2020 BMW X2 M35i Review - Start Up, Revs, Test Drive and Walk Around 

For me, it was a close choice between the X2 M35i and X3 M40i. The M40i won out mainly because I was able to get one with a crazy discount with only 1500 miles. Both vehicles are great 👍🏻

you're getting too caught up in the category focused terminology of the auto makers. This isn't a cross-over. I would argue that the entire category of cross over is just a marketing ploy created by certain nervous "mostly German" automakers to avoid using the terms "hatch back" or "station wagon" here in the USA. This car IS a hatchback... in the case of this M lite version it's more of a hot hatch. (ie: VW Golf R) When you show the photo of the X2 M35 parked next to your GTI, the two cars appear remarkably similar in size because they are virtually the same size in every dimension & both with 4 doors and a hatchback I presume. BMW, Audi, and MB avoid using terms like hatchback and station wagon here in the states because attaching those terms to a "premium brand" is the kiss of death. They use words like Avant or Estate and of course cross over, sport back etc. You will still find the word Wagon on their websites but very rarely will you actually find a station wagon at any American dealership. I would bet that it was the Germans that decided to use the term cross over here. I like the term better when referencing musical artists or when mentioning a bridge over water. The vagary is almost comical when used to describe a car to the extent that most people can't even define what a cross over really is but they know one when they see one.

How is the ride quality? I have read reviews that said it has a very harsh ride.

I have the m35i sine 2019 and i still love it. and yes i do agree its a little weak in terms of value, but. its a very fun and capable car. its very golf R, WRX, GLA35, Civis Si like in terms of the way it drives.

Horribile colour. Never liked it when it came out and it's also available on the Z4. Audi also do a similar colour called Turbo Blue Any thing sports oriented should only be bought in safe colours like white, black or red. Any other colours would tend to put buyers off.

Love my electric blue 2020 BMW X2 M35i. Stiff ride, but you just don't care because. it's. so. much. fun.

It is a very fun car. For the money, however, one of BMW's sedans may be a little more comfortable and practical.

The blue is definitely growing on me.
