@@RealTimeFun It would depend. Some etudes I could do in a day, some would take weeks. I can't just sight read anything but I am a decent sighy reader. When I'm releasing a lot of etudes, I am often looking ahead a few etudes and practicing them simultaneously.

I’m thinking about taking a solo to state solo and ensemble, and this one sounds really nice and kinda fun. I like études, I just start hating them whenever I’m required to learn them. I don’t know why. So maybe if I just learn this on my own, I can take this étude as a solo. That’d be pretty cool. But also, I’m having trouble deciding if I should even do one at all. I made first chair wind ensemble in my band and fourth chair in regional band (even with the *worst* sight reading I have *ever* done), so I’m assuming I’m pretty good. I didn’t expect to get any of these things though, but my section leader from marching season says that my lack of confidence is my biggest problem. So, those chairs are definitely a reason to do a solo. Another reason to take a solo would be that it’s good practice. I *suck* at auditions, especially because of nerves, but I think it would also be because I don’t like being a stand alone player much, because it’s, well, nerve inducing. The more I do things like this, the better I get at doing them. That’s literally the whole point of practicing. Some cons to doing a solo: what if I mess up and seriously embarrass myself? No thank you. Also, another really big one, I’m already super busy. I’ve got school wind ensemble, regional band, school jazz band, a trombone trio ensemble that’s required to take for our school, and big band jazz. I had to not do winter guard because it would’ve taken too much time out of my already crazy schedule. Plus, I’m still a student in school. With all the advanced class so they give us a lot of work to do. Idk if I could fit in time for a solo as well. Plus, I’m only a freshman. I’ve got a couple more years to do it. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll start working on this etude now and take it as a solo next year. That’d be pretty neat.

@guojames9269
@guojames9269 2 года назад
Tip from just another student: just use more air, and push your diaphragm. Other than that, practice, try to push it as far as you can and sooner or later the high notes here are not a problem. Remember to use cooler air, think laser beam when playing high notes and you should be fine.

I'm having a mental breakdown. All region is in a week and I have finish learning both of these, I'm not a good player, and I admit I don't practice as much as I should. But I feel so discouraged because everyone in my section is good except me. I've always been 2nd to last, except now I'm not anymore but that's bc the girl doesn't practice at all. But even so I still suck and I can't play well like the others. I bet my band directors feel embarrassed bc of me.

High range most importantly takes patience. Beyond that, start with glissing scales where you are comfortable and keep trying to go higher.

However slowly is necessary to have the highest level of precision. That depends on the player. The important thing is to not practice mistakes.
