2020 SHELBY GT500 VS GT350R - HEAD TO HEAD ROAD COMPARISON! 

As a GT350 owner myself, the GT350 offers the full Shelby experience: raw, challenging, and exhilarating - the way Carroll Shelby intended it to be.

In my own opinion I love the GT350R more maybe because I'm old school and love manual gear boxes. And congrats on the 100K!

It's more fun to shift through the gears when driving, so I like the GT 350 or a 13-14 GT500.

GT350R is a manual. I rest my case.

In all mt years of being a car enthusiast I never thought that I would prefer slower cars. I know all the DCT are faster, they just simply are not as fun on the street.

Screw the DCT! Give me the Tremec as long as you can still get one. They should have given the option of a manual trans for the GT500. For crying out loud Porsche learned that when they came out with the PDK as the only transmission for the GT3! Porsche purist were screaming for a manual trans. Next year it had a manual transmission!

If I could have just those two thumbnail cars in my garage, I'd be all set for life!!! (Until I wanted to add another one. LOL). Keep up the great coverage my man!!

3 weeks ago I bought a new 350R. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Not saying the GT500 wouldn’t do the same, but there’s something really special about a manual transmission.

I own the GT350R, and it is like you say. Just amazing. I would have fancied a GT500 if they made it with a manual gearbox also... but automatic, meh.. boring. Great video.

I have both a GT500 CFTP and a GT350R. Your review is bang on. I feel like the GT500 understeers a lot in comparison. The GT350R really turns in nicely. I don’t miss the tram lining with the Gt500. I am hoping some new tires on the R will make some of the traming going away.

We, car enthusiasts buying cars for it's car-driver's characteristics. What else you should buy car for? I mean, if the car drives you then there are other, better cars for this purpose(read Tesla). I purchased Shelby GT350 instead of GT500 for only one reason - GT350 hase MT and GT500 is DCT.

Great video buddy! As a 2020 GT350 owner, the flat plane crank voodoo mated with the Tremec trans is the reason I chose this over the 500. My Explorer ST has that rotary dial and that’s fine for the Explorer but in my opinion manuals keep you engaged with the car. It’s definitely a driver’s car and more rewarding to drive.

From reviews. I believe the Carbon Fiber Track Pack lapped VIR faster than the base GT500. I see the CFTP as the GT500 "R". It would be awesome seeing you compair the CFTP with the GT350R and GT500 base. I will say that it's a lot more interesting seeing you run the roads than only straight line quarter mile runs. It seems the best way to compair the GT350R and GT500 is timed laps on a road course. In a MT comparison. Randy Pobst found the CFTP GT500 to be closer to a Supercar running against the Z51 C8 running 3 seconds faster laps at VIR. Road & Track test had the GT500 CFTP running equal lap times against the $189,000 Porsche 911 GT3-RS (With an estimated $40,000 dealership markup expected when it becomes available). The GT350R is basically built as a track car. Comfort is not what Ford was looking for when building it. Thanks for showing everyone that the Shelby GT500 is not a one trick pony. Comfortable daily driver, a 10 second quarter mile car and a strong track car. As much as I love the GT350R and it's amazing Voodoo engine. I see the GT500 being the better overall Supercar. No longer just a Mustang. Watching you drive it looks fast, but comfortable. Something you normally find in a car costing $80.000+ more.

Is it worth it to buy the GT350R as it is going to be discontinued? Will it add value after the discontinuing of it?

The GT350R is a balanced drivers' car and requires keen interaction on the part of the driver, which yields a more rewarding driving experience. The GT500 is an amazing car that can do the above with less effort. But I'll take the GT350R, thank you.

Looks like you are fighting the GT350 more to get it down the road then you did with the GT500. That is a good sell point for the GT500 versus the GT 350. I am contemplating Purchasing one or the others. This is you of the best videos I have seen. Great job on showing the Difference between the two models. The POV was down so good. We take the Demon for Friday night cruising up & down the streets and the GT500 for Sunday afternoon blasts in the mountains. Two totally different transmissions. Love 'em both. Remember though your not in the R edition which you soon will have being the Track Pak on the 500. Carbon fiber wheels, adjustable suspension, loads of down force from new carbon wing that's adjustable. And 100+lbs lighter

Hey, great video and great content! One thing of note, I noticed you were wearing your harness incorrectly. The buckle was too high. In an accident, you could submarine under the lap belt if you wear your harness that way. You want to snug the lap belt portion first and then the shoulders. Your buckle and lap belts should be flat across your hips not V shaped as you are wearing it in this video. Safety first! Great job on the video! L

Great review. I would take the GT350R over the GT500 every time. Manual transmission, analog gauges, raw driving experience, carbon wheels are great with less rotational mass, and higher revving engine.

350R is more raw. I like that

gt500's got better acceleration

I have the GT350 and I love it to death. Never get bored driving it, The Voo Doo's sound never gets old, the 6 speed Tremac is a masterpiece. When I found out the 500 was auto only I passed. But still a very nice ride.

Good stuff! I am planning to upgrade my 17 GT350 to a 2020 R and this video locked it in for me! The 8250 redline is addicting and the R takes it next level.

The gt500 is powerful and has in my opinion the best front end design on a new model mustang ever, but that naturally aspirated 5.2 v8 is unmatched. Gt350 all the way for me. They missed the mark by not making a manual option for the 500

My ‘19 GT350 is the best driving car I’ve ever experienced (I bought my first car in 1970, a ‘65 Comet). I haven’t driven the new GT500 or the GT350R, but watching plenty of videos like this one they’re obviously incredible. This is a great time in history to be a gear head, maybe the best time ever.

I have never driven the GT500 but I was drawn to the GT350R because of the experience of 500hp coming from a high revving NA V8 in manual. Also like the somewhat light Curb weight on the GT350R. I did get the radio and A/C.

I owned three 66 Shelby GT 350s at the same time lots of racing , plus dirt Sprint cars, and motorcycles ,and am now at 73 years old going to buy a new one, am thinking seriously about the “R” 350. Was the Cage an option or standard in the R model? I’m currently driving a heavily breathed on Billy Boat exhaust and suspended , Adjustable Konis and large sway bars, urethane bushing kit C-5 because I’m 6’4” and it fits me. Looking forward to this next acquisition, great review as always , big fan! Thank you for your efforts.

Something about the 350, probably the manual gearbox and N/A engine, makes me want that over the 500. I don’t know, but my F250 is paid off in 2 years so I will probably go with the 500 just because I don’t want to buy a used 350….I’m sure I’d inherit someone’s problems.

The GT500 is the faster car supplemented with what it need to manage that every speed and weight. BUT the GT350 is the track refined car, so its feel and response is that more akin to a race car while the GT500 although clearly more capable of laying down even faster track times is more of a GT car in feel though it can out perform its more inherently nimbler younger sibling. The more pleasurable car in terms of a racing car like feel and all the sensation of a drivers car goes to the GT350 hands down. your more involved and connected to the car, its a manual transmission so your interlinked human to machine controlling every aspect of its performance. its a far greater experience than the flappy paddle press a button and warp speed of the GT500... but if you cant shake the idea of the GT500's overall speed then the answer is simple get a GT350R with a supercharger. now you have the instane brutal power of the GT500, along with the screaming high revs of the FPC voodoo And the precision of the R's characteristics.

I always thought when the gt350r first came back out in what the 2010s early it was made to handle around corners better than any other muscle car. Then the gt500 was built more like the saleen just a fun straight highline high hp good looking car without a crazy spoiler etc. Thays what it was or I thought it was. All I know is ford hasn't got the credit it deserved in Canada for its mustang in the last 10 years because of dodge srt stealing the show and everyone around me buys the srts all variants rarely saw any SS Chevrolet trucks or cars before they disappeared and camaros I still see but rarely. Compared to dodge. But I'm more likely to see a camaro zl1 1le and a hellcat redeye widebody plus a camaro v6 camaro ss challenger rt srt charger rt and SRT all before I see a mustang gt350r or gt500 or saleen. Even though the engineering is amazing and they look great.

I believe the 6 speed in the gt350 is a direct bolt up swap onto the gt500

Soooo from what I'm understanding, there's really no reason to get a GT350R; seeing as how the GT500 is better in literally every way except weight...which isn't an issue if you aren't stupid.

Well owned both, just not seeing it, bias of ownership is seen here and Riats rides. The 500 is next level inside and out. A daily driver if needed and a track car if desired but always the winner at the stoplight. That flatplane crane is a time bomb if revs are kept high, you know it and ford know it. Had to stop making them.
