I sat on one of these at a dealer, the amazing thing is its as light as a mountain bike. Feels 100lbs less than my old Ninja 250. Beginners these days are spoiled with bikes like this. Plenty of power for modern traffic and a decent amount of tech for the price. Makes me want to buy one of these 300s,even though I don't need one 😂

@jamesparker223 3 года назад
@@NMa-be8ru Dude. Amazing. I had to ride it 6 hours home from where I bought it over some country roads. It took me around.... 30 minutes? An hour? To finally start feeling comfortable. She sits at 130 (80 mph) very comfortably. It'll go up to 160 (100 mph) almost on accident. Top speed I've gotten to was 180 (111 mph). I feel like I could get a bit more out of it but I don't think it would hit 200. It's nimble. Quick. The whole bike just feels like a brand new luxury car. It shifts so perfectly I have never felt it before. Maybe it's just because it's such a new bike. I just took a 15 hour road trip with a backpack. I did 160 the whole way. The bike loved every second. Admittedly it does start to make you need to stretch. Your legs will be bent quite a bit and it becomes noticeable after an hour of riding. In town you'd never feel it. 350 km on one tank. Maybe more i never really pushed it down to the fuel light. But 15 dollars to fill up. 💪🤟 I absolutely can't stand being in cars now. Driving them or passenger. Motorcycles are so much better it's insane.

Versus the R3; The MT has no clip-on handles and the bar is set a tad higher (purposely) for a more upright , less full tuck position. Shorter gearing especially 1-2. Brakes don’t bite as much. Loves 7k+ RPM. the horn is in a strange place and takes getting used to. Yamaha reliability. Won’t break down or have high operation costs like a Duke. If Yamaha came out with a MT-05 they would be gaining a big following as well

The CB500F makes the same power, but needs less RPM to do so and makes a LOT more torque everywhere in the RPM range. Better for putting about the streets.
@gnashmelllow
@gnashmelllow 3 года назад
@william willie the weight is definitely a negative. But the stability of the larger tires on the CB500F is really nice, and the wave of low and mid range torque is also super beneficial, especially when loaded with camping gear! With that said, I do most of my kilometres motocamping on country roads and open highways, so I can definitely see the appeal of the lighter bike in traffic when commuting.

I love the MT-03! Had one of these two years ago, second hand, as a beginner bike becuase it was my first "vehicle" that I was learning a manual on and for newer riders who feel pressured to get a bigger bike becuase they are afraid that this thing is underpowered and won't be as fun as you get more experienced is absolutely false. There is something that is just so satisfying about banging gears in a smaller CC engine out and tossing it through the corners. Think about it like this, the Mazda Miata caters to a different audience then say a Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Save those pennies. It'll be worth it. Just about any of the 300 class bikes are a hoot around town with the twins (kawi/yamaha) being especially good in that they work decently well on the highway too. And being that so many people hold onto a bigger is better mentality you can find them second hand, but virtually new, for significantly less than the MSRP. The 300/400s i think are the ultimate commuter machines. 50-60mpg if your not totally beating on them, cheap long lasting tires, regular gas, super nimble in town. If you can get over the lack of outright acceleration they're super fun.

Soz man, I think the majority of us have been there at some point. That said, he's not wrong - it's just a fact that this bike is toward the lowest end of new motorcycle pricing in the US. BUT.. there's always used. This is not a new model; Yamaha have been making it a few years now, and fortunately new rider's penchant for buying brand new motorcycles for their first bike, justifying that they'll keep it forever means there's always be a crap load of beginner bikes barely ridden less than 3 years old to pick from.

The best part of this review was explaining how to activate the launch control. Actually, my first and only street bike was a Yamaha XS400SG. This is, of course, a better bike but that size bike can do nearly anything a big honker can do. I took my bike on camping trips, day trips, commute, dates, etc....It did everything quite well. I did get rid of the fake 'Harley' bars and went more of bend like is on this bike. Besides, that? It's a great size, especially newer riders. Its fast enough, it's light enough, and cheap enough to learn and have a ball while you're doing it.

@@Movieman1965 for beginner speed and power is enough..this bike is very forgiving..but as you become mature rider....it feels slow and boring. ...i dont want a bike that goes 400kmph...but 0-100 that attacks me more....thats why got my mt09....if you are starting from no experience than buy this bike.....or if you have very little experience with confident go for mt07....you will stick to that bike for very long time....thats my operation.....and replay me when....you buy this bike and sell it after 3-4 months....your reason😉

I've had mine since March ive put nearly 2000 mile on the bike and like it alot. It's a great commuter my hour trip to work. since I mostly baby it I get 67mpg on the highway. I threw the Achripovic slip on from the R3. I wish it was a bit bigger without adding more power. Overall its a great bike for what I do with it.

I would disagree that the r3 is for the track. It's a comfortable riding position and I much prefer the wind protection when going home from work late at night on the highway. Looks are subjective. I think the r3 and the white trim just looks way better

@@ansfida6624 I don't mind him, but it's not as good. I think the real problem is that Mototrend bought out both the guys as well as Spencer who did the production, so motorcyclist then had to try and re-create what they had with a different team. It's not just Adam, its him and the crew having to replicate someone else's format rather than doing something natural. That's what it feels like to me at least.

For those looking in the 300 naked/street category (15:30): Yamaha MT-03 Honda CB300R (some earlier CB300Fs still available). BMW G310R (I think he missed this one, even though BMW has 2 bikes in the 300 category) (IMO - Go with the one that feels right, fits right, and calls you. You can't go too wrong with any of the above three. They'll all give similar enough performance.) Also - Street Adventure 300s: BMW G310GS Kawasaki Verysys-X 300 Sport 300s Yamaha YZF-R3 Honda CBR300R (The KTM 390 Duke and 200 Duke sandwich the category. Zach also mentions the Kawasaki Z400 and Ninja 400. But 400s (and 500s) are really a different class - the next step up)

The problem with the Ninja 400 is the seating config. I found it uncomfortable immediately. MT03 first feel was great. If you want more horsepower you need to the 7-800 range. I have two and they still could use a bit more power. It's a game. The high rev small displacement Yamaha is the way to go for price and results.

Yeah, I have a Z400 and it still accelerates well on the highway up to 90mph(I haven't gone faster). They're only "bad" on the highway because you're at 8k rpm at 80 mph and getting pushed around by the wind because they're so light.

Zack’s weight may have something to do with it! At 6’4” he probably outweighs me by 30 lbs and my little R3 picks up speed faster than that especially if I down shift to fifth. But I second the comment in seat slope. I am constantly pushing myself back on the seat to preserve the goods which makes it hard to stay light on the bars. Probably my only complaint about the R3. One of these days I may invest in a custom seat.

I was never a fan of the slipper clutch on my Ninja300ABS. GREAT little bike, loads of fun! Just did not like the clutch and the horrid seat on it. Years later, demographics have changed, and once again thinking of a fun tiny runabout. I am 44, have been on motorized 2 wheels off and on since I was 8, have had everything from a 50cc scooter to a 1600cc Fat Bob, some "quicker" bikes like the SV650, big heavy touring bikes like my old Yamaha Royal Star Midnight venture 1300cc V4, quite a few dual sports, 2 adventure bikes, several large touring scooters, ( a reason I buy so often from Revzilla, I don't keep anything very long hahahaha!) and yet I always consistently have the most FUN on these silly little 250-400cc class "learner bikes" hahahaha! They are just so darn loveable!
