Hey, guys. I hope all is well. Today we are reviewing the 2020 iPad Pro. As you guys know I've been a longtime iPad user going all the way back to 2010. I've been working on helping create art software for the iOS platform for over a decade now and we have been covering the iPad Pro for many years now here on the channel. This year I decided to go for the size change. We are reviewing the 12.9" 2020 iPad Pro. In today's video, we will be covering a verity of things. Of course, we are coming at this review from the standpoint of the creative professional and digital artist. In the 2020 iPad Pro Artist review,
we will be comparing the new 2020 12.9" iPad Pro to the 2018 11" iPad Pro. We will be checking out the 2020 iPad Pro's performance with the new A12Z chip. We will be drawing/sketching, inking and painting with the 2020 iPad Pro and Apple Pencil We go over the second generation smart keyboard folio, talk about the new double camera system, and the 5 studio mic array. We will go over some of the new things that iPadOS 13.4 offers like the enhanced cursor/trackpad and mouse support. We will see how Apple has brought cursor support to the forefront and how Apple has improved things in the iPad Pro with 2020. This is the 2020 iPad Pro review. #2020iPadPro #ApplePencil #iPadPro

What I love about this video is Cladius actually took the time to show how the 2020 iPad actually does differ from the 2018. There are so many videos on RU-vid where reviewers are saying how there's no reason to get the 2020 if you have the 2018 and I totally get that as the two are very similar. However, here, Cladius shows us how the new iPad is an advancement over the previous model without losing the message so many are putting out there in regards to upgrading.

Now that's one hell of a review! I've been torn on going for the 2018 or 2020, and also torn on the 11 or 12.9. This video revealed a lot for me. Also, LOVE YOUR WORK/ART!

Nice seeing someone objecting the dismissal of "artist" using the 11 inch instead of the 12.9 inch. It's my first time owning a tablet but drawing digitally, isn't one of the main benefits to it is the ability to zoom in and out? I like drawing in sketch pad more and I am not a fan irl of 8.5" x 11" paper for drawing so I have a slight bias to the 11 inch... but I see multitasking is easier on the larger screen in terms of having a reference photo pulled up. In that sense though, I still have my phone and I can use that as another screen, too. The most advantage I see on 11 inch besides the price is that it is easier to hold and when you are holding your iPad more, then you are more enticed to draw more which is a big deal people don't realize. You can sit and draw for a couple hours while I can be in bed, on the couch, outside, etc. and it doesn't feel out of place to hold the ipad and create something.

After owning a Shitface Pro 5 or New Shitface Pro.. I am comfortable sitting and drawing with a 12.9 inch like screen tablet. And that has sharp asshole edges and it's slightly heavier in feel than an iPad 12.9Inch for some reason. Takes a bit of getting used to holding a pretty decently sized tablet screen but once you get the hang of it, it's SO worth it! But if someone is used to a Cintiq 13HD then an 11inch is basically the same size as the active area OF the Cintiq 13HD, if not a bit bigger.

I was not able to choose either. Both sizes have pros and cons. The smaller is very easy to handle while the bigger is perfect for somewhat more serious computer work. That is why i now have both....

It's a hard choice man! I reluctantly sold my 11, so I'm going to ride the 12.9 wave for a while and see where we land. I love both for sure.

Thank you for your thorough review. I appreciate that you take the time to review products for us so we have more access to information. I have purchased three different types of Bluetooth keyboards for my iPad Pro because I like the backlight. I never purchased the Smart Keyboard due to protection and price concerns. But many people have recommended it. Does the typing experience get better or do you just adjust to it? I have been contemplating on buying it because I like the idea of not needing to charge the keyboard unlike the other keyboards I bought. Would you recommend it over other keyboards and the Logitech keyboard?

Thank you my friend. I've never gotten to try the Logitech stuff, but I have tried a verity of third party keyboards, and the keyboard being powered by the iPad without needing to charge is a big part of why I love it. I think you should wait till next month for the new iPad Pro Magic Keyboard to drop. That is powered in the same way as the smart keyboard folio, but comes with a trackpad, and floating hinge design, and the keys are backlit.

I'm actually holding out for the Magic Keyboard as well. With it being so expensive, I thought it best not to invest in any keyboard at the moment. The wait is killing me though. :)

Thank for this great review. Could you please try and tell us how maximum layers max we can have now with in procreate / iPad Pro 2020 6 Gig Ram at A3 300 dpi ? Currently I can have 26 layers max with my 2015 12"9 iPad Pro.

Thanks! The last I checked it was the same as the 2018 because they haven't updated it yet to take advantage of the extra ram, but I'll check the amount for you.

Do you have a suggestion for upgrading my desktop bamboo to my next drawing tablet. I am curious to know you stance on this. Can I for the long term make finished art work on ipad 11 pro 2018? Or with the new Xpen-Pro and Huion 2k tablets would it be better. Overall it is mainly to do art not sure how much I will be moving the ipad around if I go that way. I want to take art serious and hopefully my next purchase will be a long term choice.

I would say iPad Pro for sure. It's a machine that is going to last you a long time, and absolutely you can create finished work on it, like so many other artists who already do including myself.

Yeah was looking at 12.9" for my first iPad pro but already have 15" mbp and I usually travel a lot, so time spent on airplanes and in hotel beds. So looking at that and that this will more be used for mindmapping on the go and starting occasionally drawing again, the 11" should be fine for my usecase. This especially since I got a used one with a broken rear camera (which I won't use anyway) for 1/3 of the price of a used 12.9" it was a no brainer this time. I might be wrong though and get the 12.9" at some point, only time will tell.

Considering upgrading my 9.7pro. I feel really crowded by the tools when using Procreate. I carry my iPad around a lot so the weight and size of 12.9 scares me but the screen real estate calls to me. I rarely use my Mac now so the iPad serves as my main computer. The added ram will be nice as well. I often exceed the layers usable in Procreate. I know the 11” would still be a change from my 9.7 with its big bezel. Still trying to decide....

Its a hard one to decide on, but I can tell you this. You'll feel a difference going from 9.7 to 11, its really nice. 12.9 is just extra immersive.

Hello Claudio, how is the lag difference between the 2018 and 2020 version iPads while using the transform tools in clip studio paint?

It's pretty much the same because clip uses only the CPU for everything in the software. Check out my software ArtStudio Pro if you haven't yet!

Any regrets selling your 11”? I went the opposite way from the 12.9” to the 11” and I can say I’m more satisfied with it. The Magic Keyboard should fix the screen angle issue which I will be getting. The problem I had with the 12.9” was the inconvenience in holding it in tablet mode. Yes, you get more screen real estate when in “laptop mode”, and you get a full sized keyboard, but I haven’t felt compromised by the smaller screen on the 11” and the keyboard feels surprisingly comfortable after using it for extended periods.

I wouldn't say I regret it, but some days I am missing the 11 for sure. As I've been using the 12.9 for a bit now there are attributes and features with the 12.9 that I do feel like I also don't want to give up. I've figured out some good methods on holding it where it doesn't fatigue or hurt the hand or arm, but has to be held in a different way than the 11. I have the Magic Keyboard coming in which I think will add a lot to the experience of the 12 too. I had been working with the mid size scale for a long time from 9.7-11 so that was about 3 or more years with the mid scales, and just wanted to change it up and have the larger experience for a bit. But, no way around the fact that the 11 is just awesome. Here's how I feel so far. Once you own a 11 and use it for a long time you will never want to let it go, and once you have a 12.9 you have a unique feature set with it that you also don't want to let go. They didn't make the choice easy. A part of me wants to just get an 11 too and have both but then I feel like one of them would wind up not getting used and I didn't want that to be the case. I definitely feel that the 11 has a great screen size. Anything I can do on the 12 i can do on the 11. The 12 is just more immersive, and that immersivness caters to some specific processes. They are both great.

does artstudio pro have a cutout filter option?

All the main filter categories we have are as follows. Blur, Sharpen. Edge, Distort, Noise, Stylize, and Render. Each of those main categories have sub options within them.
