Using light spin tackle for oversized bottom fish the likes of those thriving off the Dry Tortugas, West of Key West in the Florida Keys, is considered an incredible mismatch - much like going into Jurassic Park with a slingshot! Yet, Daniel Delph, carrying on the historic light tackle fishing legacy of his grandfather Ralph Delph, had just that in mind as he and Poveromo ran the MARC VI roughly 75 miles west of Key West and to a spot in 250 feet. Using a Penn Clash 4000 reel filled with 20-lb Sufix 832 braid and paired with a Penn Regiment rod, Poveromo hooks a beast on his very first drop! Some 45 minutes and at least four "rock ups" later, Poveromo bests a 55 pound black grouper! The duo goes on to score numerous red snapper and scamp. In this must-see episode, the fascinating fishing off the Dry Tortugas along with the numerous "tricks" to catch big bottomfish on light tackle are showcased in remarkable fashion.
