If you have any cool cars that you want me to review shoot me an email at VanBoardBike@gmail.com!
The guys at Maserati Lotus of Greenville SC were nice enough to let me borrow a brand new 2020 Lotus Evora GT. You can check them out at www.maseratilo...
I wanted to give you guys an idea of what this amazing little car is like. It is crazy fast, hugs the road like no other and sounds amazing, all with a supercharged toyota 3.5L V6 that sounds amazing! I go over some of the history of Lotus as well as a full review of this 2020 Lotus Evora GT both inside and out. My wife and I had a blast taking the car up some swisty roads in North Carolina and she even drove it! She's only 4'11 and 3/4 and she was able to just barely reach the pedals, but she could! I'm 6'1 and fit very comfortably (not so much in the back seats...), even my 6'5" friend was able to fit behind the wheel! Everyone found the seats to be perfect and the exhaust sound to be heavenly. The handling and grip of the car was other worldly! Let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything that we missed!
Gear I used to shoot this video:
GoPro Max 360 camera: amzn.to/2rLztOT
Telescoping selfie stick: amzn.to/2YMvf5G

Big thanks as always to my loving wife for helping me edit these videos, I couldn’t do it without you!❤️❤️

I just got an Evora 400. I spent an hour this morning trying to start it. Finally, I found a service manager at a Lotus dealership that talked me through the procedure and who realized the battery was too low. Then he talked me through finding the battery and putting a charger on it. Love the car :-)

It’s a 3D picture of the end of the muffler if you were looking at it while you’re standing on the left.

You are the only reviewer I’ve seen that actually mentioned it’s Apple Car Play capability, instead of just crapping on the looks of the alpine unit. I could care less about the looks of the infotainment in a sports car. The functionality is much more important. Solid review man!

Your review captured a lot of what is positive and awesome about the Evora GT. But cheaper than a Camry? Ha. That's a good one.

There are better cars for the money (msrp) but lotus is offering great financing (monthly). If you appreciate the visceral experience, manual transmission, lightness , and a back seat there really isn't an alternative.

Great review, I love my old and slow Evora for what it's worth! Wish you had used your son (presumably) to highlight how the back seats can be useful up to a certain age. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

It’s actually my nephew. The only time I had with him with the car was to take him to school but I wish I had done that too. I suspect he could fit behind my wife no problem but I doubt behind me since I only had about 2” behind my seat

@@JohnDDyer I'm a shorty 5"7 so require the seat forward to reach the pedals, but my son up until about 12 years was able to sit behind no problems. People disregard the rear seats as being pointless other than for storage which is shame as for some they are more than adequate for young children. It was certainly a factor when I purchased my Evora. Again, thanks for a great video!

Just survived a year in a Mclaren....I'm hoping that Lotus can build a more reliable car than they do. I'd love to finally own a Lotus!

Oh wow. Yea I have heard a lot of bad things about mclaren recently. Which one did you have and what happened?? The Camry engine gives me hope on the lotus and I loved having the storage of the rear seats!

@@JohnDDyer I had a gorgeous 570S with Sport pack. Spent 9 out of 12 months in the shop. I tried to daily drive it, and it was not good. When it ran, it was sublime. But even Car and Driver just did a test of the new GT model and one of the pics has the "return to Mclaren Dealer" fault on the dash display! I swear that the company can't get a car to run a single day without one of those popping up! Fault code after fault code...limp-home after limp-home....Dealer wound up buying my car back and I picked up a 2019 GT3 instead. Run it as a daily driver. Not a single issue in 6000 miles! The Evora seems to be able to run daily as well. Very smart putting the camry engine in! I'm in NJ tho and the dealers are all 1.5hrs away. My brother lives in Greenville, so he might pick one of evoras up soon! Love your channel BTW!

Oh man that’s crazy, such a shame about your 570s...that GT3 is an awesome car too! I had a blast in the brief bit I got to drive my friends! Too bad you aren’t close to a lotus dealer... your brother should definitely pick one up tho! I miss that Camry engine scream at 7k!

Pete Stuff that’s awesome! It’s good to hear the ‘good’ experiences too. Around me, all I hear is that they are Velcro’d-together kit cars. I’m hoping to score a 2018 that has been sitting on a lot near me for 3 years. I sent an offer like it was a used car. The dealer keeps insisting that it is new!

i love my evora. i have the N?A . i might get the newer one soon but i use the backseats with a 3 year old and a 9 year old and they havent complained at all. Its different from the 911 because i dont see them everyday at the light like i do porsche in dallas, tx area. i love the handbuilt aspect and the uniqueness. Its def a jr supercar. Good review
@JohnDDyer
@JohnDDyer 4 года назад
Thanks man. Yea the uniqueness and style is what I really like about the car. Does the NA sound the same as the new GT? Because that sound is addicting!

@unityresearch
@unityresearch 4 года назад
well the first gen evoras are cheap because they are old and slow, the Evora GT is a 100k car so.. quite a bit of difference between the two, the GT has a loooot of improvements and is much faster than the original NA version
@JohnDDyer
@JohnDDyer 4 года назад
yea I could def see the supercharger making a difference for sure, I need to drive an NA one to see if it feels fast enough, the GT was fast enough to get me in trouble all of the time for sure...sometimes slower isn't always worse from that standpoint lol.
@unityresearch
@unityresearch 4 года назад
@@JohnDDyer yup, used to have an NA. Had problems with it too, not drive train but a lot of minor and electrical I had issues with. On the other hand my buddy has a 18 Evora 400 and they fixed just about everything wrong with it from the NA 10 years ago. My NA was fun but you did have to try a little harder to "get in trouble" with it. 0-60 was 5 seconds at best.
@JohnDDyer
@JohnDDyer 4 года назад
@@unityresearch haha yea a little slower isnt necessarily bad from the trouble standpoint, I would have to drive on to see if it would be worth it....the electrical issues wouldnt be fun at all tho....

Dude, the 2020 GT you drove is not cheaper than a Camry, that's a misleading statement. A used 2010 Evora 2+2 is cheaper than a new Camry but that's a much different car than the GT you drove.
@JohnDDyer
@JohnDDyer 4 года назад
Yea sorry if that was misleading. I did show the used ones I was talking about. But I could have been more clear. Still and awesome car for the money I think!

John D Dyer power performance and it’s a true mid engine like cayman and price. The 911 isn’t mid engine it’s rear engine etc

I really like these cars but as much as I like I cant justify the price. I'd rather get the new C8 and save ~40k. Imo you get much more car for the price.
@JohnDDyer
@JohnDDyer 4 года назад
yea I could see that for sure, I would love to test one of those out to compare it. I was just talking to my cousin (who has a C5 Z06) yesterday about just that. The rareness of these guys is fun too
@puertorricanboy1
@puertorricanboy1 4 года назад
@@JohnDDyer oh yeah totally agree. in a few years you're gonna see the C8 everywhere. When that happens the entire Lotus brand will likely still be somewhat rare and I do appreciate that. At least there is no wrong choice because both cars are pretty good options.
@JohnDDyer
@JohnDDyer 4 года назад
Yea for sure. I would definitely take either today for sure!
@cmiddlebrooks7627
@cmiddlebrooks7627 4 года назад
i actually was going to do a c8 , but when i went to the dealer the guy was like give me 2k, cant give you a vin number and i dont even know what month next year you might get the car. so i started looking and the evora gets people asking questions at gas station and taking selfies with the car etc.. my car is a 2014. not for sure if id get the same after the first year of the c8.....
@zarbon700
@zarbon700 4 года назад
Only a fool who knows little about cars thinks a C8 is one the same level as a Evora GT. Evora GT destroys the C8 in handling, feedback, responsiveness, driver engagement, on track durability, and wear and tear. Drive a Louts Evora then a C8 and you'll know why a Lotus is woth the money.
