Calling these two 'whales' is an insult to actual whales for am sure even whales have lower drag coefficent than any of these two. They're more like actual houses on wheels. Interesting to see FULL SIZE SUVs in a head2head. The G63 totally stands no chance even if it had more torque and power. Just no chance at all. From a dig however, that'd be a totally different story.
@Montro-City Haha. That’s a good point. Might as well be brick houses that are racing at this point. Wish we had a chance to do a dig, but the event was a rolling one and not set up for digs.
Bmw x7 drag coefficient is 0.32, thats actually good for a suv especially that has a shape like that, but g63 has 0.54... so blame the g wagon not the x7.
Just got my wife the '21 BMW X7 M50i - we are blown away with the power, tech, comfort, and presence. Overall an amazing vehicle from every aspect! BMW all the way. The XB7 uses the same engine and has a few more horses - just wasn't worth the increase for our needs.
These two were really close, but this race boiled down to aerodynamics. Ball and box analogy sort to speak. However, if you put it against the GLS63 AMG....hmmmm.
X7 M50i is a rival to a GLS560 not the g63. The XB7 Alpina is rival to the G63 but it’s no competition as the Alpina is far more luxurious dynamic and exclusive
Julian Henze my bad. I meant the xb7 which is more comfortable than g63 and gls63 put together. Better interior build quality. Quicker. Dynamics which defy physics and elegant Road presence in the right spec. They also golf their value really well however Finance packages are really expensive due to their exclusivity
@@santana9537 The XB7 Alpina is more compared to the upcoming GLS Maybach, even though the Maybach has 550 hp compared to the 612hp on the XB7. It sucks that MB wouldn't tune their V8 to make 500+ instead of 483. Thats where it would really compete with the X7 M50. Might just have to get the Renntech or Weistec tune, lol.
The new G Wagon’s interior has been upgraded from horrific to luxury suv average. The X7 is in another league of opulent and luxury. When the strait roads turn twisty, the X7 M50i will hand the G Wagon its ass in handling more than just a couple of car lengths. That BMW DHP turns it into a sports sedan. I do wish you would have done a full launch as the BMW’s launch control would have taken it by a few car lengths and by 45mph it would be a all over.
As always, great video. My buddy sent me a pic of that x7 back on the 5th when it was a the track. Can you tell me the brand of the rims? Looking for my X5 M50i.
@Chris W Thanks. Those are BC Forged Wheels. Not sure which model or what that finish is though. Side note - Do you know if they make spacers for our cars (X5/X6)? I’m trying to push out my stock 22s a little more for a wider stance.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Thank you for the reply. I looked up the rims options. Great selection. Now need to decide between them or Vossen. Really want 11" to 11.5" width on rear. The F15 staggered set up had 11" with the 315's. Just looks more beefy and more noticeable. Yes, H&R make some. ECU tuning online has them. I also think Ben at RG Sports has them. They range from 10mm to 15mm. Any plans to update your springs on the X6? I can't remember if you had the air suspension or not.
@@Azzan77 presence yes. Comfort definitely not. My elder brother has a 2019 G63 and on UK roads it is terrible and the inteiror quality isn’t what a Mercedes should have. It’s disappointing and a waste of money, rather get a Bentayga
@@santana9537 it’s a G the interior is luxury but should be rough at the same time it shouldn’t be soft like a bentayga, and I prefer the G Class interior over the bentayga’s.
@@santana9537 man you’re the funniest person I have talked to, the range rover svr is the quickest and still didn’t beat the AMG G63 look at the drag race’s on RU-vid 😂
I have to agree that from afar, the new G Class, especially with such similar DRL design, does tend to loo like a DL Wrangler. Most pedestrians won't be able to tell the difference till they see the Benz logo.
Good job Ace, did you find the dolphin in one of the trucks? All kidding aside, I thought the G would win but even after getting the jump, you still passed it with the BMW. I agree with other comments there's a drag coefficient disadvantage but do you think it played that much of a role? The X7 isn't a race car either.
Thanks Francois! I thought he had me on that second run too. I don’t think the drag co-efficient is much better in the BMW to be honest, both cars are essentially square boxes with one being slightly less square. I’m sure it plays a more significant role past 100MPH but I believe I was already ahead of the G63 at that point.
@@DanWangFilms I believe so as well, you reeled him in at higher speed. I'm just very surprised by the results. Do you think the torque numbers would provide a different result from a dig? I really like both cars and even owning a couple of Mercedes, I really don't care much about the G. I believe most people that buy it do so only to flex and that's pretty much it. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely people that buy it and use it's power but probably not the majority. All points to the X7 being a more logical choice, price and performance considered.
@@francoisboisvert1591 The G63 is really impressive from a dig. I've seen it run 4 seconds in the 0-60 and almost beat a stock X3M to the 1/4. So it's likely that that torque is enough to put it far ahead enough to where the X7M50 wouldn't be able to reel it in. The M50 has good launch control too though, but it's more in line with a 4.4-4.5 second time where as the G63 is capable of faster than what Mercedes claims. I'm with you on the flex thing. It's really just a status symbol. Even if I could afford one, I prefer cars in the same segment that get me better value as a car overall.
Love your video, different market on both, you can't get one G class in our country, the wait time is 2 to 3 years if you are qualified to buy one... they are sold before they come, even though it is more expensive and slower 😅😅😅 it is just a cool car in my opinion. BMW is better value but cheaper in class.
Well shit, I made it This is an interesting matchup though I’m pretty sure the G63 will win Beautiful trucks Damn almost a half mile 5,900 lbs Jesus Christ That’s great for 5,900 lbs lol 0-60 Saw a 2021 alpina B7 the other day. Beautiful car This should be interesting I like how the x7 just drove over the camera lol Holy shit the X7 is pulling. Probably due to the better aero. Nice slow motion at the end Bruh the X7 is owning this G63 wtf Ok g63 just missed a gear and hit fuel cutoff. Rip Shocking results indeed The X6 in the background looks epic bro. I love the grille I see youve changed up your hairstyle. Interesting indeed X7 all the way dude. Those other options are good too Sorry I’m short worded, just have been tired lately. Hope you’ve been holding up better. Sweet video, this was very interesting to see
All good bro. Glad to hear that your car is alright. The XB7 is really a gorgeous car. If it were up to me, I’d probably go that route instead of the G63. Just too flashy for me. If the normal X7M50 beat it this bad, imagine the Alpina. It’ll be quick for a 3 ton SUV. My hair is like that because I haven’t had time to get a haircut lol.
One guy in hellcat wouldn’t even look at me afterward. I couldn’t stop laughing. With the way this is geared you’d have to be mercedes fan boy to with a wagon
@ValDrin Mehmeti I wish I could. Unfortunately my friend’s X7 is not set up for towing but on paper the X7 has a higher tow capacity than the G-Wagon and I would feel safer towing with it since it has a slightly longer wheelbase.
My family consists of 7 people, so the X7 is be the logical choice, and I'm a long time bimmer driver, drove a ton of other cars but like the driving dynamics of BMW, so in the end I always come back to BMW
I would buy the G Wagon as I am not into fast SUV'S. I am more into the offroad models so I would also ditch the massive rims so my tires had more sidewall to let the air out of my tires when Hitting harder trails.
@@munenejoe6682 Both models will get beat by the Uris i know this because i own a X6M Comp. I have a perfect response rate and I shift manually and the URIS wins everything its not even close. Lamborghini has made a very impressive SUV
G-wagons are over-priced status symbols... it's laughable the dealers charging 15-40% over MSRP for those care... even used ones!!! I've driven both - the BMW is a superior car in every way... and you don't have to pay over MSRP...
