Do you remember what size the pipe was on the secondary cats? I live in CA and i'm gonna cut mine out, but i'm gonna weld flanges to them and the exhaust pipe so i can bolt up the cats again when it's time to smog my camaro XD. also did it actually get any louder? mine has a muffler delete, talk about snap crackle pop lol.
i did same thing on my 21 ss, didn't truly notice any sound diffuser except better throttle response and more drone at lower RPM lol, have you thought about adding an extra x pipe before the x section
For the 5th gen SS, I believe it goes from either a 2.75-2.5” taper at the last flange after the 2nd cats. I’m pretty sure they used 2.5” piping on my downpipes in place of the 2nd cat deletes. 2.75” would throw off the flow a teeny bit from being a bit larger in that catless pipe section, but nothing even remotely troublesome whatsoever. I actually wanted to go with shorty headers that bolt onto the stock downpipes, but I was gonna get custom HFC’d full 3” downpipes. And then from there, I’d build a full 3” catback with an h-pipe maybe. Straight-through mufflers or a muffler delete on the stock catback is already as restrictive-removing on the exhaust system as it is. The automatics have an extra suitcase resonator, while the manual ones don’t have any resonators. I actually ended up getting two 12” resonators welded in, to kill off some more overall around rasp, drone, and loudness.
Does it still pop when it the exhaust gets warm? My 18 SS 1LE will only pop for the first few minutes of driving and then it's gone. Did it make the tone any deeper or is it just louder and a little more raspy? I'm considering having this done soon. The shop I have my work done at said it would be $80 per cat.

Hey! It did not at all. Just be careful to do a good job welding.. any pin holes in the welds could cause a CEL. Also remove the 02 sesor before welding. Ive seen some say weld splatter will get on it and ruin it causing a CEL.
