James, since you're a big fan of Robert Plant's solo records, I think you'd also enjoy another veteran's releases of the 2000s. J. Geils Band's Peter Wolf latest work has been very well-received. The albums are called "Sleepless", "Midnight Souvenirs", and "A Cure for Loneliness". I'm also very optimistic about artists who are now in their 70s (like Peter Wolf is) and I'm sure that a lot of them will push boundaries and make new records for another 15, maybe even 20 years!
Dude...you mentioned a possible/hypothetical/desired U2 release in 2020?! Forty years after "Boy" and I can s-t-i-l-l feel how excited I got back in the day first hearing The Edge's guitar shred thru 'I Will Follow'. Yes...a U2 treat in 2020 would be both alliterative and appealing. Cheers!

Billy Joel has stated publicly MANY times that he is not writing popular music and will never make a pop record again. It's too bad, but I think you will be disappointed hoping for a new Billy Joel album. On the other hand, Ron Wood has stated that The Rolling Stones are currently working on a studio album.
