Have you seen the stirring will they're using for the NordHaven 475 It seems to be more esthetically pleasing then the steering wheel that came with the N 43 and the N 47

Thanks for your great video. Given me confidence it is perfectly possible to self manage N47! I’ll catch up with your site and past voyages…especially keen to see if you ventured into the Scillies.

Ah! I just left a comment on one of your other video's complimenting you on the lack of daft music. Checked out the rest of your video's, and yep, you guessed it. Ruined by daft needless music. It adds nothing and ruins everything. One question is how you managed at night. Did you and your wife split the watch so you could get some sleep ?
@Bloater
@Bloater 2 года назад
Hi, regarding the overnight watch situation - we have a rule… since this is supposed to be a pleasure cruise we limit our journeys so that we only skip one night’s sleep. That way if necessary we can go the distance without actually sleeping. In reality one of us goes and has a lie down but I just can’t sleep and I just get some rest for the eyes. Cruising around the UK coastline there really is not any need to go more than 2 days and 1 night between marinas. Music on these videos is the norm unfortunately. Some of the footage either has no sound (the Timelapse stuff) or has so much wind noise that it needs to be muted. The ‘daft’ music is royalty free due to RU-vid’s copyright policy and who gives away free stuff that’s any good? Many thanks for the comments that you have left.

You are so lucky to have such a stunning vessel. Being from Penarth I always enjoy sailing down south and seeing the difference in the water quality as you pass Porlock 🤣

I didn't realize how far North Great Britain is on the map map and it's the Labrador current in the jet stream that keeps your climate tolerable

One of the ways to illustrate the motion of the sea on video is to take a plastic club that's clear fill it with some water is with some water and food coloring and set it on my flat surface on the boat and then people could see the water pitching back-and-forth in the glass and then Lett's know how much the boat is moving a friend of mine filmed on the Queen Mary too and they hit rough seas And he illustrated that with a clear plastic cup filled with some water about halfway full and a little bit of food coloring from the galley and Lee and it really did wonders and letting people help know how much the ship was pitching them rolling

I e had my 33 fishing trawler out in much much worse than that, you are very very safe in that Nordhavn.

Great video. It's so refreshing to see them being used at sea, rather than 'toured'! Thanks for sharing your journey.

Marriage savers are fine till wife forgets she's wearing them and screams at a load of paddle boarders paddling and chatting over the entrance to their berth as husband attempts to dock a 55' boat. Marriage still ok.

Very nice. Well done. That first bit was a bit rough. Chop created by wind, current and a bit of swell is usually the roughest. I usually have a bucket tied around me neck in weather like that.

Just come across your videos great for me as I’m looking to do very similar trip this summer in my Rodman 😊 Do you recommend booking marinas in advance ?
@Bloater
@Bloater 2 года назад
Unfortunately you cannot book many marinas in advance it seems. They were all operating on the principle that they will sort you out when you get there. Also most marinas don’t allow rafting up. The reasoning given not to to reserve spaces when it is busy is that you may not turn up - and they may loose business. It seems to be first come, first served. It was quite an eye opener for us, perhaps it won’t be as bad when the UK isn’t ‘staycationing’ any more

Another great video. Night passages in area where there are pots can be a PITA. Do you have rope cutters on the shaft? Great fuel consumption figures. What water speed its does she make at 11.8/lph fuel burn? Displacement cruising at its best.
@Bloater
@Bloater 2 года назад
Hi, yes we have a rope cutter on the main shaft. They are not foolproof though. A fuel burn of 11.8lph would typically give us a through the water speed of a little over 6 knots. That would be with a clean bottom.
@oceanfroggie

@@Bloater Yes but rope cutter gives some peace of mind, hopefully ability to limb to safe harbour. We're pondering the switch from power to sail, interesting you came the other direction at some stage. Lovely boat, looks a home from home with the chill out space for extended cruising. Your wife seems as patient as mine is. Love this enjoyable series of videos.

interesting video, how much fuel did you use?
@Bloater
@Bloater 2 года назад
I don’t have the data for this specific leg of the journey but we were burning between 10 litres and 15 litres per hour. Over the whole 750nm cruise we used a total of 1500 litres of diesel. Generator usage was minimal. Due to the fact that we fill up with cheap fuel in Guernsey it works out at very nearly £1 for every nautical mile. I can live with that.
