Was I too mean to the Multistrada? Ducati probably won’t like this video but I felt it was important to not sugarcoat how I felt about riding this bike 👍🏻

I appreciate the honesty. My take differs from yours when I tested it this past Monday but I am their demographic and I ride a Multi now. This segment is niche and either you love it, or it is a major "meh" of emotion. Either way, an honest reaction is always better than pure marketing. Good luck getting another Duc after this :)

@@Bizmonger I found the new Pikes Peak to feel ever so slightly more sporty in the corners. But you sacrifice the adaptive SkyHook suspension for the Olins sport version on a bike already limited on its sportiness due to its design. I see no reason for the Pikes Peak. Perhaps if they bumped the HP up closer to 200 on the Pikes Peak, maybe then.

Probably the best, most innovative, motorcycle so far in 2021. The fuel consumption is bad, but what can you expect from a v-four with 170 hp. The rest is just top notch « appliances ». So, of course it’s expensive. I love this bike.

When your 50 years old. You might change your mind about a bike like this. I felt the same way. I would rather be uncomfortable and ride something fun. Now that I'm older. My hands, wrist, and back get sore after 10 mins on a sports bike. A bike like this can be more enjoyable. Even if it's not as fast at the track.

A lot of how bikers think is relative to our age. I love bike sport touring bikes but find my riding position isn't great on one of those any longer (at 69 years old). My old beloved Katana may have to go before long in favor of an adventure bike. I think I'm even beyond the age where a Goldwing would be a good idea.

Papa Yams review is nice and honest, but the only thing I can take from it is that Yam isn’t into expensive sport touring adventure bikes, or whatever you want to call a BMW GS, KTM Adventure, Tiger 1200, etc. This sort of bike is exactly what someone wants who only wants to have one bike, for sporty long distance travel.

I bought a 2020 1260 last year. My first MTS. I came from sport bikes. 1) the skyhook suspension is amazing. Unless you’ve pushed it hard you won’t understand how awesome it is 2) insanely powerful, Vtwin has super linear power. 160hp/90flbs torque is more than any of my 600cc sport bikes and it shows 3) incredible handling, I can easily keep up with my sport bike buddies in the mountains (haven’t taken it to the track and probably won’t) 4) comfort, heated grips, great seat, aggressive riding position I’m in love. I honestly wont buy another street bike that isn’t an MTS. Now for the track, I can’t wait to get another 675 ;)

I’ve had a 2018 Multi 1260S for 4 years. It transformed me from a 690 Duke noob to shredding it on Laguna Seca. I get how the 19 inch wheel version is trying to do to many things, but a focused version, like the Pikes Peak, is a force to reckon with. I’ve owned 26 motorcycles, nothing makes me feel like king of the road like the Multi….

Ok. So you want more “Sole and discomfort”. Than turn off the traction control, turn off the wheelie control, turn off the abs, turn off the heated grips and seat, turn off your cardio headset playing music, and ride the bike “raw”. I understand what you are trying to get at but it seems insane to bash a bike for being too well kitted out....especially when you literally have the option to disable all of those fancy add-ons.

I'd like to see your take on the older Pikes peak models (specifically the 1200). Shorter wheelbase so much more wheelie happy, the 1200 or 1260DVT engines had a lot more character IMO, and the Pikes Peak came with Ohlins front and back. I think you would like them much more, the new V4s IMO is Ducati going after the R1200GS ADV market instead of confidently existing in the sport touring the way the old multi did.

I have the 2018 MS Enduro Pro. It is a rocket ship that can also drift fire roads. It is an absolutely amazing bike. Your shredding this bike just tells me this bike is beyond your current riding abilities- and not trying to be rude. But you shouldn’t buy or review this bike if you don’t feel comfortable riding it the way it was designed to be ridden. If you are not a highly capable dirt rider, why ride a 500 lb 150+ HP bike off road? If you don’t feel comfortable ripping mountain roads on the bike - fine; it’s not for you. But his bike set records on Pikes Peak, you can take it on pretty serious off road trips and split lanes like I do in CA - it’s an amazing bike. Disappointed you don’t get it, but it’s clearly just not for you. It’s not for everyone. That’s another reason to like it.

All of you multi simps are really having trouble understanding what it is that I said in this video. I have the previous gen 1260s and have to say it's absolutely phenomenal for road riding, sporty riding in the twisties and smashing big miles. Wouldn't take it anywhere need dirt trails , there are specific bikes for that and I don't think there will ever genuinely be a bike you would want to do every riding scenario on. The multistrada however for me really is a 5 start bike for performance and tech

Bought my 950S precisely and only for doing off-town trips with my wife. Still can't let go of my Monster which I hold on for a solo city commute and fun. I personally have not had a chance to ride this multi but i would say Yammie is probably right. Since they started with the dual plug and VVT motors to try and make them smoother and removed the Ohlins and replaced it with skyhook they really removed a lot of the soul from the bike in the process. They essentially took probably the most exciting motorcycle in the ADV segment and made it into an expensive Honda and they started down this path in 2014. Looks like they finally finished the job. I used to own a 2011 Multi 1200 and that thing was basically a sportbike on stilts. It handled really well with great road feel, the motor was practically feral with a nice kick in the balls of torque at 6k and the ride was the furthest thing from plush. It was pleasantly unrefined overall. The things that Yemmie said about Urban and Enduro mode rung equally true with that bike as it did with the one he rode. Terrible commuter and forget about it "off road".

The old one is a super fun giant twin that does surprisingly well in the corners and off road. The V4 version felt like the most vanilla adv bike I’d ever ridden - all the character sucked right out of it. I’ll stick to my old, far more fun, friend. Thats why I think the 17" front version next year, more in line with the original MS, is a better idea. Make it a little more road biased. Strada means road. 17" works fine on gravel roads with the right tyres. No point trying to make a 240 kg motorcycle work as an true offroader.

The "Ducati Cardinal". Interesting name for a long distance ADV bike; Ducati's marketing should have jumped on that.

For those interested in this bike, your review was useless. Why not compare it to a R1250GS instead? Afterall, this is what all Adventure bikes are compared to. Many potential buyers seek a bike which can be used for long trips, while offering other ingredients such as reasonable (not Superbike level) performance and off-road capabilities, if needed. I owned a 2013 1200 Multi for 7 years. It was the only bike I could have at the time. It was a competent weapon along the Hudson Valley corridor and provided immense satisfaction to me. I’m sure the V4 is better in most ways but you simply overlooked what this segment can offer. Now, not everyone wants an adventure bike with this level of sophistication and performance (and cost). Lastly, I have seen many of your reviews and most are fair - especially if you gel with the segment. If you just can’t get your head around what a bike represents, don’t bother with it.

Jack of all trades and master of none sums up this bike up perfectly. I rode it and I hated it for all the reasons given here but in addition it’s a mechanical cacophonous mess of a motorcycle at anything less than highway speeds pumping out enormous heat and consuming far too much fuel I agree if this bike appeals to you just get in the car and give up motorcycling period. And shame on all the sycophant motorcycling journalists who have raved about this bike is being the epitome of the motorcycling art.

Great opinion piece, totally at odds with most reviews, it's an amazing bike if you're in your 50's & got a bit of money to spend on your toys. I used to own a Bimota Dieci in my youth, doing 100 miles was akin to some sort of medieval torture but I loved that bike. Getting cold & aching like a bastard are clearly things that YN enjoys as part of the experience, give him 20 years & he'll beg for a Multistrada.

The thing is that among large ADV bikes this and GS are the two cherrys most would pick now. And compared to GS it attracts a different population. When a comfortable ride is needed with buddies to the wilderness one would take this in style. Maybe you can chase some noobs on the track but it would feel out of place there, as most of the ADVs. So compare it to other ADVs not other types of bikes. I can assure you most of the MS 4s owners would have another fun bike too. I myself feel that it is a better bike than the previous multi. But I like those two cylinder machines, so stayed with it :D Relax. Greetings !

I ride a 2010 Transalp 700 and one of my riding buddies has a 2015 Multistrada. The last time we went for a ride, we spent a whole hour adjusting all the electronic gizmos and when we hit the dirt, my humble TA was outperforming the Multi in every aspect. So in conclusion - no, thanks, I will stick with my old uninspiring TA700.
