I like this very nice do they make any trailers 30 feet or under like this? What about grand design? I like the cougars a lot. Are there any trailers that have just colonial medium or light brown wood work with the island or corner sink I loved that in my last keystone. That's a heckuva front pass through! It's notably used as a make shift shelter on camping day 17 when you get kicked out of the main rig for who knows what, but probably 'reasons'. Surprising they didn't mount the master switch at the top tho, one wrong move with a folding chair or knee board and 'TINK', you're done. Do not go past go, do not collect $200. I'd install a lil aluminum box around it

Guess I’m just old school but for our camping 1-3 months at a time state parks and boondocking I love the pantry and 2 way fridge. I don’t mind making sure to level the camper. We’d do that anyway for comfort. I need the pantry space more than the additional cold storage and appreciate the option of propane. I worry about battery power now and don’t need another draw on the battery while off grid. Love your channel!

As someone who has spent more time boondocking than not, I totally agree with your assessment! @@stevez340 That was additionally my assessment as well until we actually got our hands on these things and did some in-house testing. Josh, based on my decades of experience with RV batteries, I still prefer the 2 way fridge for superior boon-docking capability, but 2 way fridges are not recommended for temperatures below 25 degrees, let alone 0 degree use? According to Dometic, a major supplier of absorption refrigerators to the RV industry, in temperatures below 25 degrees Fahrenheit, the refrigerant may get so cold that it can begin to “gel up and not flow through the coils as intended.” Heat applied to the gelled refrigerant will be uneven (much like when running in an unlevel condition) and can solidify, damaging the cooling unit. As a result, the company advises customers not to use the refrigerator when it’s below 25 degrees outside, let alone in subzero temperatures.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 года назад
TY for bringing this up. I am aware of Dometic's recommendations. I'm also aware brands like Keystone and Jayco who cold-test their RVs factor Fridge operation into that equation.

So happy to see you review this one; it's very poorly covered online. (The primary walkthrough is a Jayco video, with the host having to continually prod the product manager, who appears to keep forgetting key features.) Most critically, as I've noted previously, I love the inclusion of the shots with the slides in. I only know of one other "reviewer" (also a dealer) who does that. Based on the floor plans, I had believed the refrigerator and dining area were accessible. Bummer that they're not, because that's a must have on my list, and I thought this would have been a potential alternative to a FW. (I'd consider one with an outside kitchen, too, like the 280RSOK you reviewed, but I'm licensed in CA, and once a travel trailer passes 10,000 lbs GVWR, I'm required to have a non-commerical class A endorsement, which is a huge pain. This looked like the lone TT option with a W/D option under 10,000 lbs. So, back to a FW focus.)

Why did Jayco stop putting rear bumpers on their campers?
@JoshtheRVNerd

They largely followed suit of many other builders who were already doing it by swapping the bumper for a rear receiver hitch that was rated for more weight which allows for more accessory options

I prefer lots of windows that open for cross breeze. We had duo pane windows in our bounder and I hated them because I couldn't clean them well enough. Lol Like so many things about this trailer, the location of the outside speakers, the stone-guard floored pass thru storage, the gorgeous interior features and colour choices. I’d have to have a king bed, everything is just beautiful in this unit. AND, I was very pleasantly surprised (I wasn’t even thinking about it) to hear you mention the makeup mirror. You handled it very well. 😉 Oh, and I’m also happy that it’s 0 and 100 degree capable. I love the tires and those rimmmmmmss!! 😯 and 4-star handling package. I’m wondering, how far out does the awning extend since there’s a slide on the same side? And, I would probably solar equip it. :-) #TeamHaylett - my choice is the 10 Cu ft fridge as you mentioned, it will allow for pantry space. Question, has this trailer been ordered by a customer?

Noting your comment about the expense of the double door fridge, I'm leaning toward the 12v 10 cu ft version. How much solar would you need, roughly, to keep the needs of this type of fridge happy. Depends a bit on how long you plan to dry camp. A 100w package + 1 common battery can last a bit over two weeks according to Furrion testing. If you had the factory 190w package and added a 2nd battery (or a lithium), then you'd have to really REALLY push it

@@JoshtheRVNerd Was planning on 2 Battle Born Lithiums and approx. 380 watts of panels. Thanks for the info. 2 questions: Do you know what guage wire Jayco pre-wires for solar with? Cant seem to get a straight answer elsewhere. Also, does Jayco use square wooden dowels inside the aluminum tubes of the framing? I know Grand Design does it to help stop steel screws from working their way out of the soft aluminum over time during travel . The wood gives the screw more to bite into. Wish you guys were here in Central Oregon. Checked our local Jayco dealer. Not that knowledgeable. Best advantage buying here is no sales tax. The only upgrade to your awesome presentations I would like to see ( I think my wife and have seen them all) is info on stinky-slinky storage on each unit. Since some units dont have bumper storage it leaves a special tube or..? Not a glamorous topic, just a fact of life on the road. Your videography skills and audio quality are awesome. Thanks.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 года назад
@@jimsimpson1060 I know these pretty well, but do not know them down the gauge of wiring by brand. We can certainly get answers for you on that of course :) Jayco has been stuffing their aluminum structure with wooden fill at bolt/screw/stress points for about as long as lamination has Existed. Rockwood is well known for doing the same (you can actually see it under their beds sometimes). So you know -- as an Oregon resident if you have no sales tax on a local purchase, then that stays the same here. Taxes are based on your residency. So that evens out both ways.

I wish that more manufacturers would offer twin bed configurations. This floorplan would work well as a twin bed since it doesn't have any slide outs or door openings in the bedroom. Airstream offers a twin bed option in nearly all of their floorplans, and I understand that it makes up a meaningful portion of their business. Once you see one in person you're left wondering why others don't offer the option! Let's face it, the person you're traveling with isn't always the person you want in your bed, which means someone is left on the couch. And even if you're traveling with your sweetie, you often have to contend with sleep apnea or hot flashes or restless leg syndrome. Not to mention that when you move the twin beds to the outside wall you DOUBLE the usable walking space with a wide aisle down the middle. There are so many good reasons to offer a twin bed set up!
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 года назад
It's an idea that basically stopped being requested for a while, but has recently regained popularity. It's difficult for larger volume brands like this to juggle variant cabinet/bed best configurations to allow for the twin concept. I'm sure SOMEONE will do it.

You mention/show the Goodyear tires, awesome, but not the type of suspension. In many videos the camera pans past the tires revealing the type of suspension. Hi Uncle Josh 😉, My husband and I love this unit with the Craftsman interior design. You give so much information in your videos which helps us make a decently educated decision as soon to be first time RV owners. You mentioned this unit had a 22" oven, is that internally? No one ever mentions if a 9X13 dish or cookie sheet pan (11 X17) would fit inside. Are there 2 shelves? Are there different size options for the microwave? What are the internal measurements? I cannot find any information on this and find it very frustrating. We had previously rented a RV and a standard dinner plate would not fit in the microwave. Your help is greatly appreciated and I wish you well.
@JoshtheRVNerd

I believe that is an exterior measurement. Certainly smaller inside. Our team could get that hard-measured for you in return for a shot at working with you when you're ready of course.

@@JoshtheRVNerd Of course we would love to work with you and your team. We have been watching your videos for over a year and have been better educated for them. We are looking for a RV within the next year and would be willing to drive from San Diego if you can make it worth our while😊. What are the dementions of the A arm where the hitch connects near the propane tanks? What is the size of the hitch ball needed? We have an F-250 Super Duty truck and are planning to purchase all necessary accoutrements for hauling an RV.

I can respect that. I asked about that & learned they were unable to source a reasonably sized awning for in front of the slide that didnt conflict with baggage doors/windows. So they needed to go with the one giant awning At least it's like a "free" slide awning :)

@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 года назад
I need to make a video on this I think... "SHOULD" you do it? Well.. different states have a difference of opinion on it. SOME Say it's fine -- just shut it off at a gas station or in a tunnel/ferry/etc. SOME say "nope. Illegal and unsafe." Have I done it? Yes. Have I ever had problems with it? No. Do I recommend it? I don't think it's the best idea, but I don't think it's the worst. I know you can look around and find a picture or two of an RV that burned up in transit presumably from this feature being in use, but frankly there are FAR more instances of RVs going off the road from improper hitching or being hooked up to underrated towing vehicles So While I don't think it's the SMARTEST thing you can do...it's far from the dumbest. Consider the history of all the years of RVs out there and the limited number of in-transit-fire-cases... it's the absolute minority But... I don't like anybody taking any unnecessary risks. That's part of the reason we have made such a dramatic shift to 12v fridges wherever possible. It simply takes the discussion out of the equation entirely.

As always, excellent tour. Comparing and contrasting to Whitehawk, Eagle seems to lack in some exterior features and tech such as axel placement and auto leveling. The focus appears more on interior features and quality finishes. She looks like the queen of the park and likely staying away from the primitive BLM sites.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 года назад
I'm curious as to how you drew those views because Eagle is the next step up from White Hawk. An Eagle HT is quite literally best thought as a "White Hawk+" It does everything a White Hawk does, and then goes beyond.
@mbwheeler70
@mbwheeler70 3 года назад
@@JoshtheRVNerd The eagle axles are closer together and it looks like you had manual crank stabilizers on the eagle. I have seen a few white hawks and they either had power stabilizers or the one touch level. Not sure if that standard or just was on the ones I saw. On the inside of the eagle is as you say a white hawk plus with all of its more luxurious features.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 года назад
@@mbwheeler70 White Hawk does use a wide stance axle system because it's designed to be more mobile. Eagles are larger/heavier & tend to be towed less. They are each custom tailored that way The differences in jacks you're seeing have nothing to do with "White Hawk vs. Eagle," but rather just the optional equipment that happened to be on the RVs you bumped into

Josh, thank you for mentioning that you would recommend a 3/4 ton for towing a trailer this size. It’s really scary seeing some yahoo towing a 35’ long or longer travel trailer with a 1/2 ton. All you have to do is search for “towing fail” on YT and see plenty of examples. I know some people will talk all day long about pulling a 38’ 11000 lb bumper pull with their half ton f150 and never having a problem. But I think it’s a risk not worth taking. And plus, it’s justification to the wife for buying a 3/4!!
