I own a '21 with the DSG and I'm watching this while I work...and dying because I want desperately to go drive it. Performance hint: she shifts quicker and more crisply if you turn off the ASR all the way. Plus you get a launch control mode. Like I said...dying...

I’m wondering how the 7 speed dsg is .. I’ve been driving manual transmission for 12+ years I’ve 3 different Honda Civic si generations but I’m looking to try something new. Also I have a bad back and stick shift is starting to become painful to drive everyday ... I need to test drive one of these

VW’s DSG is very good. I had one of their first iterations on my 2007 GTI and it’s only improved since then. Smooth in auto, responsive in manual 👍

It’s the next best thing to driving stick. The DSG has some properties of a manual you’ll recognize, like more direct engine breaking (and the occasional rough shift when the car is cold :) But the feeling overall is better connection to the car than a torque converted auto. The 7 speed wet clutch DSG moves slightly to the comfort side from the previous dry clutch 6-speed. But it’s a better overall transmission, with better programming, better fuel economy and reduced maintenance demand (80k service instead of 40k).

You'll like the DGS. I too have always driven manual transmission cars so I was worried about going to an automatic. However, the DSG can shift quicker that a person could with a manual, so it's pretty cool. Not as engaging, but the shifts (up or down) are instant.

It shouldn’t, because the transmission and throttle response would be about the same so it should consume the same amount of fuel.

Do you have to let go of the gas pedal when you shift? Does it even have a clutch? Never drove that kind of manual transmission...

No clutch to control with a DSG. The system operates automatically but can be driven in a manual mode (with shifts that still occur without needing to operate a clutch pedal).

Yes it does have 2 clutches its a dual clutch transmission
