Happy Birthday for me! (November 9)
This special video is about a rather unusual elevator that you might have never seen before.
Finally got the chance to see these unique and interesting elevators, thanks to Heritage Elevators, PostTower and FynnLasseKiel who have all filmed these before. Yes you see them, these are elevators that are shaped like Coca Cola cans!
According to Schindler's old website in Wayback Machine, these are Schindler 800 PanoramaLine, which is a model of custom built elevators that can be designed based on clients requests to look like "moving advertisements". These elevators are so iconic that they were even featured on the old website! While the exterior looks rather attractive, the same thing cannot be said on the interior. You can clearly see that the inside are...just plain and a bit run down. It would've been nice if the management could refurbish the interior to make these elevators look more nicer. The fixtures are generic made by Kronenberg, with vandal resistant buttons which fit well considering the upper floors are parking garages. Overall these are definitely worth to try if you ever visit Kiel! The building is just across the port and sits right behind the train station (hauptbahnhof); it's even directly connected with the station on the 2nd floor.
