Thanks for the video! Great comparison by 2 normal users like us regular Joe's! They are very evenly matched, both great machines. We are going with the Yamaha simply because of no need to change belts or clutch that seems to be an issue on the Polaris forums. Either way, both are a good choice! To each their own!
Race @ 18:58 Thank you for posting this!!! Both are great machines. During the race the General got a small headstart but the Rmax came back and passed the General. Then the General passed back at the end either to higher top speed or little better top end power or both. Thanks again.
Both look really nice. Love my Rmax. 2021 rmax2 le. I can tell you for sure it’s faster than the one you were driving. Because according to the GPS speedo I had it going 73 last night and it did not hesitate at all getting there.
Our dealer sells all the major brands. The salesman that helped me wouldn’t bad mouth any of the brands, but when I pressured him on what he would buy. He said he would buy the Yamaha any day of the week.
i am 6'4 270 I love my rmax. My only issue you is the carnivores clean supper good, the mud gets in the cab. outside of the that it runs great, looks like the flares kept the mud down pretty well.
How you gonna fill it with gas while it's in the trailer anyways? If it so tight you can get the door open, the you're not gonna be filling it with gas from a gas can
I think both are good machines. I’d probably lean towards the Rmax because I like the cvt set up better. A good thing in the General’s direction is the availability of dealerships if you are a long way from home and need a part.
@@jhmotorsports7692 yep. Always have to weigh the options. I have a RZR 900 S currently that I bought about 2.5 years ago. I wish I would have gotten the General for the dump bed. I had a Grizzly 550 prior to the RZR. Going stock RMax vs stock General I’d go RMax or whichever dealer gave me the sweetest deal. I think they are both good machines overall.
That Rmax sounds almost like a v8 when you let of the gas , I think I would definitely need the heater installed for the yamaha Rmax. Think I definitely go with the Rmax over the general.
I have a General 2 which I love, and I'm 6'4. Although I think the Rmax is a little better machine at 6'7 you should of got the General 4 and customized it to make the driver seat go further back!(wish I'd done that) Dude, cut those stupid shoulder protectors off and put 4 point harnesses in.
Still drivin my 2004 Rhino in VERY great shape up in northern Mn. One of the first made, bought it new , no issuses not even a belt knock on wood. Would love to have that Rmax............ 12:35 front flat on that General, bad ride because of it..........
Hey jeremy, nice video man, really nice to see two guys give an honest review and not be so brand loyal... I think both machines are very nice, I'm looking at selling my Grizzly and getting a 4 seater sxs (growing family) the rmax is my choice right now, I like how the 4 seater is only about 4" longer than the 2 seater, where the General is much longer, with my riding style and the terrain where I am, I don't want to give up that clearance and get hung up. I sure love the look of that general though, great looking machine. Polaris always had very smooth ride. Cheers man !
Didnt you tune your general for that extra 10-15hp? and removed the limiter? added a clutch/changed if i remember right? Btw great content, no ones really doing any non biased reviews about these two sxs, thanks for uploading.
Jeremy, in your honest opinion.....which has the most power throughout the powerband. Not drag racing but real life driving? I almost pulled the trigger today on a Grey rmax2 but it was a shady dealership....
Pretty similar. Wish the rmax had turf mode. Also wish the rmax 4 seater had better foot/leg room in the rear. Went to see one with the intention of buying but the back seat room was not really for adults. Wish Kawasaki would make the teryx4 a 1000cc. That was a comfy well priced machine. Great vid guys!
Weird, I’m 6’4” 220 and rode in the back while my parents were driving mine and had no issues, was actually surprised how deep the foot wells were compared to our general. I will say it does seem deceiving visually but real world driving was better in the Rmax4 vs General XP 4
Great review guys, been waiting for a good comparison of the 2. Still kinda sold on the RMAX as I fall into the bigger guy group. Looks like the General has a higher top end while the RMAX has better acceleration?
His general has 32’s , if it had factory 30’s or the r’max had 32’s the Polaris would have got it in the drag . As far as the “cabin” area I feel the Polaris has more room . It’s weird to think that guy thinks the Yamaha does . Go sit in both machines . Definitely roomier in the popo
Is it possible you guys could do engine bay video ? I’m curious to see what the rmax is like compared to the new commander for maintenance and accessibility.
Excellent video. These two machines are very very similar and I test drove both. This is only my opinion and what I found out. YAMAHA Rmax (Likes) Power, 8 more HP, 10-year belt warranty, engine redline only 8500 RPM, easier to shift, pre-cut toggle switch spots, I Rank Yamaha one notch better for dependability, (Dislikes) No turf mode, Verry little center council room, I could not fit my cellphone and wallet in it, No outside door handle, if you put any type of window in it how do you open it? can't remove doors without losing your speakers, for farm use picking rock, again that won't pertain to anyone else, When you pull the ebrake but not hard enough and step on the gas it will still drive and wear out your ebrake. This happens to me when I let my Dad drive my things. Less radio reception, 5 oil plugs to change oil 20 min and 4 Qt. Not a fan of the shoulder pad. POLARIS GENERAL (Likes) Easy door removal for 2 weeks out of the year for rock picking and stereo still works, 5 min oil change 2.5 Qt, Very good stereo reception, 52oz bubba keg will fit inside the center council with the cover closed, Turf mode differential will not tear up your lawn, Shoulder pad built into the door, (Dislikes) Not as smooth to shift, engine redline 9400 RPM These engines seem to over-rev a lot when not driving hard, Less dependable, My opinion only my Last Polaris Ranger lasted me 9 years and the only problem I ever had was a torn cv boot but I also Raced Motocross for Many years with Yamaha and they were bulletproof 4 strokes, ++++ I bought the General 4 days ago it checked my boxes better and I love it. Both machines are awesome. it was a tuff decision, The dealer is 10 miles from my house compared to 40 and I know the guys that work there.
I'm considering buying a sxs for rock picking too. I suppose it's a lot easier than driving around in a pickup. Plus I don't like driving a pickup over the ground after seeding. I suppose a sxs wouldn't be so bad. Do you seem to find other good uses on the farm for a sxs?
Awesome thanks for doing the comparison. I’m looking at getting into either the Polaris or the Yamaha soon. I have heard Can am is coming coming out with something to compete with them both next month. So kinda waiting on that. My question is, did one feel more top heavy or tippy?
Great comparison between the two. I wish Kawasaki would truly upgrade their Teryx/Teryx 4 line to compete with these two in the power and suspension department. The T4 is very roomy however.
Like the real world, real guy conversation on these machines. I have a rmax4 xtr on order, so waiting patiently. I've read the rmax bolt covers on the muffler fall off... sure enough the middle one is missing on yours. Lol. What brand or where did you buy the seat heaters?
I cut my shoulder restraints off on my rmax after first ride I found while driving my arm was always over on the outside of it my thought was I’d rather take a shoulder hit to the ground than have that guard get pinched in between my arm and chest I don’t think that would be good at all. So much more comfortable riding with that being gone
Thanks guys , good video! I just bought the 2023 RMAX XTR, I really like those fender flares on your RMAX, can you tell me what brand and where you bought those?
I'm a big guy as well 6'5" I had the general but got rid of it because I was cramped in it. Also the general I was always smelling the belt. Bottom line which unit is roomier for interior. FYI if get im definitely removing the shoulder pads.
nice comparison. we own a 2017 Yamaha Wolverine and looked at buying the General but in the end our local Polaris dealer sucks to do business with. in the end they're both (the polaris and the yamaha) sport utility and not true full sport machines and they can to that really well, but as far as jumping and rock crawling, ya not so much- but they aren't designed for that. on a Yamaha there is no rear differential so a turf mode would be my only want, as turning sharp does tear up the grass/gravel in the driveway. i would like to see a comparison of decelerating from top speed in both w/in car cameras without using the brake, the Yamaha has a one way clutch in the main clutch that gives you engine braking whereas Polaris does not (which is supposed to be one of the factors why Polaris goes through belts), do you get a whole lotta neutral or what does act like on decel? for what it's worth: we also own a KRX1000 and driving in a full sport machine vs. a sport utility machine is a night and day difference. but they both have specific strong points. they both do good on the backwoods roads, but to go hunting or work on the ranch, i use the Wolverine. the suspension is too soft in the KRX for ranch work, but then again i can full send it off a jump and it'll land smooth, whereas a sport-utility machine such as the Wolverine or the General will usually front endo and bottom out such as seen here. each one has a strong point for a reason.
Take the shoulder bolster off maybe a short window net could help in a roll but give you the shoulder room? Just thinking I want the Yamaha so trying to see what the options are m,thanks guys good stuff!
did I miss something?? That was a great Yamaha review but very little about the Polaris?? No video of the Polaris going over the jumps, no onboard video of the Polaris going down trails etc...?? I am going back and forth between these two models and based on my experience with both brands I am leaning towards the Polaris but I want to know how they go. I drove a Teryx 800 and the motor was screaming at 25 mph, you couldnt hear a thing if you had someone next to you, the motor vibration coming up through the floor was shocking at 25mph, I cant imagine 40 or 50
I'm a Yamaha fan and have been wanting both Yamaha and Honda to catch up in this market. That said I think the Yamaha Rmax is ugly (just my personal preference) and still has a way to go until they overtake the general. Did Yamaha hire a dune buggy builder from the 70's for the design?
Just got my Rmax and it is VERY loud. Headset ear protection is a must. No way you can talk to a passenger unless you let up on the gas and roll to a stop.
I might have been cause the rmaxx driver wad letting off the gas too soon causing the rear to catapult off the jump. Didnt get to see the polaris jumping . Was hoping to get a quick glance just to compare. Very nice machines though guys.
Alot of that nose heavy jumping can be resolved via suspension preload changes and throttle input. I have read the Rmax balances front to rear pretty well actually.
I own neither but my observation from reading the comments is that Yamaha fans are really sensitive to criticism, not sure what to take from that.. Good video, thanks.
Thanks for the review, I'll show it to my buddy who's on the fence right now. On a side note what's your option on the leveling kit you have on your XP? I would like to get one instead of having my shocks cranked all the time but have heard some negativity about the ride after install. Tks again
Great Video Guys Agree With the guy who owns Rmax I own a 2018 general 2 seater I'm 6'7" 230 very cramped my knee hits my 4wd switch and puts machine in turf mode 🤔 and sence I wear glasses I can Never See The Little dot Showing its in turf mode,Iv changed my suspension 2 times doing it one more time going with your 2020xp rear arms I have to modify my frame for a-arms and all turbo rzr front suspension GREAT VIDEO GUYS 👍👍👍
Polaris makes a faster machine but everyone I’ve ever road with that owned a Polaris says the same things parts break and the belts slip to much if it ain’t a Honda or Yamaha I can’t mess with it
I ride at the Glamis dunes and also the hard pack east of Glamis near the Colorado River. Looked at a General today....very nice...but have always thought fit and finish on the Japanese was the best. I need a dual purpose buggy....is the KRX a good dual purpose vehicle?
I have a 2020 Yamaha Wolverine X2 XT-R with a Warn Plow less than 20 miles on it, and the plow has not seen snow yet. Looking to trade it in on the New 2021 Rmax2 XT-R 1000 real soon. Trying to find a dealer with one is the tough part. Really want to know where you were able to get the heated Seat set up? was it from Yamaha? Great set up on the Rmax2.
I want a Yamaha with A/C and heat with a radio 📻 if Polaris and Cam Am can do it I know Yamaha can do it I’m a loyal brand customer Yamaha for life let’s get this done!🤯🔫
I have 1100 miles on my rmax and they dont bother me, but many people dont like them. I am almost positive there will be an aftermarket solution for people who dont like fabricating extensions or cleaning up cutoffs.
@@jhmotorsports7692 thank you for the reply,my use is more on the utility side and my property is all up and down so using brakes on a vehicle that runs down hill isn't the best for me.
in a steep decline and 4 wheel low and in crawl mode, the rmax will crawl at like 2 miles an hour, it has really good engine braking and with the low gear ratio you can just let it coast down steep rocky declines.
