Man I was about 2hrs late finding your video. Just did my fronts and expected it to be nothing like the rears. I was wrong. Swapped everything over and started the truck up and everything to do with braking and trailering and etc came on. Thankfully my buddies scan tool was big enough to reset the codes. Doing my rears last year turned into a 6hr job because I couldn’t get the piston to go down and nappa rented me an adaptor tool that spin the worm gear down which also didn’t work. Stupid me powered the truck on and the park brake tried engaging and popped the piston out of the caliper and then every light came on the dash. Had to get a guy from the dealership with his scan tool to clear the codes. Couldn’t even bleed the brakes after we got the piston back in. The master cylinder must be electronic and the codes deactivated it. Hopefully it’s another 2yrs or longer before I need to do this but I thank you for this video showing how to activate brake service mode. Never knew it was a thing.
The CAL is recalibrating for your compass and yea that's where the scanner comes in and that's to set your brake life back to 100%. and Great vid to let someone know how to put the rear brakes in service mode .
Good video! I have changed brakes on many cars/ trucks. Decided to get a price from a shop and they charged $400 for labour. I said F it im just letting someone else change my 4 rotors pads and sensors. First time having someone do this for me and honestly I think I can get used to it lol.... 2020 High Country
thank you so much for this video, i kind of did all the work before watching this. i have a 2020 silverado trailboss LT and let me tell you. ive been changing brakes for years and the way they make these brakes no is stupid. Growing up i never had to disconnect a battery to do a simple brake job. But at the same time im very impressed with how easy it is changing them on the trail boss when everything goes right. any Do it yourself machanic knows any 30 minute job can turn into hours of frustration. what i took from your video was the park service mode for the back breaks. im not even going to get started on that one, i spent 2 hours twisting that motor in 😭😭😭😭😭😭 but currently right now, i had all sorts of lights and the way i got them off was disconnecting battery for like a half hour. check engine light is still on, giving me codes of C0560 and p25a2 and i cant figure it out for the life of me. maybe it needs to "learn" again
i have the keyess ignition and i'm trying this tomorrow, did the fronts already, have that warning you have bit nothing else and i did not put it in service mode for the fronts. next mission after getting rears done for me is learning the bleed process.
2020 silverado custom. I did the same , service mode but ended up in limp mode . Stuck w/e-brake on and had to flat bed it to dealership. $600+ just to diagnose and reprogram a new park brake motor. Motor was only $90 , the rest was labor , programing and tow truck.
Man I wish I would have seen this video before I did mine I got the tool and spun it back in now I gotta replace the emergency brake motor... smh To do that would I have to put it in brake service mode again And then just put the new ones on?
So I put the new motors on. Truck was in brake service mode. Had my buddy come with his scan tool and clear everything and she is all good! Thank you Jesus!
If you tow the rear has a lot of weight and will wear more quickly. If you never tow then the front has more weight (engine and the fact weight shifts forward as you slow). On cars the 2 to 1 is typical.
on trucks without the key i'm finding i have to have the truck on, brake +park for roughly 20secs and then i don't know what to do next. keeping foot on brake and hitting park again doesn't work, holding park doesn't work.
i did it wrong. it works. keyless truck you have the truck on, brake +park for 25ish seconds, as soon as the service symbol starts blinking release park and then press again and then release brake- bingo. then to get out i found i had to hold park and brake again but i having tested other ways
Did mine today and the brake failure/ speed limited to 43mph is on my dash in plugged the battery and everything u did but still havin the same issue 😅
My is doing same thing paid 500 to have it fix at dealership and once ready still didn't work now they say it's the master cylinder now they say it's 2500k just brought it back home
Can't believe the dealership wouldn't let me know this. They charged me $210 cus I backfed the system since I wasn't in brake service mode. Ridiculous.
Hold the push to start button without touching the brake pedal until your instrument cluster lights up. I work at an automotive shop for a living, and as cars have been evolving so has the information I've needed to be able to keep working on them.
