just picked up a KQ 750 Se+, very curious to see your review that machine and comparison to the grizzly. I do all PA and WV trail riding, little mudding. It's an impressive beast. In my opinion alittle dumbfounding how well you can rip trails! Keep up the cool vids
Right on, I have the same quad per you guys always talking it up, by far my favorite four wheeler to date. I’ve ridden 850s and you’re right, trail riding them you aren’t using all that damn power unless you’re XC 4x4 class lol. I swapped out the 14s and zillas for 12” rims and 26” obors for more spirited trail riding.
That's awesome!! I'm glad you're happy with it! Honestly we spend a lot of time at XC races and even those boys aren't utilizing all that power except for maybe a field section here and there... There's even a few guys racing Grizzlies in IXCR!
Nice breakdown of the Grizzly spot on with why people like that machine. I agree they should go back to a narrower front tire would probably help with more sporty feel. Thanks for continuing to promote Quads!
Holy Frigg buddy! Looks like you've been spending some time in the gym! You are jacked and lookin' good bro! Oh, and about the review . . . EXCELLENT as usual! I love all the "rider" information you provide (as opposed to just spewing out the specs). I'm a big Grizzly fan, but not a fan of the CVT. Thanx for the review bud!
Thanks Q! I've been doing a lil iron sligning lately, actually have been for 20years, just had to drop that outter fluffy layer! Specs are boring and don't always translate well to practical use! Thanks for checking it out!
Spot on review i have 2 Grizzlys switch in 2020 from a solid rear axle Rubicon great machine but my back could not take it anymore i tried them all the Grizzly softest ride and the way it performs balance power 4x4 with diff lock power steering just the best overall pkg , The KQ was second nice machine
I have a 2020 Grizzly 700 XTR. I called every dealership in the southeast at the time and the were sold out, so I bought mine used. Fantastic quad, but I don't care for the wheels. I just love grizzlies. They do everything well and never break. This is my second one (2007 previously). My brother has a Suzuki Kingquad and I would also recommend those as well.
100% agree on HP. The 45-50ish HP on my 2019 Grizzly SE has never left me wanting more. I need low end which a big single has. Any issues I have ever had were due to ground clearance or being too light (plowing) and never not enough power.
Gave me a good laugh.. have the same “issues” right now on my quad, 22 SE the headlight gap and the headlight shake. I actually took it back after I bought it because running the right shakes significantly more then my left and was told it’s normal/by design. The paint also fails if you wash with pressure but other then that fantastic machine!
"By design" is just what dealers say when they mean "crappy design" 😁.. I can overlook that stuff but at $12.4 for a middle weight machine you really shouldn't have too..
Great video Only reason I didn't mind those xtr tires on mine was because I use it in snow from time to time. I was surprised at the msrps compared to my 2021. I did do full ricochet skid plates almost right away, I didn't want to break something important in the middle of nowhere, I'm not that handy 😂
100% agree on the fit and finish points. That handlebar mounted light pod specifically. I don’t know why Yamaha even added that. I had a 2003 Grizzly for 18 years before finally upgrading to a 2021. Never needed the light then and still don’t. This time around I was somewhat torn between a new Grizz or the King Quad. Mostly because the Suzuki KK was readily available. But I managed to find a new Grizzly and snapped it up. No regrets. Great vid.
Great overall review. I love trail riding but where I ride there's so many rivers/creeks, swamps, water hole's etc.. So one thing I would've mentioned that's IMO one of the biggest strengths of the Grizzly is it's air intake is sealed really well and up really high. On my 2011 Grizzly 700 EPS, and I'm not lying when I say this, I had that thing basically COMPLETELY under water more times than I care to admit, and I never, not one time had a belt slip. The first 2 times that it happened were out of emergency in a bad situation when the bottom fell out on a trail we were riding, and ever since then it gave me confidence that for the riding I did/do that I wouldn't need a snorkel. IDK if these new Grizzly's are like that 2011 Grizz as far as the air intake goes, but my Sportsmans always had belt slip problems at half the water levels as the Grizz. Y'all may not do much water riding, but a lot of people do, and IMO the Grizz is the absolute GOAT coming from that factory at it (outside of Honda's of course, lol).
@@dcsales2007 Can you explain that more, it's not making sense.. The air filter allows dirt in the airbox? You mean it let's dirt into the intake? Or the air box intake allows dirt into the box pre-filter?
So I forgot to mention that , the one thing the grizzly has better than the king is the cvt intake and exhaust is located up at the front rack , the king cvt exhaust is located at the rear and does take on water much easier than the king quad
@@dcsales2007 Oh ok, he says in the airbox but he means in the intake.. Yea, that's probably a bad design that requires the filter to be pretty wet with oil in order to maintain contact around that intake... Raptors are kind of the same way. I'd think upgrading to an Uni filter alone would help mitigate that..
Amen on the tire selection for the Grizz. I don't do mud and hated the Zilla's pushing the front end. Wish the SE model would have just stuck with the 12-inch rims. Great review.
I agree 100% that the Grizzly is the best trail riding quad you can get. I just picked up a outlander 1000 and the power is awesome…in the open…but on the deep woods trails I ride I never get to use it. I’ve owned several Grizzly’s in the past and find them much more suited for trails. And don’t get me started on all the having to switch back and fourth between high and low gear…or the Visco lock…lol. The ultramatic cvt on the Yamaha’s is the best cvt system in the market period! I’ll probably keep the outlander for a year or so as a long term tester to make some content with and I do really enjoy riding it but once I’m done with it I’m most likely getting myself another Grizzly.
That's a good idea! I can tell you that we're pretty selective based on which areas are more ATV friendly ie less drunk dudes in SXSs.. We mostly film at Canmer ATV trails and when we really want to rip we go to White Sulfur in the Daniel Boone.. They're 50" restricted so it's all quads and dirt bikes.. Hatfield McCoy Trails are always a great time too! Thank you!
I bought a 2021 grizzly se and I overlooked HP for everything else the grizzly offers. It is light (relative) handles great, suspension is smooth, PS is spot on, reliable, smooth clutch engagement, oh and it looks great!
Great review, and I agree Yamaha's Grizzly/Kodiak 700's are one of the best all round ATV's on the market. I own a 2007 420 2x4 base model Honda Rancher, 2017 Kodiak 700 4x4 base model, 2021 Can AM 650 XMR and a 2022 Special Addition Kodiak 700 (with the XTR tire package). Everyone knows about the Can Am shuffle and it's sad to do when you spend so much money on that machine, so right on about the butter smooth shifting. I was surprised that during the review it was not noted about the belts on the Yamaha's always being engaged, that is a huge deal especially when doing small but complicated moves with the machines. Many of the other competitors that use belts, are not always engaged, causing a delay but more importantly a jump when the belt is finally engaged. The other thing that is huge to me, is my Can Am 650 weighs 200 pounds more than my 2 Yamahas, and that weight is definitely felt in the mud and sand where we spend the majority of our time due to the local terrain. I have to engage 4 wheel drive in my places that my other lighter atv's simply don't have to do. Thanks for reading my comment and loved the videos I have watch so far from this channel.
Just bought a 22 grizz SE haven't even broke it in yet but so far love it came from Honda and sport bikes such a Cadillac compared to them can't wait to get it out on the trails this summer
One of the best review channels. As a young old man (65), I owned a Grizzly back in around 2008. Kept it almost 10 years. Never changed the oil. It was bulletproof. I then got a CanAm XTP 1000. I liked it but traded it for a X3 XRC and could never go back to an ATV.
@@DirtObseXXion truth be told, I mainly used them to plow my very long driveway. It was big mistake to trade the XTP as I thought I could put a plow on the X3. Nope. Oh, and you are 100 percent correct about the difficulty shifting the CanAm.
Excellent video as always. I’m still a Outlander guy but my wife’s Grizzly is bulletproof. I like them both. I’ll give the Grizzly the nod in comfort over the Can Ams. Can’t go wrong with the Yamaha.
Yep! I rank the Outlanders right up there too.. I only give the nod to Grizzly for overall refinement of the things I mentioned in the vid.. Both great tho!! Y'all did it right!
Another great review. After riding both the King 750 and Grizz 700 back to back the grizzly fits my big guy butt better. Seat is softer and more comfortable for the long run. Speaking of big guy…… dude what are you doing. Looking pumped and dropping the pounds. That’s inspiring. I need to get shit together and follow your lead. Great job as usual.
Thanks brother! Good thing for us to keep in mind for a comparison.. Me and FB both lost about 55lbs.. Ive always been a meat head but I had to tighten the diet up.. Best performance mod I ever did to my quad was definitely losing weight!
@@DirtObseXXion that’s very impressive. I need to do that also. What worked for you? Assuming diet and the gym? Either way not to turn this into a gym session. What’s your opinion of the paint on these ATV’s? I’ve never seen one that’s 5 years old and thought man that looks good. I would be down for a base model. Please keep the vids coming. Those of us with an atv addiction are becoming extinct
@@Sparktrician I use to be a competitive bodybuilder, so I knew how to meal prep and generally what was going to work for me. I prioritize protein, eat carbs around my workouts and adjust my calorie deficit, maintenance, or surplus with my fats.. It's very easy to do, consistency is king. I've been working out for 20years so I was already in that habit. ATVs typically have a tuff life so they do tend to look rough.. If you say my 3 year old Raptor in my last vid, it still looks pretty good.. I like to put tire foam on it after I wash it which seems to keep the plastic healthy and prevents some fade.. The automotive painted plastics seem to last longer but they're expensive to replace.
King quad and the grizzly are pretty close , I have had both , both great machines, the king quad needs the suspension a couple clicks stiffer on the front from factory to keep the front end from diving in the turns , also a 2mm shim kit and 19 gram rollers really brings the king quad alive , it’s really hard to choose between the two , and they are both incredible reliable , the seat is way better on the grizzly since it is way softer
I had a KQ 750. Great machine, reliable as can be, lots of power. But it lacks what all the Japanese brands lack... Accessories and especially ones that quick attach. I would likely buy one again some day though.
I own a KingQuad 700 and I'm thinking about buying a grizzly 660 as well to see what I like better. My friend has a brand new Kodiak 700 but I can't compare. That thing with eps is just a dream to ride. Only thing is that the gauge screen rattes terribly and meanwhile my kingquad was in a rollover accident and not a single thing wobbles there.
@@jasonmartin786 We just ride em right outta the gate and do an oil change about 10hrs.. I used to be careful about the break in period, but honestly the best thing you can do is run it at a variety of RPMs after a couple heat cycles... These motors are pretty bullet proof..
Nice! What suspension did you go with? Elka? I know Kawasaki has a relationship with Fox, I wish they'd offer a slightly wider Brute with QS3 suspension and decent tires...
I must say , they are spot on on all the comments, also on the 700 eps alu the plastics scratch easily.. the zillas love the look, also with the big wheels, but it makes replacing tires an expensive thing. I have the rox footpegs, thats a true no brainer, you have to buy them.. its a lifesaver.. and indeed the skidplates need to be upgraded to riccochet or iron baltic hdpe and i am not a small person so there may be a rox riser coming also
I had a 2019 SE and loved everything about it except the shorter than competition wheelbase. I’m a tall guy and climbing felt sketchy with the 49.5” stance. Great bike though and another great review.
I traded my 2021 Outlander 650 for this exact model, 22 grizz, after I bought my wife a 2020 Kodiak 700 SE and found myself taking hers out whenever I would ride solo. I am happy with my decision. I love the videos guys, y'all do great work. Check to see if that XTR came with a tool kit, they were left out of many XTR models in the US including mine.
Got one in the shop that wrecked. Don't know if it was spirited driving or driving on spirits, but what a shame. We all rode it and loved it before the crash but after patching it up, it turned into the red headed step child of the 50 machines we've got now. Now it's a matter of what they'll spend more money on repairs and replacing parts and asked us to wire tie the plastics together. It was a great machine!
Great video…I purchased the Grizzly XTR EPS 2022 just 3 days ago 9-11-22 for $11,500.00. I have 4 hrs on it and did notice the enormous understeer at even 25 mph on hard trail turns. I agree that a tire change should help considerably. I considered the Polaris 850 Sport, but after seeing some reviews from actual owners I knew that I couldn’t go there. The 4 wheeler that my current Grizzly replaced was a 2000 year model Yamaha Big Bear, that means I’ve been using it for 22 years, it still runs great but it’s 2 wheel drive, I did treat this machine with some respect, regular oil changes, air filter kept clean so on and so forth. But make no mistake, I did not bay it, all of its limitations where sot and found lol. The biggest most expensive repair I’ve ever had on it was to change the rear shaft seal, it was $185.00 dollars done by a shop down the road. This was four years ago, when I picked it up from the shop I asked what is the best 4 wheeler in their prospective and they told me if everyone took care of their 4 wheeler and drove a Yamaha they couldn’t stay in business. He then took me in the back of his shop and there was not less than 30 waiting for work. I counted 19 Polaris and the rest where CanAm. Like I said it is tempting to buy one of those others for bragging rights a raw power…but at my age just going in the woods to get to my deer stand or to my duck blind…this Grizzly is more than enough of all the things I need.
@@DirtObseXXion Put on a set of good tires (maxxis bighorn 26) and wheels with a little more offset. It makes a world of difference on the Kingquad. A 1,5mm shim in the vario really wakes it up. The Grizzly and the Kingquad are so similar. The two best trailmachines.
@@stafwielockx7718 Agreed, they're out favorites. I'll probably run the stockers for awhile then go with ITP Terracross tires unless I find something else. We put Bearclaws on the Grizz... They shake like crazy
Had a 2019 Grizzly 700 SE and I really enjoyed it for what it was, but I quickly started missing my v-twin Brute. The Grizzly checks so many boxes - suspension, best 4wd, best CVT, etc. But none of that compares to v-twin power and smoothness. I’ll end buying Elkas for the Brute to help it out as much as possible and it has its drawbacks, but man that v-twin just makes your heart sing. Also, the Brute is lighter than most big bores and still has a narrow track width. The Brute is more like a mid-sized atv with a v-twin upgrade.
Yep! Nothing wrong with the Brute.. The only thing I personally don't like about it is the bulky midsection, but you can't really escape that with a big twin..
@@DirtObseXXion I'm here with a Brute 650 SRA and looking for the 'next big thing' and honestly I'm not seeing anything on the market that gives me what I want at a price I can swallow. Obviously I would like more power, same sporty dynamics, fuel injection instead of carbs, and reliability. Seems that this doesn't exist. If Suzuki could put a SV1000 motor on a 'utility' quad with a straight axle, I'd buy two of them.
I'm in a similar situation as the owner of an old 05 prairie 700. It would be nice to have a machine that rides a little better in the woods but I'm not sure if the current Brute Force would be a big enough step up to justify the cost difference.
Bought a 2018 outlander 570 in 2018. I enjoy the machine but the shifting is pothetic as is the maintenance! I’ve own Yamaha products all my life and know how AWSOME they look and feel. Kinda wished I bought a grizzly. Your right about the handleing. Newcomers read about the hp on the Polaris and can am’s but don’t realize what weight does to the handleing. I guess I’m saying to anyone looking to get into the sport, don’t over look the grizzly and some of the other Japanese offerings!
I have a 2020 just took it for some trail riding a few weeks ago I have 140 miles on it and this thing is a beast love it chose this over a king quad which was nice but I went with the grizz what's a good psi for those zillas good video thanks rodney from va
Good question about psi.. We'd have to experiment more to say for sure.. We ran about 7lbs which was good for what we were doing.. Less pressure softens the ride and adds some grip to slower crawling, but causes more sidewall flex when cornering at speed.. So it depends on how you ride, but I'd say start with somewhere around 7lbs and adjust based on your preferences
Awesome review. Love watching the show. I think the grizzly 700 outshines the king quad 750 all around. But for the price point of the grizzly 700, I would definitely go with the Bruteforce 750 hands down.
I love these videos. I have been saving them and then binge watching at night on a big TV with surround sound. Better entertainment than anything on Netflix or HBOMax!! I know you have heard this question 1000x, but I am having a hard time deciding on which ATV to purchase. May I ask for some advice? I am looking for a real Utility (80%) ATV with good Sport (20%) capabilities. It will spend most of its life around our house hauling weedeaters, chainsaws and sprayers, but I hope to take it trail riding here in NC 5-6x a year for 1-2 days each. We have about 30 acres and plenty of trails to ride here. I had a KQ 500 and a Rancher 420 several years ago that I sold when my kids were smaller. My concern is that the Grizzly 700 EPS would have too much power for my sons (19, 17, 14). Do you think this is too much ATV for younger boys? I do not want to look back and wish that I had bought something else. $$ isn't the biggest concern as making a mistake is more expensive than spending a little more up front getting it right the first time. I am in my late 40s and hope to keep the ATV for 10-15 years, so reliability is very important. I have narrowed it down to the following 2023 models: Yamaha Grizzly EPS - $11,399 (MSRP) Yamaha Kodiak EPS - $9,999 (MSRP) Honda Rubicon DCT EPS - $9,899 (MSRP) The Honda has much less power, but a reputation for reliability. It does seem to ride a bit stiffer than either Yamaha. It is the reputation of the Honda that has it in the mix. On paper it doesn't stack up to either Yamaha, but most people who have them love them. My plans are very different than found in most videos, but I bet many of the folks that watch your videos have similar uses. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks! Well I can't speak to the maturity of your boys, so only you know that one.. Im not a huge fan of the Honda ATVs, I don't like the DCT.. It wouldn't be as sporty as your other options.. Kodiak is a little smaller than a Grizzly and not quite as snappy, I think you should also consider a KingQuad, I'd put it over the Kodiak.. A lot of folks are really happy with the KQ. I think you're on the right track, Japanese reliability is still king and the Grizzly or KQ are both work and play capable.. If I were to go smaller displacement I'd probably look at the KQ500
@@DirtObseXXion Thank you for the advice. I did not even consider the KQ. I called around yesterday asking about a KQ 500 or KQ 750. There are none to be tested or even viewed within about 75 miles. I also learned that there are absolutely no Yamaha Grizzlies or Kodiak ATVs within 100 miles. There are plenty of Polaris machines, but very few Japanese brands. It is a tough time to buy an ATV or SXS. There just aren't any it seems. Keep up the great videos and thank you!
@@dcsales2007 Thank you for the feedback on the Honda. Holding a certain gear and speed would be helpful when I have the sprayer on the back spraying underneath fences. I called around yesterday looking for a Honda Rubicon 520 to go look at and test ride. I couldn't find a single machine, but plenty of offers to be put on a waiting list. I am told that 2023 machines should be shipping soon though.
Great job boys. I’m running staggered bighorn 3.0 on my 2022 grizzly and love them. 26x9x12 front 26x11x12 rear. Maxxis recently reached out to me and let me know to run higher psi. I’m running 10 psi. Fantastic performance and tread profile at that pressure.
I wonder why they reached out, did you ask them about the psi? We usually run slightly higher than normal, like 7-8.. I agree, cornering performance definitely increases with a little more pressure. Thanks for the comment!
Thx for the reply. Sorry yes. I reached out first. Couldn’t find any trustworthy info on tire pressure. Went to the source. Was surprised. Was planning on Running 7 psi originally. But think I’ll start at 12 and air down if needed as I go.
@@dmcmc4837 Good plan! Lower PSI will give you more traction but higher should make the tire handle better and last longer. Thank you for the reply too!!
You're spot on with your review as usual. Coming from sport quads and always used. These 4x4 quads are pretty amazing. I never thought eps was all that until I bought a 570 trail. I prefer the low setting most of the time. The cost of all machines has gone absolutely crazy. I really believe cfmoto is becoming the best choice. Still love the sport quads above all.
I'm not sold on the Motos yet.. I did a vid on them a few months back and I'd say it's maybe 60/40 or 70/30 positive owner feedback.. Basically guys who have owned them a year or less with a few hundred miles love them, everyone who has owned the 2-3 years thinks they're junk...
Tough choice for me. Gonna buy either a Grizzly or Brute Force this fall. Being a old sport quad guy I like the nasty instant hit of power the Brute Force has. My spinal cord wants the Grizzly. Great work y’all 👍🏻
100% confirm on the tires. I have one grizzly with 25" sunf bighorn clones (8 wide in the front) and one special edition edition with these square zillas. no control when coming out of a corner with the zillas. Also the zillas do not have "consistent" traction in trail conditions. They seem to either slip or grip. Where as the bighorn pattern is much more predictable.
I said it before and I say it again if I could go back I would of got the grizzly over the canam now having said that I love this machine. Kinda like with my guitars I can shred on a Harley Benton just as good as a Gibson and save a lot of money no different with the atv. Great video Chad nice machine flyin Brian
Also, things to add to reviews, serviceability. For example, AC has a replaceable oil pan bottom where the drain plug is. That's a cheap fix over having to tap because your torque wrench was miscalibrated and stripped the threads on a KQ. Ease of maintenance, Can-Am is a bit of a pain with the plastics, 2016+ AC's are very open and easy. kQ, oil changes were easy, but anything else seemed a tight work area. Doing these deeper conversations may help with the many Japanese brands not changing anything typically year over decade lol.
Another good point, some of that will have to be part of a long term review.. Even when I know something is reliable, I wouldn't make that claim on something new.. But serviceability is definitely something we can do eventually.. I expect this machine is going to stick around for awhile..
After owning both and currently own the 22 KingQuad 750 , it’s a narrow margin but overall quality and fit and finish goes to the Suzuki. Out of the box both stock tires are bad , but the non XTR packaged grizzlies tires are absolutely terrible . Narrow win for the KQ there as it’s stocks aren’t much better . Handling narrow nod to the grizzly as it didn’t wander quite as bad on gravel as the KQ does . Narrow win to the grizzly for a softer ride and softer seat as well. Power is quite equal with the grizzly being slightly snappier down low but feeling a hair less strong in the middle as the KQ and a hair slower up top. If you coop mod the kingquad it would probably be considerably quicker . Narrow cvt win for the grizzly . Ultramatic is the best cvt in the business. Overall after having both I wouldn’t give the kingquad up. It just “feels” better . That’s my personal butt cheeks dyno but it’s just a more solid feeling built machine . The kq will also putt along around 5-7 mph like a manual shift Honda barely thumping . Pretty neat for a CVT. Great video !
Ya I've owned both 2019 750 kingquad and traded it in on a 2020 XTR . The power steering on the Suzuki sucks , the front inner fenders flop around, the foot wells suck , the handle bars push your elbows down and into your rib area and the rep support in Ontario sucks . The grizzly is by far a way better machine in all aspects
I keep saying this to most of the ATV RU-vidrs.... I want to see where the intakes and CVT exausts are when a review is done. It's good to know what the limits are of an ATV. For example, the KQ 750 CVT exaust location sucked. My 2017 AC Alterra 700, fully snorkeled to the pod but the CVT exaust was very low in comparison, so what's the point if you get stuck with a wet belt? I'm not necessarily looking to go deep, but knowing the limits because here in NS, a trail ride can include in just a few km, dust trail, rocky hill climbs, mucky trails, then a crossing that's unavoidable and requires knowing the depth limit. Even where the airbox is and how it's designed. KQ's is fairly high and can take in quite a bit if water with no issues. But a saw a Kodiak that was low and got flooded in the same flooded trail.
I feel like both KingQuad SE+ and Grizzly SE should at least offer Maxxis BigHorn tires with the Grizzly XTR keeping the Zillas. BigHorns are a premium tire that does everything great. They look good, handle well, do great in mud, and ride great on trail riding. However the Zillas on my KingQuad are absolutely phenomenal for what I've done in the past year and half.
I love Yamaha and have rode the 660 grizzly my dad bought in 04 forever now but I decided to go with the outlander 1000 for my new atv. If they made something just in the 850 class I would have probably went Yamaha! The day they decide to drop a bigger motor in the grizzly I’ll probably get it
Ya but that square set up with that wheel and tire package looks dang good. I’ve got a 2021 se in the burnt orange and grey and it’s to me the best looking atv there is. My wife rides a king quad 500 so I’d love to see the comparison between the kq750 and the grizzly. Keep up the good work
It does look good, but rides too harsh for trails. I just switched my setup to radial HTR tires and I would never go back.... such a better stance now, improved steering and handling, and oh the comfort. Tremendous!
I have a 2021 Grizzly. Awesome machine, I wish it had better shocks but for most riding it's hard to beat a Grizzly! Great drive system, enough power to get you hurt and reliable!!
@@trailwarriorslife yes I put zillas on and took off the maxxis tires right away, in the 1st week I put ITP wheels and 26" zillas, I think they're a great all around tire. I had them on my 2019 and the wives. We run gravel, asphalt, mud and dirt with no complaints and their a light tire so don't dog down the motor.
@@SuperDave-pe1zw Right on. I didn't like the Zillas after a Ride The Wilds NH trip.... 150-mile loop in flip-flops lol, I was done with the Zillas. Had to get a radial on there, and it made a world of a difference for me.
I'm glad that last year I bought my 2021 base Grizzly for $10.199.00 paid if full cash! Still have my 2002 660 Raptor that I bought new an it's been a great bike except for starter clutches an broken chains. YAMAHA FOR LIFE!!!
Honestly I want a new grizz but my old bruin 350 still has its no quit attitude it had since it was new and I couldn't bring myself to part with it or let it sit. I'll no doubt keep it forever.
Oh I bet they are! I didn't mean they weren't good tires and weren't right for some folks, just wish there was different option who don't see a lot of snow or mud..
@@DirtObseXXion oh I know, most of the negative comments I've heard about those are the width up front making steering slow and hitting too many obsticles.. another buddy has a narrower square setup on his and it seems perfect. I run 27 "trail warriors on my kodiak 700 se they get almost too much traction..have to work at keeping the front down on hills. cheers!
I have a 2022 XTR and I absolutely love it, trades my canned ham renegade for it. I’ll never go back. Thant being said, the shorty plastic about the light, and the shaky front LED lights are the exact same on mine. They should address this issue
I have a 2021 SE…the OEM air filter setup is less than ideal. Went to EHS to fix that. The foot pegs are pathetic. Went to ROX to fix that. The handlebar light is halogen versus LED and didn’t color match. Went to Amazon to fix that. The rear storage box doesn’t seal at all, but you do have the front screw on storage. The tires have grown on me but I’ll replace with Kenda Bear Claw HTR when worn. The Zillas are the lightest mud tire on the market at 22 pounds in the size. Servicing the front and rear differentials could be easier and cleaner but you don’t service it often. On XTR winch should be synthetic rope versus cable. Perfect machine other than that and it will never leave you stranded in the trails!
Good points! We switched to Kenda Bearclaw HTRs and aren't happy at all... They make the machine vibrate really bad at 30mph.. We've used them before without issues so hopefully we just got a lemon set.. Kenda wouldn't replace them tho..
Have you done the head to head with the Kingquad yet? I'm picking up my 2013 Grizz next week, after weeks of himming and hawing between the Grizz, the King, and a Sportsman 570, and I'd be interested in hearing what you guys thought.
I got that exact bike and I do agree with you on the tires I’m not really liking them that much and would love some bighorns OG but they don’t make them in 27x10x14 errrr witch I’m finding out now most tire manufacturers don’t .. sure hope that changes.. And my friend has a 21 Kingquad 750 and they have to be the closest two quads there are in comparison .. I actually think the king quad beats it in fit and finish but very close.. I think the king quad has a little more top end wear the grizzly has a little more bottom. IMO I like where the cvt intake is better on the grizzly and I think the power steering is better and a way more plush seat. I find I find the bottom on the king quads seat.. and I love love the looks of the grizzly that colour scheme is my fav for sure.. both those bikes are so close in comparison that it almost just comes down to looks lol oh but I do like the dual breaks .. and here in Canada we get a tool kit but sure not much of one .. love your vids guys and I think you guys are some of the most honest guys out there .. keep up the great work
From what I hear you don’t need to worry about belt slip on the grizzly even in high range. Is this true for the most part from your experience. I’ve had belt slip on my sportsman 570 from going to slow on a trail with a slight incline in high range. I do like the 570 though especially the engine. Thanks for the videos I’m a bit of a ATV nerd
Yamaha's cvt is incredible, it never slips and they offer a 10yr warranty on the belt.. Another nice thing I failed to mention is that low gear has a really wide range on the Grizzly, you can easily go from crawling to 30-40mph comfortably in low gear.. Most other ATVs have a much more narrow low gear..
For prices to go up higher and nothing new brought to the table? Makes it hard for someone to drop that kind of money on an atv that hasn’t changed much in a while. Same with Honda. Looks like I’ll be looking into the used market now. Great video!
I really like the Yamaha grizzly if I didn't go with the Can-Am Renegade and wasn't looking for more high performance I would of without a doubt went with a Grizzly 700. I like the XTR but the wheel and tire package is definitely a turn off. It definitely needs a good all terrain not those mud specific tires. Not sure what Yamaha was thinking here. I kind of like a 12-in wheel a little better also but perhaps the cushy suspension on the grizzly doesn't really call for it, that being said it's always nice to have a little extra sidewall. Cant go wrong with this machine really. Once my need for speed wears off I think I can see myself on a grizzly 700 for a trail machine. Comes with some nice storage you can take the front rack off and to have it look very sporty and aggressive.
I’m a kq guy but value both machines greatly for their shared power, durability and quality! Great review! Ps, not to go against you but team Suzuki! Lol
@@DirtObseXXion wish I could get a sporty bike like those! Rode a 250 Honda and fell in love with it! The market just isn’t great right now and gas is going out. Getting better slowly though!
@@DirtObseXXion I love my kq 500! Been a champ even with not great maintenance for years lol. Outdoor love a Suzuki sport bike though! Rode a 20 Honda and fell in love with the bike ! I want one but the market ain’t great and gas/ internal combustion is going out with the market pricy too. But it’s getting better though! Keep rippin!
I have to agree with you on the price. I got myself a 2018 not long ago and paid actual market value before everything went bananas. It's getting ridiculous. This may be partially because the market got flooded since covid, but I bet in 2-3 years, the used market will flood and the MSRPs will be dropping. Let's hope, anyway.
I don't ever remember MSRPs dropping but you use to never have to pay full msrp.. Last Grizzly I bought was a 16 EPS new for 7700.. I hope those days return eventually..
Grizzly is no doubt better than most and I Loved the Grizzly that I have and also the Kodak 700 EPS so I can tell by both for so many years that it takes a back seat went compared to my Sportsman xp 1000 in every way it the seat, ride, handling, power, power steering, brakes, looks, LED lights and the AWD is way better than having to lock and unlock the front diff. all day long. My son in law that is ex ARMY 27 years old and I 56 years old can go riding and he is riding my Kodak 700 EPS and me on my Sportsman xp 1000 and by the end of the day I'm still ready to ride some more and he's like I'm wore the F out. I have a hill behind my home and it's steep and loose the Kodak can make it but has a hard time spinning until you lock the front differential so have to lock it going up unlock going down the Sportsman you just put it in 4x4 and just ride. Putting Highlifer gearing in my Sportsman xp 1000 for more rock crawler .
I had a down payment on a grizzly just a month ago, went and looked at it and was let down by the fit and finish, like you said maybe I was being knit picky but I felt like I could be for the price I was paying. There was mis alignment and gaps all over the plastics. The only other things that swayed me against it was the length of the seat, the shorter wheelbase, the gap in rear cargo box door and why arch the front A arms if you don’t do the back? seems to negate the purpose. Yes maybe minor details to some but bugged me enough to go with a new king quad which has killer power and just as reliable, arguable better. They both have pros and cons, it really comes down to what you prefer in small subjective comforts/ features. to each their own I guess. To throw it out there I’m curious as to why people prefer the 4x4 system of these machines over say Polaris? I had a Polaris and it worked great, all 4 spin which some believe doesn’t happen. I’d rather not have to stop on a hill to put my locker in because the “4wd” only had 3 tires spinning. Again preferences here and there.
I can understand that and definitely commend you for being critical about how you spend your hard earned dollars.. 4x4.. I do like Polaris's AWD system, for riding in it all the time for additional grip on slick terrain, I think it's pretty good.. The challenge there is that front diff design doesn't hold up well.. The pinion plate, seals and basket are weak points that have given me and many others headache.. True traditional 4x4 with a lockable differential gives you the most 4x4 pull. Ive found you don't need it often but it's nice when you do.. It's also what enables independent front and rear brakes which gives the rider more control versus the rear bias all wheel braking that Polaris AWD forces them to use...
i find people underestimate the power in the grizzly with just a few quick upgrades like a hmf pipe and tunner and clutch kit and its like night and day in power
I like to see a long travel kit to make it 50” wide and see them run with elka shocks. I believe it make it more competitive and make all the mid rpm power and higher end power usable. No one else is doing a long travel kit that I can find. Do you know of any?
No, but you're typically not going to see a LT kit for a 4x4.. It's pretty close to 50" wide anyway, so you can probably get it there with wheel offset.. Personally, I keep the Grizzly close to stock and build the crap out of the Raptor 700
Great review guys, but I have to disagree with you about the shifting. I've had three Grizzly's, including my current 2021 SE and all of them have good shifting but it's not buttery smooth. Often times you have to blip the throttle to get things meshed up. It's the only thing I don't like about my Grizzly, but it's very minor. Looking forward to your Head to Head review of the Grizzly and King Quad.
Good to know, we haven't had that problem with this one yet or my last one (16) model.. Did it start right away or something that started after it had some miles in it..
Great point on the tires. I like a little mudding, nothing crazy and stupid deep. The zillas are great for that, but I've found they are garbage when you need to go up a rocky incline. They fling the rocks more than they grab and pull you up the hill.
They did fine everywhere we went but they're just too big.. I know a lot of guys want bigger tires but I prefer lower center of gravity and lighter weight.. Thanks for all the comments on this vid.. Im gonna keep all that feedback in mind. We try not to cover same ol specs and dimensions that don't really mean a whole lot, but intake location and serviceability are great points.. When we do the comparison I'm definitely going to include those things!
@@DirtObseXXion narrower on all 4 corners? I’m wanting to keep the stock xtr rims . I usually just go with the 8 front 10 back but can’t do that with these rims and never even thought about it before buying.I was sold on the colour lol I don’t mind a square set up just don’t like the zillas I find they make the ride rough compared to a terracross or htr .. dude I really appreciate your feed back you guys rock
@@dannymacdonnell251 Yeah, you should be able to go narrower.. 9.5 isn;t too much narrower. I'm not sure what the rim width is, but it's probably a couple inches narrower than the tires (It will be marked somewhere on the wheel. I'm guessing 8" but maybe 9.. Just check that first.. When you look at the tires they should say what inch rim they'll fit on.. Rims are typically a couple inches more narrow than tires. If they're 8", a 9 or 9.5 would probably work just fine.
The XTR is the best quad of the 16 quads I have owned People need to stop comparing it to a class of machinery it's not in . It's not a twin and it's not meant to run with twins on the drag strip . It can keep up with and out run twins in the bush , I've done it . The power to weight ratio is where trail riders need to focus . All of the grizzly components, functions and options are spot on and should be the bar at which other manufacturers should strive for . I'm glad the 708 Subaru trend is over If Yamaha made a two up I would still be a Yamaha customer Thanks for your time and thanks for your videos
i saw on an official Yamaha website in Asia that Yamaha grizzly have 48.98 horsepower. and i saw on Kawasaki Russia official website, that brute force 750 have 51 horsepower. they are way lighter than 850 and 1000cc machines. power is plenty adequate.
They keep getting bigger and bigger. I liked the kodiak for its smaller size. The outsourced engine would smoke on startup because bad seals Yamaha said don’t worry about it. I sold it while I could
One thing I have noticed on my Grizzly, it doesn’t backshift quite as good as a Polaris. When climbing technical rocky hills, the Polaris scampers up much easier. I may swap springs in the secondary. Also, how do you like 14” wheels? I found them to ride too harsh with those Zilla tires, and swapped to 12” wheels.
That's interesting about the technical rocky hills, what size Sportsman? I love the look of Yamaha's wheels, but in my opinion 14s don't belong on an ATV.. I'd rather have tire sidewall than wheels that will just get damaged by rocks.. But to answer your question, I don't think the Zillas ride great, probably because of a mix of the big lugs and 14 wheels.. But I've never run them on 12s so I don't know how much of that is wheel and how much is tire..
@@DirtObseXXion my buddy rides a Sportsman 570. It’s pretty even with the Griz, and tends to be quicker up technical trails. It backshifts so easy and winds up easily. The Griz is great, but it needs mods to be as happy on the trail. I swapped the 14’s for 12’s and went to a Reptile radial, skinny square setup. Next is a machined sheave and purple spring for better backshifting.
I had a 2019 so basically the same machine, gutless wonder... my 2012 550 cat 2up would stay right with it accept for a few mph on the top end. About the only thing I liked better was the front end ride over the cat. Sold the grizzly and still have the Arctic cat. My biggest complaint was the heat, man that thing is hot to ride!
@@DirtObseXXion yes my buddy has a 2021 Cat and it is not near as good of a machine as mine is quality wise. My Cat has 6000 miles and went back for warranty once back then, his has been in about 6 times and he only has about 1500 miles.
Chances are your '19 was running lean and not tuned for optimum output and response. They are leaned-out to pass U.S. Emissions laws, etc. It's not good for the bike, especially long-term. I have a '19 SE w/ EHS Racing EFI programmer, EHS air intake mod, EHS airbox cover, and Barker's Exhaust, and it runs wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than stock, runs a little cooler, and has a much-improved thumb-throttle response....completely linear, straight-thru, even, quicker response, etc etc. Completely different bike now, and I wouldn't trade it for the world, especially after replacing the stock square tire/wheel setup with new 14x7 MSA M26 Vibe wheels w/ Kenda Bear Claw HTR tires (F: 26x9-14 R: 26x11-14) Amazing improvement in steering, handling and ride comfort.
ITP Terracross... We just bought Kenda Bear Claw HTRs which we liked in the past but the set we got has an issue.. The machine shakes like crazy despite trying Eve to fix it.. Chap Moto and Kenda aren't interested in making it right..
