2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Review - First Drive

I honestly think the previous generation of Silverados (2014-2018) were much better-looking than this new one. It was aggressive-looking, the perfect amount of modern design, muscular lines. The front end on the new one looks disproportionately tall and has an odd shape. And the fenders aren’t square and don’t have those beautiful squared-off flares. It looks like it was designed in Japan. This has possibly been the worst fall from grace for Chevy pickups (design wise) since the 1998 to 1999 model years.

What a 2005 GMC Canyon looks like in 2500 HD trim. No wonder Ram is overtaking 2nd spot now.

GM needs to put Dual Injection (both Multi-Port and Direct Injection) on their engines. They would have more power and mileage, but more importantly they wouldn't be plagued with Direct Injections intake valve carbon build up problems, which in some cases happens as early as 20,000 miles. All new Ford F-150 engines as well as many new Toyota engines now have Dual Injection, but they keep it hushed, Toyota even advertising them as Direct Injection, to try and keep the public in the dark about Direct Injections issues, since the majority of their engines, especially the smaller and turbo engines are all Direct Injected. Fords new 7.3L gas V8 retains the proven Multi-Port Injection.

The front looks like an angry air conditioner.

Other than reliability, seat comfort is the most important item on a truck. When you spend 4 to 5 hours in a truck per day as most contractors do. He mentions front seat comfort as an issue....

Sure this is a different design but it takes time to grow on you. Though I do prefer the 2019 look but maybe this was just a test to see if the people like it.

Initial reports sounds like this much anticipated gas update is an underperformer. It will b interesting to see how the new 7.3 gas will drive and pull.

If I had my choice I would prefer a straight front axle. But after doing some Towing with an F450 It almost changed my mind pretty fast. Also towed a big Cat skid steer with a 5500 Dodge and they both kind of wanted to wander especially on worn out roads. Then I drove a 2001 4x4 3500 Chevrolet With Ifs And it was a whole different experience. It felt like I was towing my utility trailer with a half ton. no wandering or bouncing Coming up through the steering column. Out on the interstate it just felt better So I’m sure these new ones really do good. Even with all the miles that Truck had on the front end felt so much more dialed in.

I'm disappointed you didn't use the high country. Even though you had it access to it because you showed it in the video! It is way nicer than the LT trim

Why can't they match the pillars and roof to the color of the interior? I hate the ugly looking grey they put. Looks tacky.

I am returning my 2019 2500 ram due to poor performance and some many recalls, amd ford are also coming with some problems on their 2020 engines. So I will try a Silverado, actually I really haven't heard that many complaints of the new ones.

Man, I think both the new 2500 and especially the 1500 look awesome. The 2019 1500 drives far and away better than any Silverado I've ever driven.

GM got a lot right but soooo much right but do two things before driving the Chevy. First drive the Ford equivalent trim model. You’ll realize the 2015 Ford design interior is better, quite a bit better. Then drive the Ram equivalent trim. You’ll be blown away how much better the Ram is than Fords interior which is better than the GM interiors. I watch a Chevy show representative answer the question, why does your new interior look exactly like your previous generation? The rep said “we believe the interior design of our previous generation was good enough, meeting the most important needs of our clients”. The interviewer said, really?!! At the end of the show, the interviewer said it’s amazing that GM would be so arrogant as to say “this is what we feel the buyer needs” when the market has said over and over buyers want great cutting edge design, in particular when they are looking at upper trim levels.

Two thumbs down .. the interior still looks the same nothing to see there. But the exterior of the truck wow that thing looks weird not loving the mirrors or the front end or the interior.

Wrong it's not a allison, gm/ford made the 10 speed automatic, not allison. Allison does not make a 10 speed. GM is just using the branding, false advertising

The 10 speed is a Ford-GM joint venture transmission that GM is rebranding as an Allison.

The 2020 hd Silverado will haunt the Chevy industry for the rest of its production years. I am embarrassed to be a Chevy owner with this new HD. I’ll wait till that fugly grill changes before I trade my truck in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diehard Chevy fan here. But this vehicle is not gonna do it for me. For the first time since the late 1980s I found myself On the lot of a Ford dealer looking at a new Super DutyF250. The Ford is just a more handsome truck. Chevy knocked it out of the park with the new Corvette, but struck out miserably with this thing.

Meh I think the colorado 2021 z71 looks better and would be a better fit for my budget and what I will actually use it for. For such a high sub count this has little to no views or thumbs up or down. Means most have stopped tuning into this channel perhaps because the reviews kind of suck and are boring.

When Chevy starts making trucks again, I'll think about buying one. Chevy, please fire your entire design team.

They are building trucks that are not saleable. Missing parts and safety issues like welding a weak spot on cab frame to hide the issue. Just pushing them out with issues just to make the customers worry under warranty. Be pushed out without being fixed on line just to get numbers, but you can drive around Flint Michigan and see trucks all over sitting in parking lots waiting on to they are able to get to them to fix issues. They even have them sitting at airport. The moral in the plant is bad, no one wants to check and make sure they are building good trucks for customers, gm is hoping it makes it to customer and then it's not their problem anymore. Don't invest in this truck for a long time especially with contracts coming up and so much fighting going on in ranks.

The new Silverado Duramax is the best 3/4 ton HD in its class. But the nose is butt ugly and the truck gained a lot of weight in a time when the industry is cutting pounds across the board in trucks. The interior seems dated compared to the Ram which is IMO the most handsome of them all, inside and out. The Ram just leaves them in the weeds on tech and materials quality. But the new Duramax engine and its 10 speed is gonna be hard to beat. Just love that diesel.
