I don't buy them anymore unless there is something involving one of my favorite teams that has a neat design; like the recent San Antonio Spurs hat from New Era that commemorates their five championships.
I only collected the official on field MLB 5950 caps. I finally have satisfactorily completed my collection with quality hats on every team. Towards the end of 2021, I noticed a significant improvement in the quality consistency of caps which I’m very happy about. I had a few duds that were purchased online that had the New Era side patch glued on, and plenty of loose threads and fitted poorly. I decided to replace these once I found better models in person. Now I’m happy with my whole collection!
That side patch is like Cap kryptonite. Keep the clips coming, too much time In between. Have a great NY👍 BTW that NAT’s cap on the top shelf is perfectly shaped, couldn’t help myself.
Right on, thanks for the support... and oddly enough that Nats cap is actually a M-USA with no New Era flag either, I went through some retail stores in 2017 to find some of those. Happy New Year to you as well!
Doug, I have a question. I haven't watched you for long, so if you explained this in a previous video, I do not know as I type this comment. How did you get New Era to create a cap with your RU-vid channel profile picture on the front?
Hey Ethan - that's actually a cap that was done through Custom Lids... I've done it with them three separate times - one was a total miss due to the employee not being skilled on the in-store machine. The second one was done at another Lids location on a blank Navy cap and the store manager that day was way better on the machine setup. I’ve been looking into 47 brand. New Era is losing me, I think it’s absurd to pay over $40 for a baseball hat that cost them $5 to make….I can’t believe the demand is there with these high prices
Not only that, the way their fitted hats are put together is ridiculous. You could have a 7 1/2 that is two sizes too small or two sizes too big. I had that happen to me recently. Unless they have something really neat with one of my teams, I stay away from their fitted hats. I go elsewhere for those.
Yes, I actually think that 47 is doing some really good things lately, especially with the MVP caps and some of their Captain caps, even if they are both adjustable models.
Even though I LOVE hats, I was very annoyed with a lot of what I saw in 2021 and even in 2020. I found so many of the design choices to be awful and a waste of good material. Some of the choices, like the MLB Mother's Day collection, were really bad. I couldn't believe some thought that collection would sell well. It's almost as if they're green-lighting every design idea coming their way in the hopes of out-competing the other companies. Perhaps it's also a means of trying to make up for some lost sales in 2020 and early 2021? Whatever the reason may be, I want these companies to slow down, quit bringing so many collections out, and the be more thorough on what they are going to produce since so many of the recent collections have been ugly.
On the topic of many 2021 collections being really ugly, I didn't even bother mentioning bad collections such as MLB Shapes, MLB Split Front, or NBA Two-Tone Hoops, to name just a few.
just started my collection is Lids good? Do they sell “fake new era” or do I shop on new era for fitted hats .. I’m new to the hat Game lol …and what am I looking for am I looking for the new era sign or can I buy any hat that has new era sign please help ?

Custom caps just aren't my cup of tea and as far as side patches the felt era are my preferred my most recent are 2018 World Series/Postseason of late I've been catching up on my MiLB cap and jersey collection
For anyone like me with a "long oval" head shape, we might not realize the benefits of the extra two directions... but it's still a good suggestion for a video, and I will plan to take a look at one of those sometime soon, thanks.
Hyper-consumerism has been kicked into overdrive with these cheap Chinese poly side patch fitteds. Ill stick to picking up vintage gems on eBay. Side patch killed the retro on fields.
