Six month Review of this bike on youtube now. Check it out here:
• Trek Remedy Six Month ...
This is my first impressions of my new bike, the 2020 Trek Remedy 9.8.
This video is completely unrhearsed and gets a little ranty at times, but hey...thats how you know it's honest!
I plan on doing an update video after my trip out West to ride in Wyoming, where the trails are much more brutal and rough on bikes compared to these midwest groomers. Either way I'm really digging the bike and so far I do recommend it, but time will tell if that changes!
Thanks for watching and consider subscribing if you enjoyed what you saw!
Music is by myself - Its a rough cut of a song on the upcoming EP "Beneath the Sands of Ur" by my solo band Catervatim

The BMX angle is a pretty unique perspective, not just for this bike, but similar bikes. Not a BMX biker myself, but still liked hearing about how this feels in comparison.
@Tkolbo_
@Tkolbo_ 3 года назад
Yeah I used that BMX bike angle to narrow my earch down to the Remedy and canyon spectral. The spectral was out of stock and I got a killer deal on the remedy. I don't think I had a bad choice with either bike! I definitely like the Remedy!

I currently have two bikes. a 2017 Remedy and a 2020 Ibis Mojo HD5. The HD5 is superior in many ways and the suspension design feels perfect. That said, the Remedy has much more pop and has much quicker steering which makes it the better option for flow trails and jumps. All that to say, I'd buy the Remedy again in a heartbeat. It doesn't quite rock the big downhills as well, but it definitely fills a niche for me. Good review.
@Tkolbo_
@Tkolbo_ 4 года назад
Yep! Exactly! It is playful as hell and it is easy to throw around. Back home my 29er pivot ate up the rocks and techy descents, but since moving to the Midwest it just wasn’t as fun. This Remedy has been perfect though and can still eat up techy terrain pretty well. Does the 2017 remedy still use the full floater pivot design? That was less than desirable in my opinion. Thanks for watching this video and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@PedalingDave
@PedalingDave 4 года назад
Yup, still had the full floater. I USED to not like it as much but after the Ibis, I found it's much more firm and thus, poppy off of jumps. Whenever new bike day arrives again, the Remedy will be on my radar for sure.

Ya I blew up the shock twice and had it warrantied on my 2020 remedy 9.8 It made wretched noises, leaked excessive amounts of oil, topped out hard and the lockouts never worked. Just got a 2021 x2 and it feels amazing so much more traction and much more predictable. A little slower on the climbs for sure. But I definitely felt that dead feeling you described while riding stairs. A new shock will remedy that 😂.
@Tkolbo_
@Tkolbo_ 4 года назад
Yeah right now the weak point of the bike feels like it’s going to be the shock. Especially since I’m a bigger guy (225lbs) than they are probably tuned for. I suspect a new shock will be in order for the future but for now I just need to ride this one into the dirt! Glad to know I wasn’t the only person that felt the deadness of the shock on stairs and I’m glad there is a remedy for the remedy shock situation hahaha!

Haha the ender was sick! It’s a dope bike dude and I’m glad you’re digging it. I’ve never rode the knock block and have always wondered if it would affect me, I’ll turn the bars a good amount on whips sometimes but I don’t know if I turn em far enough to hit. But yeah not being able to do x-ups kinda sucks and suppose you couldn’t do a full toboggan either. I think we want the same out of our MTBs though, ride it like a BMX 🤙🏻
@Tkolbo_
@Tkolbo_ 4 года назад

I also have a 2020 remedy 9.8 and I hit the knock block during whips. If anything it helps steady me tho. Definitely not a bad thing. The knock block is a stupid thing to design a bike with but honestly I never feel it while riding.
@metaltrav
@metaltrav 4 года назад
@@ethank9635 Yep I still haven't felt it and atleast it keeps from overturning in berms/corners and eating shit hahaha Ultimately it would be sweet to not have it, but if it makes the bike more predictable and stable then cool...though that 0.5% of gain may not be worth the limitations. Either way this bike is sick and shreds well for what I demand of it

@ZephaniahDavis
@ZephaniahDavis 4 года назад
I've been considering this bike for several months now and you hit on a number of things I think about - including the long-term performance of the rear shock (since it has a custom tune on it). Overall, this gave me a pretty thorough 'real rider' impression of it. I have two questions for you: Since you wanted a BMX-ish bike, did you consider the Santa Cruz 5010? If so, do you have any comparisons to draw? And, what's this bike (with a lot of travel) like on smooth, non-jump trails? Is it still fun in the way a shorter travel bike is? Thanks. Also, would love to hear some more metal on your channel
@Tkolbo_
@Tkolbo_ 4 года назад
Here is a few weeks i'll have an update video about the bike. Thanks to all the craziness that coronavirus brought to the bike industry I was limited on choices and well I didnt get to demo a santa cruz or anything before hand because of stock. I have a couple buddies that ride 5010s and they really like them though. The remedy has been great on smooth non-jump trails. I would say its just as much fun as a short travel bike, but jus tbe aware it may be a little more of a slug up the hill, though I have been very happy with the climbing performance on this bike.

@Tkolbo_ 3 года назад
Are you used to riding bikes with much steeper head angles? A lot of bikes do come with low rise bars, but you can definitely slap on some higher rise bars. @@socialising6037 The new stumpjumper is also a really really good bike man! So the knockblock hasn't limited me at all!
