Cimarron, Catera, ATS, the list of small or entry-level Cadillac sedans is not exactly a greatest hits album. Though with the ATS’ steady rise up the charts, it looked like finally to be the one. However it turns out it was another one-hit wonder, as once again, Cadillac is rebooting with a new name, the CT4. let’s see if buyers will be singing its praises!

Glad to see US car makers finally creating what at least seems to be high quality cars. And with BMW going all Hapsburg Chin with their front ends, the design of this car isn't half bad. Truth be told, however, I think Cadillac should've made an attempt to make the front end lower, because as is right now, the car looks more narrow than it really is.

Of the two Cadillac sedans left in the lineup, the CT4 is without question, the better looking of them. But, adjectives like "fighter-pilot", or "boy racer" come to mind instead of "luxury" or even "Cadillac." And, maybe not "Cimmaron," but even "Catera" is a better name than the alphanumeric and alphabet soup Cadillac has been serving lately. I wish they would stop with the gimmicky names (including the forthcoming "-iq" suffixed labels, which in my mind make the division seem generic and mainstream) and "The Jetsons" inspired styling and get back to embracing their heritage! That "Escala" inspired front end is fine, but I say, put that damned wreath back under that shield where it belongs, lose the "wrap-into-the-catwalk" look and go back to a simple bladed taillight design, keep at least one sedan on the road to all-electric power, and get back to the business of building Cadillacs before they go the way of the Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Saturns (talk about gimmick!) and of course, the dodo bird (possibly another GM product!) I ❤ Motorweek! 🐰

Please stop trying to ruin every Cadillac’s ride. “It’s ride is tuned for comfort” It’s a CADILLAC! Why do you want a race Cadillac? Cadillac has created several beautiful concepts over the years and not produced any of them. Shame...

GM, here's a thought: Drop the wimpy little four-pots -- you're no good at building them. Everything in a Cadillac should be a V8 of varying displacement and power. Take a page from Maserati's Trofeo and GTS lines. Luxury cars, TRUE luxury cars need V8s. Plus, short of an AMG or a high-end M car or RS Audi, you'll be one of the few automakers sticking by that engine architecture. Hybridize them to keep them relevant and keep sinking research into improving their efficiency.
@ragingbull94mtx
@ragingbull94mtx 3 года назад
You're talking about moving Cadillac up-market. They tried that with the CT6 and previously the XLR. Didn't go so well. I think Cadillac has established itself as a great entry-to-mid level luxury car. I'm all for them being the pinnacle of American luxury and performance, but trying to go after a brand like Maserati based solely on prestige is a fool's errand. V8 is coming for the CT5-V Blackwing, but the opportunity to build this mythical one-size-fits-all V8 you speak of died with the CT6. They need to sell the "wimpy little four-pots" to finance the design, engineering, and tooling for the "TRUE" luxury cars you want to see so much of. Why do you think Maserati went DOWN market with the Ghibli? :) Because you can't run that kind of business selling just Gran Turismos and Quattroportes - not for long anyway.
@jonathana2079

Not everyone wants to be in a Cadillac. I wish GM would introduce a Buick version that rides smoothly and quietly and that maybe has a bit less tech so that there is better reliability. Cadillac is not a brand that I aspire to. Frankly, I do not understand why GM insists that Cadillac compete with the BMW 3 and 4 series. Cadillac's priority should be its large cars where there is more profit and buyer recognition of the product. The Chevy Camaro would be a better fit to take on the BMW 3 and 4 series. I always see Cadillac as a luxury brand but not a performance one and I do not understand why GM is investing in V versions when the brand does not have a reputation for such products.

The next generation cars will start arriving in the next 2-5 years. media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/home.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2020/mar/0304-ev.html You can't be *that* thirsty for an electric Cadillac. If you are, why not put a deposit on the new Lyric, slated to be released Spring 2022?

@@mikek5298 come on, Mike. Wake up and smell the roses. You and I may not like electric cars, but, for better or worse, they ARE the future. Fossil fuel-powered cars will be banned from sale here in the UK in 2030. That's just ten years from now. Today, we had the UK's first Electric-only service station open - it even has exercise bikes that assist with charging the vehicle. (I am not making that up). Cadillac is supposed to be aspirational, and be GM's leading brand, so it should be at the forefront at the switch to alternative power, not playing catchup with the likes of Toyota and Kia. Sadly, not offering any electric power kills the chances for this vehicle outside of the US. It looks gorgeous though.
@MrTaxiRob
@MrTaxiRob 3 года назад
@@pullformore it sounds good on paper, but in the US you're basically dead if you don't own a car, and NONE of the major manufacturers are rushing any electric fleet vehicles, light trucks or vans to market for the tradespeople who need them. We don't need $80k pickup trucks with leather seats and satellite nav, we need ones that let us afford to feed our kids.

The front looks good - then once you get past the headlights it just looks like a Chevy and is pretty generic. I've owned two Cadillac's before switching to BMW because of that god awful mid-2010s CUE system, and this isn't going to get me back in the door. They did the same thing with the Escalade - made it look more like a Chevy. Not sure Cadillac understands what brought the brand back to life, the CTS - it was in the Matrix - it looked different, cutting edge. This just looks like a Malibu.

I switched from BMW 3 series to Cadillac ATS when the BMW F30 came out. The ATS handles, steers and stops significantly better
@rodmunch69
@rodmunch69 3 года назад
@@coreys9434 When I bought my 4-series, I test drove the ATS first and it was great - certainly not significantly better, but very close. The 4-series is a bit larger, so in that regard I'd say the the turbo-4 ATS probably handed a tiny bit better, but it was very close. The BMW was faster and stopped a bit better, although, again it was close. I owned CTS's and liked them, and I went to the Caddy dealer first expecting to get the ATS but the stupid CUE system was so slow and unresponsive I ended up the BMW dealer. The 4-series had just came out, literally the day before the dealer got their first 428i and a 435i, I test drove both and actually liked the 428i better as it handled much better than the front heavy 435i. BTW, same with the ATS, the turbo-4 ATS handled way better and was a lot more fun to drive than the V6 model - even though the V6 model was a lot faster. I had owned the Caddy's, a couple of Corvettes, a GTO, a Camaro, a Mustang - so I like speed, but was shocked at how much more fun to drive the lighter cars were - plus the 428i still had a near 5.0 0-60, so it wasn't slow, even with a turbo-4. I think the ATS turbo-4 was closer to 6.0 0-60. Regardless I really liked the ATS, getting it white with a merlot interior, but man was that CUE system terrible, slow and unresponsive. Had they had a better entertainment system I wouldn't have switched.

Cadillac models names don’t identify with their core buyers, Americans. Everyone knows what a Cadillac Escalade is but who besides a CT whatever owner can tell you what it is. Cadillac seems to be chasing its own tail. Does it compete with the Europeans, the Japanese or Lincoln? It certainly can’t compete with the European and Japanese luxury brands. Even the Koreans are starting to make Cadillacs look cheap. Cadillac’s chances of ever being a world Leading luxury brand again is hobbled by one thing. General Motors.
