Thomas, hi. Have not ridden the Ripmo AF yet. But ... I love the DW Link. I must be honest. Although I've been a big Specialized fan, when I first heard about the Ripmo AF at that incredible price, the first think I thought was: "Why would anyone by an alloy Stumpy if they knew about the alloy Ripmo?" DW Link just hooks up. Look for a demo. Then let us know how it compares to your Stumpy.
@@50mtb44 I would of bought one if it was available but it wasn't and the stumpy seemed to be the most bang for the buck in my price range at the time I have a couple of years before I even think about a new one but still like to window shop
My 2020 ibis Ripley V4 Large is currently weighing in at 25.1 pounds. Differences are: GX groupset, i9 Enduro S carbon wheels w/ i9 hubs, 2.4 Ardent Front and 2.35 Rekon race rear, carbon ibis bar at 750mm length. The Rekon race does give up some traction but the tire is very fast. Hope this helps anyone trying to shed weight. I really didn't do much but you can get these bikes pretty light.
Curious how tall you are and your inseam? I'm in CA and just bought an XL Ripley from a shop in UT. I'm 6'1 and have a 33" inseam. All the shops I spoke with recommended the XL unless I planned on bike parks (not). There are no demo bikes avail in CA so I wasn't able to demo but did ride an XL Tallboy which fit well. Got the Ripley because I put a premium on climbing ability and agility. Thanks!
6'2" with 32 inseam. Bike is a dream fit. Long and stable (but not a sled) compared to my old XC hardtail. After my OTB, I wanted a longer stable bike that would climb well. Ripley climbs VERY well - especially compared to the 17 other bikes I demoed. Perfect for blue trails with occasional black trail days. Still jump and pop off things. You'll love the Ripley.
Nice video. Man just picked one up in the xt build with dhfs front and back and it’s pushing 30 lbs with pedals. wth! asagai tires weigh more too. do you have any idea why? what can i do. super annoying bc u think an xt build would weigh a lot less
Mike. Hi. Had my Ripley for 18 months. Love it. Take away here ... tires. Make a huge different in ride characteristics AND weight. I rode 2.5 Assegais front and back for first 3 months in the winter. Loved the traction, hated the draggy weight. So switched to 2.35 Ardent Race. Wow! Changed the feel totally. Lost almost 2 pounds of rotational weight. Bike started flying up the mountain. I've changed tires for different seasons and terrain. Biggest difference maker. Try it. Good luck.
@@50mtb44 definitely agree. the gx build had the nobbly nics and hans damf which are on the lighter side and it weighed in at 29lbs. could it be sram components are lighter than shimano?
Sweet bike man! These imperials stuff are hard to get through. Just realised that 28.86 pounds is not the same as 28 pounds 86 ounces😅. This bike is in fact slightly above 13kg stock nx, with xc tyres. Not as light as I thought, but let’s not be weight weenie here, it is a great bike, it looks like it at least. And after checking other reviews, I might suggest you to recalibrate your scale ;)
haribouss, good insight. Will check. Definietly heavier than my old Chisel hardtail, but more capable. In the end, having a blast on Ripley 4. Amazing machine. My favorite of all that I tested by far.
50mtb At the end it is not some grams or ounces that’s gonna spoil the fun. Have a blast on your rig. :) I’m might make the same choice as you, or the freshly announced YT Izzo, mhhh difficult choice ;)
Videos like yours made me get this bike ordered it three months out got a call from the shop somebody canceled their order so I got theirs lucky me. Mine is an XT build factory suspension larg 30 pounds with pedals , Super comfortable and climbs great better than my old specialized epic thanks again
Awesome! Love the Ripley. Not only climbs great - descends great too. Just took down a black/double black trail (Dakota Ridge). Above my pay grade, but Ripley made me feel confident. Such a great machine. Be sure to keep us updated on your adventures.
Congrats! Odds are ... you are going to love it. : ) Sweet upgrade selection. Think that is the new Grip 2 on the 2021 Fox 34 Factory. Good call. The Revive dropper is cherry. Keep us updated.
Congrats! Looks awesome! Please do a video on the wrap. I’m building a bike, and I’m trying to figure out what / where I want to wrap the frame with for protection.
eog, cool. Sounds like a ful wrap can take 2-5 hours. And be a real pain in the rear. We'll find out soon. This is my first carbon frame, so a little paranoid. Going for a full wrap with Ride Wrap (InvisiFrame did not have my frame size designed yet). Hopefully we can video some of it. What bike are you building?
If going for fox for get fox factory or elite, you did not get elite, elite is same as factory apart from the coating, but you got different model. I got a fox 36 170mm with Vorsprung Smashpot coil conversion, in the rear I have ext Storia V3, coil shock, its on Nicolai/Geometron G1 so quite different bike than yours, geometry, setup and components too. But yours is light probably, but for me that's not a priority, for me it's function, performance, convince, durability, strength.
Lan, so true. Ear to ear smile. Pedal Pushers is a cool shop. Lots of Ibis bikes. Sheldon was excellent. He is an "older" mechanic (my age) who rides a new Ripley. So super knowledgeable. Walked in during lunch hour so Sheldon was covering for salesperson. Worked to my advantage. Shop has a small bar with beer for after ride war stories. Check it out.
Hi Mike - I love how excited you are about your new bike! It's so fun to watch adults all super excited about good wholesome fun! I have just ordered a Ripley and I'm itching to get back out on the trails! I'm heading over to your Ridewrap video next as I also haven't had a carbon frame before. Keep up the good work - I'm not quite 50 yet but definitely believe my best biking years are ahead of me!
David, so true. Getting the Ripley was like being 7 years old on Christmas morning. Carbon is holding up well. I was worried about it, but so far, so good. And yes, lots of good years ahead.
My bike is heavier than yours, it's around 19 some to 20kg with studded tyres. I got the same scale and it needs to be recalibrated alot. It's a large so it's 515mm reach, it has 61deg headangle and coil front back, only carbon is the Sixc35 bars.
Awesome bike and video! I got a Ripmo in April and was thinking of getting a Ripley as well since I hear so many good things about it. Probably gonna wait till this time next year to get one. Waiting for some price drops. Anyway, I am surprised about the weight difference between my Ripmo and your Ripley. I have an XL Ripmo also the NX build, upgraded to a fox factory fork and dropper post. Also upgraded to 4 piston shimano XT breaks and carbon handlebars. Everything else is pretty much stock build. My Ripmo weighs 33lb. Thanks again.
Beautiful bike, Mike but I am biased. I got mine days ago, and I’m one of those that waited months. I think it was particularly hard for smaller shores to get them. Mines is blue as well. XT build with a few upgrades. I really haven’t had time to rides anywhere but in the street in front of my house I’m leaning toward applying ride wrap and your video was helpful. It might be interesting to compare notes as time goes on.
The fork you got has Grip damper, so not high and low speed adjustment, also no high an dlo speed rebound. Also the grip blue dial is awful it goes out of position easy, so as soon as I do high, brutal, bunny hops or ride down techy trails with roots and rocks it shifts and fork can lockout causing a crash, I had to secure it with zipties.
Tomasz, yes. You can change the Fox 34 fork from 130 to 140 mm by swapping out the air shaft (part is like $35). Thought about it. But so far, 130 is great.
50mtb Hi, thank you for a quick response. I’m torn between Ripely 2020 and Ripmo 2019 which is discounted here at my local bike shop in London. To be honest I’m leaning towards the new Ripley 😉
@@tomaszmichewicz7867 tough call. I was torn between the two also. Still wonder. However, base your decision on what you ride most. I ride blues with big climbs on my home trail (Colorado front range) ... and black challenges on big days. So Ripley is ideal for 90% of my riding. Also remember, the cross over is huge - about 90% same bike.
50mtb Thanks for advice, I will try to make the demo of these two if possible. Last question please, I can hear that you have extra large frame right. How tall you are ? I’m 6’1 (184.5cm) and I’m thinking to get size L ?! Regards
Nice bike! I got my Ripley GX build on the 12th. Did my first ride Saturday. It flies up hills! I had to wait 45 days for mine. Congrats on your new ride!
I have the same bike. I switched to 2.3 tires (DHRII in front and Forekaster in back) and the bike climbs noticeably better. I think the 2.6 tires are overkill. But you might need to go for 2.4's with the rim width you've got.
Benjamin, good call. I have some 2.35 Ardent Race ready for the spring/summer. Ibis chart shows 2.35 smallest tires on 35 mm IR. Find out in a few months. Now having fun on monster Assegai in the winter riding wet, mud, snow, and today ... dry (about to snow again). They do grip. Keep us updated on your Ripley riding. How do you like the Ripley vs Ripmo?
@@50mtb44 I sold the Ripmo to get the Ripley. For 90% of my riding the Ripley is a better fit. The Ripmo can do it all, but the Ripley is more fun on anything not gnarly.
@@benjaminrussell7481 Nice to hear. I was torn between Ripley and Ripmo, but could not get a demo on Rimpo in my size XL, so went with my gut. Stange questions, but how tall are you and how much do you weigh? (I'm 6'2" and 210 with gear - one of the reasons I thought I should consider Ripmo was my size).
@@benjaminrussell7481 cool. Where are you riding? Glad you switched from Ripmo to Ripley? Can you describe the difference between the two bikes (your riding experience/feel)?
Santa was good to you this year! Really nice bike and the NX works fine. I had it on my hardtail and the only problem I had was with the shifter. I replaced with an X1 shifter and worked great. But an XL frame under 30 lbs is great. Happy days ahead!
Lan, santa showed up early. Going to wrap it before first real ride. Paranoid about the carbon frame (first one). Had NX on last bike (with GX derailleur) and it worked great. To clarify, when you say "shifter", do you mean the handle mech or the rear derailleur?
Lan, last bike was a 23.5 pound XC hardtail (without pedals). So this bike is heavier. But from demos, the efficient DW Link should be fine on climbs. Find out soon I hope. The tires are monsters. Did not realize how big and heavy when ordered. But I need thicker tires for our sharp rocky trails.
50mtb I think you will love the carbon frame, and the DW link too. There won’t be anything you can’t climb with that eagle drivetrain, show those young guys how it’s done. I’m still running Shimano 11 speed but it still gets me there.
