Excited to see what E85 will do in the 7.3! I run E85 in my 2014 6.2 F350 with a tune and it is night and day over the 87 octane tune.

The engine itself is not designed for anything over 15% ethanol. With some.modification I'm sure it could run it, but if it's anything like my 5.0 was terrible mileage and not much power compared to regular.

The H.O. Ecoboost would win in a pull. Has more overall power and way more power in the low end. The difference is the 3.5L wouldn't be suited for the long term work the 7.3L is.

@@JeepCherokeeful Yeah for sure, but they're all buddy's now and so Damn even, it's kind of stupid. I believe, based on overall band, the 7.3 would dig in, and the 3.5 H.O. May be too low, if that makes sense. For sure, the 7.3's will still be roaming dinosaurs in 2050, just like a lot of mid 90's F-150's today. I see a lot of them around here and I live in snowville U.S.A. in Northern Michigan where the Great Lakes provide lake effect snow, and Canada hands us the 0 degrees in January. My Ford fires right up in the ice-cold conditions. Chevy guys can say what they want, but Ford has everything we'd want in engine choices and enough workhorses 7.3 P.S. that will still be running I 2050 right along with the Godzilla gasser. Ford is on top, love them or not, they give us everything.

@walterhill4506
@walterhill4506 4 года назад
DannyD Dude the mpg isn't that bad. I'm averaging 17-18 depending on wind. I've gotten as much as 19 just by keeping it at 70 or just below. Rpm stay right around 1800. Once over 70 mph rpm start to jump up and the mpg goes down. But even on a long highway trip averaging 76 mpg I still got 16.7 mpg. All stock no tune.
@DanielSon69
@DanielSon69 3 года назад
People don’t buy trucks for the fuel mileage. The fuel mileage does become a factor when calculating your operating costs, say if the truck was to be used commercially. Maximum range is another desirable trait where fuel economy plays a major role. Also, some truck buyers (myself included), like to know that we are doing our little part to minimize the impact of excess fuel emissions to our precious planet 🌎. If I can choose between multiple trucks that meet or exceed my needs, why shouldn’t fuel economy be taken into consideration? I’ll never understand the folks that ramble on about ‘not buying a truck for it’s fuel efficiency’ or the tried and true ‘If you can afford that truck, you can afford the fuel to run it’. 🙄

Hope you had a better 6.0 experience to my friends I know they were good engines but they did a fundamental thing about the head bolts and lots of mechanics at the time didn't know how to work on them and created some problems and they had to be replaced with studs. But the 600 wasn't in perfect engine it just was a transitional one word mechanics were we're working from a new platform instead of torque specs you had to turn it a little bit more on the head bolts and that's not what most people were used to they were working on them and Ford makes a lot of trucks and a lot of people didn't know how to work on them at that time. Octane only makes power by allowing extra timing to be dialed into the engine. High octane (91-93 octane) fuel is actually harder to ignite. It's a less volatile fuel than 87 octane. So the high octane fuel itself doesn't make extra power, the extra timing does

Warranty gone. My BIL at Ford told me that tuned engines blow at a higher rate than stock engines despite there being way more stockers on the road. This is from warranty claim data with flagged PCMs.
@LivernoisMotorsports
@LivernoisMotorsports 3 года назад
While tuning can void your warranty, this is a gross oversimplification. But if you are saying that the total number of failed engines is a higher number (not percentage wise) with tunes than without, sorry, that's not possible. The vast majority of people do not modify their vehicles calibration, yet they still fail engines, some at such a high rate that dealerships keep them on the shelf ready to go at a moments notice. This is from every manufacturer, no matter the make. GM had their LS7 and L92 Valve drop issue, their DOD/AFM lifter problems, Ford has their 3V cam phaser issues, 3.5 EcoBoost water pump and timing chain issues, 2.3 Head gasket problems, and Chrysler their 3.6 rocker arm, 5.7 MDS failures, and hemi water pump failures. Basically, that a tune may be installed on an engine that fails, but it does not mean that the tune caused it to fail as there are substantial warranty repairs on engines without modifications.
@laszlovass7326
@laszlovass7326 3 года назад
Ford will definitely use this as a warranty denial. Ford denied me warranty work on totally stock vehicles, especially the 6.0 powerjoke, and hated it when I would then diagnose it in the parking lot with the tech present, and then they had to perform the warranty repairs. Truth is, each dealer will treat you differently, but my local dealer is very discouraging. Great to see the tunes, atleast if you blow a motor it does not cost what the new powerstroke would and you could probably do it at home! That 7.3 looks reasonable for any private mechanic to work on. Would love to get one of these trucks in the next year.

@@LivernoisMotorsports however "crushes the competition" is not nearly accurate, and more emotion/hype with only 11 while being bigger anyways. Look, I am a long time GM gas "for a reason", the actual right reason. And during the decades of better power from more efficient engines than anyone, Ford was still "selling more trucks" but not because they were better. It was hype then too, puffery/advertising, many factors other than them being mechanically better. Then you could more easily and cheaper build and tune GM trucks/LS engines for more power than Ford or Dodge. But I'm first a Realist, not a hype person. And so I am literally here seeing your video after others, to verify if I'd consider one if the performance and potential performance are rightly there finally with Ford. So I just hear you say something of hype basis and not reality. You can certainly get excited about something but making statements outside what your business and auto understanding should be, doesn't fare well for many people. Talking like you don't know what you should leaves bad taste. Further evidenced by mention of this engine "replaced the 6.2" when it didn't. Just another thing you should know and easily verify if you were really in the truck industry working on and doing "continuing education" for your craft. If I'm not mistaken, your improvements for this 7.3 are lower than others as well. So, too many things come together to let you know that you should tighten up your game, even minus the last point about the improvements, again in case I'm mistaken. Just constructive feedback, if it matters well to you.

@@HTSS8 The long term intent for this engine is to replace multiple engine's in it's lineup. the 6.2 F250/F350 (and since this is an F250, it is specifically going to replace it as the 6.2 is phased out) as well as the 6.8 V10 in F53, and potentially E-series. So it's still a true statement that it's the eventual replacement for 6.2L. Your argument is sort of similar to what people said in the early 90's that the 4.6 wasn't the replacement for the 5.0, just because they kept making the 5.0 alongside it, but eventually, everything that had a 302/351 got some form of modular engine replacing them. Ford has always had a "slow death march" to discontinuing it's gasoline powertrains. So using the argument that they still make the 6.2L, so the 7.3L can't be it's replacement doesn't hold much water. So after the 93 octane tune, it's making about 400 hp at the crank... That's pretty lame. A 2.7L EcoBoost with a tune will be pushing 450-470 with almost 500 ft-lb of torque. The 3.0L EcoBoost and 3.5L EcoBoost with tunes are pushing 600 hp with well over 500 ft-lb torque. Granted the 7.3L V8 seems more robust overall, but you're going to need a blower on the 7.3 or a super serious cam to make this engine fly on a Mustang/car swap.
@LivernoisMotorsports
@LivernoisMotorsports 4 года назад
We're not sure where that math is coming from. These make 430hp stock and a heavy duty truck has far more loss through the drivetrain than a 1/2 ton truck does.
