I recently repowered my 1992 Ranger Comanche with a 2020 Mercury 200 ProXS Four-Stroke! Want to learn about the repower? Check out this article: anglr.com/boat...
I have an 88 Ranger 390V and this video just sealed the deal on what I'm going to do about repowering my boat. You are right about loving the haul on these old Rangers. Thanks, brother, for posting this video. What can be better than a classic boat with 2023 technology?
1:29 This boat and new motor look great, I would have Mercury come up with a color match for outboard where the red is ,like I see on a lot of other boats and motors where they match!
Haha! Thanks for the kind words, I think it looks pretty slick too! Runs like a dream, reliable and the holeshot is insane! Worth every penny saved man!
@@derekhorner3080 I've rode with some of my friends with pro xs and they are nice never seen one on an older boat though It looks very slick like you said
Hey man! I'll do a walkthrough this spring showing storage and where I keep certain items! Thanks for the idea, never figured people would want to see!
@@derekhorner3080 It's such a unique boat, that I would love to get my hands on. I have an old 99 tracker with a 50hp on it, and I would love getting to restore a classic boat. I'm currently restoring an 02 Chevy single cab sport side 4x4. I love redoing things because you get their use out of them, and it makes you take care of things if you put your time and effort in it.
Hey there, I do still have it. I (knock on wood) have yet to have a single issue with it. I keep up to date on maintenance and it's still humming for me!
I'm in the process of having a Pro xs 200 put on my 2000 Ranger 518vx. The old Evinrude Ficht 175 left me stranded on the lake when it died on plane back in March. I originally was set on getting a new G2 but BRP killed Evinrude so I picked up my boat from that shop and started looking into other motors. I wasn't really impressed by Suzuki or Yamaha and I just couldn't bring myself to put a Japanese motor on an American boat. I watched a ton of videos (including this one) and then started calling/emailing different shops for a quote. I got a good price from a local shop and it was considerably less than what the G2 was going to cost so I decided to get a hydraulic jack plate and also have them install the 12' Talons I bought and was going to install myself. Thanks to this covid crap, deliveries are taking longer than the shop expected and we are at the end of week 4 but the motor did arrive yesterday (finally!) and they said they are finishing up the wiring which has been a pain in the ass since Ranger didn't leave much room to work in. I am hoping to pick my boat up next week and get her on the water and break in the new beast of a motor.
Can you give a ballpark idea on the cost. I'm looking at repowering a 2000 Viper Coral. My Merc 200 EFI blew the powerhead, and it's a crap shoot on rebuilds and used engines. A warranty would be nice, but ??? on the $$$.
@@rts3613 Hey man! Many Mercury dealers are offering repower rebates, so the pricing may vary. If you're looking to repower with the 200 Pro XS I did, you're looking in the 15k range depending on the dealership. Again with rebates, it could be less than that, if it were me, I'd get in touch with a local Mercury dealer and get a quote!
@@derekhorner3080and Cmbvet outdoors, Thanks for the info guys, I'll look into it. If I can get a little for my old motor and a decent rebate, it might make sense. Thanks again
Good morning, thank you for your videos! I am in Canada and I would like to have your impressions on putting an active trim on a 200 hp pro xs engine because my salesman does not recommend it to me... he recommends up to 150 hp and another question if I wanted to buy a kit active trim I have to look for which model I have a 200 hp mercury 2024 thank you
I'm looking to repower my 2010 ranger z520 idk what to say about them new mercs what should I do I just found out that Evinrude is out of business so Yamaha or Mercury what should I go
Hey Odus, I have absolutely loved this thing. It's been over a year now and she still runs like a dream. The maintenance is super easy and parts are easily accessed. The power and speed are still the same, absolutely jumps out of the hole and get's goin in a hurry. I'd recommend the Merc, I don't think you'd be disappointed.
@@Clodknocker I'm not sure about the legality of it, but I'd say the obvious thing, that it's not recommended lol. If I was rated for a 250, I would have put one on there for sure
@@Clodknocker I'd highly recommend it. I straight up love that hull, was just super tired of motor issues so instead of selling my kidneys to afford a brand new rig, it made way more sense to repower!
Man i got a 70hp Johnson on my 1999 lowe 17ft bass boat and was wondering if a 60hp merc efi would be the right move over a new boat. My 70 is fine but I want a new motor for age sake
The new motor is definitely what I'd recommend. The reliability of it always turning over and getting me from spot to spot is a gamechanger in and of itself.
Seen this awhile back and looked you up to see if there was any updates .... so now having experienced it for a year or so would you do it again? I have a 92’ Champion I want to repower
Hey Jaime, I guess it's about time to do an update! To be honest, not a huge video guy as my Channel probably portrays lol! But, after having it and putting almost 100-hours on it so far, I'm still in love with that ProXS. It's been nothing but reliable and still growls just like it did out of the box. My MPG is insane compared to that old two-stroke, I've only filled it once so far this year and have run it all over kingdom come. I never knew how much of a difference it would really make, but my favorite part is reliability. Knowing it's going to start and get me from point A to B every single time allows me to focus on the fishing, rather than worrying about what could go wrong. If you're considering a repower, I'd strongly recommend it! If you chose to go that route, I'd love to see the before and after! Feel free to message me on Instagram at any time @DerekHornerFishing
@@derekhorner3080 cool thanks bud I appreciate the reply, reliability is exactly what I’m looking for… this old 2 stroke merc is a toss up if it will start every time. I’ll look you up on ig thanks
