I've always argued that the scrambler/bonneville is the jack of all trades bike. They'll cruise with zero issues, you can tackle corners because the suspension will handle it, the engine has enough torque that it feels fun without yeeting you into the sun, itll handle enough off road to get you to a camp site, commutes great and you can split with them easily. And its gorgeous.

I've been on a Scrambler 1200XC since June of this year, and have put just over 8,500 miles on it. For where I live in the hinterlands of southern California's Mojave desert, it's been ideal. One of the few purchases in my life that has presented ZERO buyer's remorse. It's been the first bike I've had in decades that leaves me grinning like a jackass eating cactus after each and every ride, no matter where I go. I anticipate a very long and happy relationship with my Triumph.
@markheinig
@markheinig 3 года назад
The complaint I've read the most about that bike is the very hot exhaust. As someone riding in the hinterlands of the Mojave desert, what is your take on it?
@paulregner5335
@paulregner5335 3 года назад
@@markheinig Yes, the exhaust gets pretty warm. However, it doesn't take but a few mph (or more) of forward movement to negate it. I've got some thermal header wrap that I was going to put on the pipes beneath the heat shields, but the summer ended before I could get around to it, if that gives you an idea of how urgent I felt the need was to get some relief from the radiant heat. Also, I've seen some videos about an aftermarket H-pipe that eliminates the catalytic converter, and is supposed to reduce the overall radiant heat coming off the exhaust by about 20 degrees, but I don't know if the nearly $400 price tag on the de-cat kit would be worth it to me.

I agree. I have the XE since I do a lot of off-road. I have already started looking at what parts I might need to replace (way) down the road in case parts are hard to get later. Planning to keep this as my main bike for a very, very long time.
@paulregner5335
@paulregner5335 3 года назад
@@cplegrand I looked hard at the XE as it's the up-optioned model of the two. I ultimately went with the XC for two reasons: I spend more time on asphalt than dirt (about an 80/20 split), and the XC I bought was a former press fleet bike (it was barely broken-in with just over 1800 miles on it), that was two-thirds of the MSRP and still came with a full factory warranty.

ESBlofeld Yeah, they really do. I’ve seen quite a few Triumph reviews on RU-vid & almost every one is either good or glowing, especially when it comes to overall feel and the bike’s fit & finish. Triumph seems to be very aware of what niche the bikes are supposed to be filling. I’m personally a fan of the Thruxton, but I’d be more than happy with any model.

Your one of many reviewers who have been surprised by this bike .. It is a classic case of " MORE THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS " . I've owned one for over a year and I can tell you it never fails to amaze me how much I love riding this bike ( and I've owned over 30 bikes over a 40 year biking life ) And its definitely NOT "just a cruiser " ... its a throbbing , torquey blast to ride hard on any road when you want to go for it , with a surprising rush at higher revs . Motorcycling is about emotions not spec' sheets , and the Street Scrambler is one of those magic machines that reminds you why you fell in love with riding in the first place , an absolute hidden gem !

I have a 2019 Street Scrambler as my second bike and I love it. Like you said, it’s so easy to ride and everything about it feels smooth and intuitive. Lots of fun to ride and a super well rounded bike. If you like how it sounds now, just wait until you put a new exhaust on it. I put the Vance and Hines 2:1 pipe on mine and it sounds amazing. Not huge but noticeable difference in performance after upgrading the exhaust too. The Zard exhaust is worth checking out as well.

"This is what a lot of people look for when they're thinking of getting a Harley Bike"... holy crap. YES. I went through a couple of Harleys ~18ish years ago, and I gave up on the "dream" - I couldn't get used to the pointless jittery-ness of their engines and the constant feeling that the bike was about to just rattle itself apart. I recently got one of my dream bikes - a Bonneville platform bike. This Speed Twin 900 (I wanted a Thruxton, but my back just can't anymore) is literally everything I wanted when I first went the Harley route. Incredibly beefy sounding, torquey as hell, solid handling despite the heavy weight, super cozy ergonomics, and the smoothest ride I've had in a while. If Harley took notes, and brought the same "modern classic" feel to their bikes - I'd gladly buy a Harley next. As it stands though... I'm probably gonna pick up a another Bonneville engine bike in the future, lol. This Scrambler 900 is definitely on the short list.

I've got the same bike and feel the exact way about it: they really knocked it out of the park for those of us that want modern features (liquid cooled, great charging system, etc...) in a retro look. Considering the scrambler as a second bike next to my sporty. Very good looking bike 👌🏻😁

All bikes for the 21 century are good or they would not exist by now. My wife always wants to test drive cars before she buys. By the time you educate yourself on your next bike purchase, I typically do not need a test drive. Brakes are good, throttle good, led headlight, stability control and most important the stock OEM engine. Singles vibrate more, light weight, low maintenance. Twins a little less vibration and can rev more so more horsepower vs torque. Triples are similar to V4 with torque and high rev some vibration. Inline 4’s losing torque for high rpm horsepower, little vinyl. V4’s are like V8’s, sooo smooth(maybe too smooth) toque and high rpm horsepower. Then just a matter of body position you want. Dual Sports(Adventure bike), nakeds, sport bikes, heavy weight cruises, and off road bikes.

So true what you said about thinking about getting a Harley. Got a Harley, then got a Speed Twin and damn poor Harley is collecting a little dust since then. 🥺🤫

Hey man, found your channel recently and just realized you’re in Austin! That’s where I live too, any favorite route recommendations? I’m a new rider and heavily considering getting a 2017 street scrambler

This bike really appeals to me, aside from the price tag. The sound it makes is fantastic. Have you checked out the RE 650s?

Bonnevilles are perfect starter bikes. Cheap insurance, not enough power to get in serious trouble due to weight but enough power to take on the highway daily, built well, usually attractive. More people should start on bonnevilles!

I watched all three of these videos to only now realize that the beginning of the video starts at my sisters old office complex. I was watching this one like "that looks familiar" and once you popped out and I saw the road I was like "oh shit!" I dropped my sister off on her first day there and would meet her for lunch some times. Now I just go to her house. Pre Covid-19... Good times.

Advice for new triumph riders (Classic bikes) they are all good in their own aspects. They are very friendly and easy to ride bikes. Before buying one look for what you really want in a bike that suits your riding style.

I have a 5 speed gear box on my KLR650 definitely odd when riding on main roads and definitely on highway. it always leaves me searching for that 6th gear but I love this bike. Also I think I would definitely pay for a bike like the one your riding here a very cool look as well

Ya know what... this has been bugging me, but I've never looked in to it; what is the point of putting those covers on the brake fluid resevoir?

Just curious...the way you talk about this bike is how I feel about my Z900RS (which is my 1st bike, btw). I considered this as well, as I feel like it's s similar style. What makes you connect with this more than the Z? (Which, iirc, you were a bit ambivalent about.)

You need to try having TEC progessive shocks on the front end. I put those in my T120 and it just flows like butter.

Got to say it again. I love bikes like this. Is it just another class compared to the svartpilen since its almost twice the price/power? You guys loved the 401, love to hear more comparisons between this, the husqvarna svartpilen 401, a fixed up Sportster, and your sled. So this used vs Husqvarna new? Have you tried the 701?

Hi Yamster big fan here with a question. My grandpa wants to get back into riding, but hes "vertically impaired" (~5'7") mild off roading, but street capable with a easy to get on clearance and seat height. Is this the perfect bike for him? Any ideas possibly cheaper? Thx for the great content!

Is this bike and the street twin good bikes for a newbie? I’ve never ridden a motorcycle but Im going take the MSF course, I would like to purchase an easy bike to learn on and I love how Triumphs look but there 900cc and I’m not sure if I should start with that even though this bike “easy” to learn on. Or should I start with a 400cc better then get a 900cc street twin/scrambler as my 2nd bike further down the road?

Ride to the grocery store - even lockdown doesn't prohibit that. Can't fit enough groceries into a rucksack? Go out again the next day, and buy some more groceries.

Just bought the 2019 version of this bike this weekend. Unfortunately, I won't actually get it until spring because we decided to let it sit with the dealer until spring for two reasons: No reason to try and drive it over winter here, and this way the dealer can set up a sweet payment deal over winter where there's the best chance of getting a good payment offer. Can't wait until spring though. It's an amazing bike. ^^

I love hoping on a great bike, and struggling to find something to not like about it. That being said I have ridden a bonny and it didnt really wet my whistle. Tho it was older, and a little crusty, so I do look forward to riding a newer one.

Great bike, it was my second choice but I got my first BMW R9T . And it’s a different bike like your sled, even more sporty it’s a beast. But also comfortable and very unique plus the quality is better than both. But I would still love to buy this as a second bike. Maybe one day.
