The land cruiser is one of the largest cars you can buy in the UK. Feels incredibly heavy and is not very fuel efficient but man I feel like a boss driving it.
I just bought one and I have to say it is built like a tank. Its so luxurious inside and smooth on the roads but once off road you don't have to worry about lack of power or performance. I love it!
I wasn't too fond of the design of the new land cruisers. I love the 1980s and 1990s design much better. Sure, it's an iconic and legendary vehicle, but damn, I thought it didn't look that well. Until... I saw one in the streets of Montreal. It was just a glimpse, I saw it for maybe 10 seconds. My head spun so fast as I recognized it and I swear to God I was star struck. It felt like I was witnessing a very special and rare occurrence. Right away, I fell in love with it. I don't know, there's something about a Land Cruiser that I just love.
I love my 200, but I would skip the Heritage Edition. The running boards are easy to remove (I've replaced mine with rock sliders). The third row can be removed in 15 minutes with hand tools. That roof rack adds a lot of noise and wind resistance in a truck that already gets poor fuel economy. And I really like the Coolbox in the center console -- on long trips across country I always have a cold bottle of water available. The BBS wheels are nice, but I wouldn't spend $3k for them. The main disappointment I have is that Toyota didn't replace the infotainment system. Toyota, if you are reading this, put CarPlay into the Land Cruiser and will trade in my 2013.
M1911jln Infotainment will be replaced next year with redesign. However new one will most certainly have a direct injection turbocharged engine and complex electronics which will negate any reliability long term. This 2020 is the last chance to get a reliable easy to work on vehicle of this type.
Toyota would sell these like hotcakes if they offered an industrial/fleet model stripped down with rubber floors, cloth seats and roll up windows and a manual transmission. Lose the luxury.
Toyota do sell these like hot cakes. All over the world, turbo diesel v8 is offered which has more torque and better fuel efficiency. In fact recently, the Land Cruiser outsold the Camry in the Phils.
I just secured a silver Heritage....I know the gas mileage sucks, I know its expensive,,,,,,,but I also know it will last the rest of my life, hold it’s value, and give me a lot of good memories.
Still own a 1983 FJ60. Just bought a white Heritage Edition. Took 10 minutes and no tools to remove the top basket. Love the absence of the 3rd row seat, and minimal carpeting behind the 2nd row seat. Just wish it had a diesel engine.
Very Good Review! We got our Black Heritage in late October. My wife absolutely loves it. (Me too) No third row seat, no cool box, no running boards and no entertainment system is exactly what we were looking for. This is our adventure rig and will not see much mall or big box store action. So far, we installed a clear bra covering the entire front, replaced the tires with Toyo Open Country AT II (p metric XL load) and got some step rock sliders being built. I think the Apple car play stuff is over rated. I had it in my previous vehicle and to be honest I didn’t care for it. So, this vehicle is extraordinary and if you can find one, You should BUY IT!
Great review- I have a black Heritage Edition ordered and arriving in late December. Elimination of the 3rd row, extra storage versus cooling box, deleting the running boards and side body molding makes it more appealing. Apple car play or Android auto- could care less, Pandora and/or ITunes will do just fine connecting through the media option. I’ll pay more to fill up the tank multiple times versus owning unreliable SUV’s, the net expense favors the LC versus the competition. The roof rack is detachable by the way.
@@rfcdgaf Not really since Toyota integrated some of the feature or function into their infotainment unit. Like AC control and heated seat are in the info screen. You could cross wire and have a single din into it.
“It’s not a Jeep Rubicon” please Edmunds find someone that actually does off-roading... The only people who actually make this statements are the ones who never do off-road stuff. The Toyota LandCruiser is the king of the hill the best off-road vehicle.
Not really. They don't have rear and front lockers like Rubicon which make a world of difference while offroading. But they are hell lot more comfortable than any Jeep.
Akhil Ghosh yes but this has crawl control Get a diesel 200 and give it a lift and an ecu tune + a set of 33s and you’re looking at an unstoppable offroad tank Even with the fancy electronics the Landcrusier will outlast and outperform a jeep out there easily Don’t even get me started on the 70 series Landcrusier
The last 2 Jeep Wranglers my buddy had broke down on the trail. They were both about a year old at the time. At the time my FJ Cruiser was 10 years old. It's never let me down and feels as solid now with 250,000 km on it as it did the day I bought it. My buddy now drives a Tacoma and is much happier with it. You can't compare a landcruiser to a jeep. It's like comparing a lion to a house cat.
7:07 "Kinematic?" Nope. It's called, "Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System". I have KDSS on my 2018 TRD Off-Road 4Runner. But you are correct in something you say that most people don't know--not only is KDSS a benefit for off-roading, it offers greater stability (less body roll) while cornering on-road.
This might surprise some people.. The number one market for Landcruisers in the world is Australia. We get a lot more models than most markets too, there have been 4 levels of 200 series, plus the 70 series (single cab, dual cab and wagon. The 200 series is being dropped, the 300 series is coming later this year. For the last couple of years the 200 has only been sold as a 4.5lt twin turbo diesel with 200kW and 650NM. The non-diesel (petrol) version was only accounting for about 5% of sales so they dropped it. I ordered one of the last diesel ones to be imported, it's due very soon. The V8 twin turbo diesel is getting axed, to be replaced by a v6 diesel perhaps. The competing large wagons (Denarli, Escalade etc) aren't sold here. RAM and Silverado utes are sold here but in minute numbers in comparison to Lancruiser and Hilux.
Love the LC and all that it stands for. I hope it never disappears because it has so much history behind it. Even though I can afford an 85k vehicle, buying one for 40k more than an equally capable 4runner with an added front locker just to get it scratched and dirty off road is a tough sell. The towing capacity is the only real advantage honestly.
I am trying to convince my wife that I would own a single vehicle for next twenty years or until I die. Told her this Land Cruiser Heritage would be my last vehicle. She said " bull shit, soon as you get this SUV you will ask for new 911". She may be right!
I love the Land Cruiser but that price is what kills it for me and probably most people. Bring us either a stripped down version or some of the other LC models we don't get in the USA and price it around 60k. I bet they will sell like crazy then! It seems to me CNBC just had a video about this exact thing if anyone wants to watch it. Love the SUV but at that price range, the average American just can't afford it or would even want to.
Love it. I got a LC100 and drove 1000 mi a day for 3 days from CA to MD with ease. And I didn't even like to drive. Just couldn't ship the car in May 2020.
The fact that this is full-time 4wd, is a deal breaker. The Land Cruiser, was never supposed to be awd. It was supposed to be a fantastic Jack-of-all-trades, with an emphasis on higher-end luxury (as of late, if course. Originally, it was more off road focused). Two wheel, four wheel, hi/low, range, with lockers. Why they would take that away from it is aggravating.
The LC is my dream vehicle. I have a young family and dream about getting an LC and exploring the United States. I really hope that Toyota doesn’t cancel the 300 series LC in the USA, that would be an absolute shame.
Here in California, the price for one of these (including tax and license) is about $100,000. With the global pandemic currently going on, most people only have a fraction of the money they once had to spend on something this fancy. So, I don't see much of a market currently. I would guess that 99.9% of these will never be taken off road, and the majority will be used to go to the mall or the winter ski chalet of the 1% of the population who can realistically afford one of these. The smart thing to do would be to purchase one of these, keep it in a temperature and humidity controlled garage for the next 20 years, and then sell it for double what it cost today.
The 200 series is a great vehicle and will satisfy most. On day one of my ownership the 3rd row seats came out! The cool box is great and I would be sad loosing it. This is a do it all SUV with the family or off roader in mind. Can't see the extra $$$ for the heritage edition.
Just got a new 2020. It’s great. Loaded up but overloaded with technology. It’s missing car play and remote starting which should have been added to this nice of a car. I have a 76’ a FJ 40. I’ve also had a 1999 1/2, a 2008 and a 2014. I’m sorry to hear that they are scheduled to be discontinued in US in 2022.
A tree just fell on my 2016 this week during an ice storm. Not a branch - a tree. I drove it to the body shop yesterday to dust off some bumps and bruises. I guess it's broken in now. I might sell it half a million miles from now, but then again I might not.
Toyota got the nuts and bolts right on the LC long ago, and then they sat on it as a cash cow. Too bad it doesn't have a more economical (but still reliable) engine or cabin support that is up to the current standard.
I love the Land Cruiser Heritage Edition but they removed the third row (yeah!), the running boards, and the cooler..... added a mediocre roof basket and some bronze wheels and charge $3000 more? OK....................
Hey Dan, I don't think the center differential locks automatically in low range. I need to be in low range with the center differential unlocked in order for turn assist to work in my 2018.
How easy it is to remove the luggage rack up on roof I really don’t like it but it can be a good option when taking baby strollers and stuff. But when driving in city ( or going to airport where there garage parking is low ) it will be an issue with that rack above so can that be taken off easily?
Hi Edd, im your new subscriber. Stay safe & stay healthy during this pandemic Ncov19 outbreak. Keep up bring the awesome videos. #staysafe #stayawesome
I bough privately my dream truck a 2008 Land Cruiser first year of the 200 series. Dark metallic grey with grey leather interior. I’m 72 and own a 91 80 series best tractor engine and transmission solid axle white western truck ever. Nigel is not lifted and is as scratched up and imperfect as I am. That’s why we. Red each other! Not bragging just letting you know that opportunities are out there if your focused on your passion. Paid $21K for the 200 series 174k miles on Bruiser barley broken in. Nigel cost me $3K and another $2500 in readiness cost a main seal radiator starter alternator hoses clamps belts. Some people are addicted to booze gambling drugs money sex my addiction is clearly Land Cruisers. See you in Vegas desert camping or cruising.
You know this is a Mall Wagon set up. This truck needs a lift kit and a set of mickey Thompson’s and it would eat anything ahead of it. Before doing the review you should gone to a tyre shop dude. So people will buy a set off road tyres and swap them out when using it in town. Which is what people do. The Landcruiser mission has never changed. The vehicle marketed in the US has become lame. The outside world versions are beefier.
fj100? weird to hear that. nerd alert, its uzj100. they did make a 100 series built on what is essentially an 80 series chassis called the fzj105, though never in the US. A note on kdss - it doesn't disconnect anything, its "constant mesh" so to speak. The only reason its important to say that is because it works BETTER than a sway bar disconnect. for one its never in or out, so there are no faults and no waiting for alignment and far more reliable. for another unlike a sway bar disconnect which allows the springs to do all the work, KDSS actually forces the wheels apart reducing the effective spring force resisting up travel and adding to spring force to the down travel side. Lastly its an asset on the road because it allows for a very thick sway bar to be used, since its effectively canceled out off road, but locked by natural dynamics on the corners. Its a clever system and props to the aussies for creating it.
Looks like an expensive Subaru Forester to me. Love the reliability and overall ruggedness, but needs updated for that price point. I would love to see how it drives with the 5.7L and that 8-speed tho.
If the 22nd century is the wasted world, Suzuki Jimny or Land Cruiser will be a necessity. A natural disaster and a war can't be predicted. Before a situation becomes serious, I'll want Land Cruiser right now.
No third row seat 😳. Some with families need that, also it looks too simple because there’s no flares or running boards and For that price, mind as well get the Lexus version.. we know the sales have dropped dramatically, but they’re not helping the brand with design. 😢
Yes that is true but of you were to compare them side by side in an off road competition the 70 series beats it hands down besides you know as well as I do 90% of those heritage 200s will never see dirt
